Carmela, welcome to AnySoldier---lots of us showed up here the same way. Getting mad that our heroes are over there in need of some love from home, and we just had to do something about it! We all leave our politics at the door in order to serve them, and that's just what they need, for us to support them no matter what we think of the politics of it all. Bless you for stepping up! As for how to find one in greatest need of some mail - some more experienced people might be able to tell you some keywords to search for, but from what I hear there are people in a majority of the units who really need mail from home. So anyone you pick from the list would be great! Try sorting the list by how many times their address has been requested, and pick a low number, those would have gotten the fewest packages so far. The contacts listed all share the mail with those who get little or none, so your package should be able to achieve what your heart wants to do!

Hi Carmela! Welcome! If you go to the Where to Send Page, there is a search function. It's a magnifying glass. Click on that. When the search page comes up, you can write anything you'de like to support in the "Requests or email information" box and it will find contacts for that. For example, if you have a bunch of motorcycle magazines, you can type in motorcycle and I bet someone comes up. (I didn't try that one :) I just typed in "don't get mail" and a half a dozen contacts came up that have something about soldiers that don't get mail. Try that! Sandy right though, most units will have someone if you just read the posts and one stands out for ya.
And what a great thing you are doing! I always ask in my first letter to be "assigned" a guy that doesn't get much support from home too :) Gotta make sure they know we care about em all!!
Happy packing.. Shelly

Hey, Carmela, welcome!
Go to: http://forum.anysoldier.com/forums/t/3940.aspx?PageIndex=24 Look through through that list, then look some of those troops up on the AS site. I'll bet someone will tug at your heartstrings and you'll know just where to send your box! Susie :)

Hello Carmela, welcome to the forum and site! We are really glad to have you. Its true most anyone you pick on this site will be someone in need who doesnt get much mail. Therefore, you are good to choose pretty much anyone! You can also look in the forum section Where to send, special contact request, Over looked contacts - 2008 edition. In that section of the forum are names of people who are at the moment not getting an especially lot of mail, but we will fix that wont we! They wont go forgotten or unloved as there is plenty to go around here! I myself know I would request every contact I in need if I could, I just dont have the money to support alllll of them. So I choose the ones special to me. Good luck in finding someone special to you! I know you will! (And even if its not packages your sending, they really love to get letters from home! :] )

Mary,
Welcome. I am new to the site myself. My son, Sgt. Turner was in Iraq 2 years ago on his first tour. He was in vehicles that were hit by IED's 8 different times and by the grace of God only suffered minor injuries. He is now in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan. We all have our difficulties in life to overcome, but because our service men and women protecting our way of life everyday, we have the opportunity to make the best of what we have. I know that I filter out a lot of the "little stuff" (someone said "it's all little stuff") that irritates me on a daily basis because I know that thousands of Americans are doing all they can under very difficult circumstances in places like the Korengal, Baghdad, Balad, Baquba, Falujah and all the other places that good Amricans are doing their duty. So, thank you for all you are doing. It does make a difference and we all live in a better world because of you.

Hi Sharon
Welcome, Welcome!
I am a newbie also and wanted to help. I found the AS website and started reading about those that rec'd no mail and the way I like to talk I can put it down on paper and make sure that someone gets something in the mail. They may not know me from Adam but that's OK. All my friends started out not knowing me.

I am Mike Cox , I am from Kirkwood Missouri. I am 61 years old. In the next few days I will start out on the last leg of an 850 mile walk to support our military, veterans , the USO and the Fisher House. I invite you all to visit my site, 850miles.com , please feel free to contact Me. I enjoy having people join me on this walk. Join me for even a mile or 2. I will complete the walk in mid August - late August.
I have been in contact with many support groups. My only concern is that since things seem to have settled down in Iraq that we do not waiver in our effort to continualy support our troops and improve the treatment of our veterans.
I am glad to be a member of this group. I hope you feel I can contribute.

I have a question, do walks like this happen in South Florida? I mean I know it's a long walk from Florida and whatnot but maybe some type of local thing going on?
