    Welcome all newbees!

    kitterbabes Hello!

I have seen some postings with penpal in them. You can use the search feature ( small magnafying glass on the where to send page ) and just enter penpal. I found eleven names from the search. Read through them and see if any will work for you.

    Blessings, door

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hello!

My name is Madeline and I'm in Homestead, FL right down the street from the Air Force Base. I constantly see guys and gals in uniform and love the Any Soldier idea. I have sent a couple of letters and have a fresh stack right next to me ready to go. I have to admit, the idea at first is kind of strange but now I've kind of convinced myself it's like sending messages in a bottle-- you never know who'll receive them!

Quick facts about me. I'm a wife and mother to three children- almost 5 year old boy, newly turned 2 year old girl, and my 4 week old baby boy that I am on maternity leave with.

I have browsed these forums many times and have found many answers to my questions here so I thought I'd pop in and not only say Hi, but THANK YOU!

    - Madeline

Writing letters to help brighten someone's day is a fabulous idea... From our end, it's more like sending a message in a bottle.  There may or may not be a response, but you can be sure that someone will read what you wrote and possibly many someones.

This is a GREAT way to explain it.

Welcome to all the new "faces" - and Happy Independence Day!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hi! I'm a 61 year old(young) mother of three from Tampa, Fl. I recently read an article about anysoldier.com in the Tampa Tribune, talking about the need for women's products for female soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. And after reading hundreds of contact letters, I realize just how naive I am when thinking that the Services are really taking care of all our soldiers. True it's a war zone but there are somethings our soldiers shouldn't have to ask us for - sheets, pillows, coffee, fem. hygiene products, socks, batteries - I could go on as you well know. I'm privileged to be able to send some help, goodies and thanks their way - and am telling everyone I know.   - rivermom

Welcome rivermom and thank you for being here to help out our troops. I totally agree they shouldn't have to need for anything but the reality they do. Thanks again for helping these soldiers out. I am a proud junkie supporter to all the troops!!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Welcome aboard, Rivermom!  It amazes me as well that they don't get "necessities", but what boggles my mind the most is not feeding these young people (usually bottomless-pit still-growing boys) enough to sustain them hence the request for good protein food and other good things to eat as well as just cookies, popcorn and other "snacks".  What was truly amazing though is that there wasn't adequate supplies for our "recovering warriors" who were hospitalized.  You can see that if you look for the thread under CSM Jerry Callaghan.  Anyway, if we can be any help just ask.  Thanks for joining the support.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Thanks for the welcome Candygirl and Debbie - my spare bedroom is full of things to send - just waiting for the boxes from USPS to arrive and then I'll figure out how to fill them. Any tips on how best to pack the standard 12x12x5 1/2 boxes? Just how cushy does the protection need to be assuming no glass etc.?

    Thanks again,

    Rivermom - Jean

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Are we at the page limit yet? :P

M'name's sharky. I've sent one package of general care stuff, and today sent off a book and some snacks to the soldier I've been writing. I find it intimidating (just like everyone else, I guess) just to see how many people need things. Tomorrow I'm hoping to send off some comics, since I've largely lost interest in my collection.

The post office has been helpful to me so far--today's worker asked if it was to my boyfriend (funnier if you're me, since I'm gay) and then said she would have liked to send something, but has no soldier's names. So I told her about the site and now wish I'd given her the address I was carrying. There were a lot of people in line behind me and I'd taken up some time figuring out the customs form thing, so I was a bit flustered.

Also I've only just now realized we don't have to request the soldier's address anew every day we send a package or a letter, we just check to see if they've moved. >.> Yeah, use small words talking to me, please.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Welcome sharky!  Awesome that you are sending comics over. Don't know how familar you are with the site, but if you type comics or comic book in search it will bring up contacts for you that have an interest

*****So I told her about the site and now wish I'd given her the address I was carrying.****

A word of caution, as a safeguard it is an AS policy that we don't share addresses....so good that you told her about the site, then she can request an address for herself.  You'll get the hang of it real soon and then be as addicted as the rest of us!!..
