    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Welcome Christine.

You have certainly come to the right place to write to the troops.  THAT is their number one request -- letters from home.

You mnetioned that you are vision impaired.  If you don't mind saying,  do you use a special program to read your computer / emails?  Or do you need large type?    What, if anything, can we do to make it easier for your to use this Forum?

THANK YOU for being willing to support our troops.  It is good to hear that Guidepost mentined this most important ministry to our fellow Americans.

    Let us hear from you!

    Have a blessed day!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

I don't use any screen readers, or magnifying programs for my computer.

I am able to see the print so far because I have the computer screen up close to where I can see everything. I also like to use sign language. I am in a deaf ministry in the town I live in. A group of people get together and learn worship songs in sign then we go to different churchs around my state and put on like a little play to teach hearing people that deaf people CAN worship and get to know our Lord just like hearing people can. I am hearing impard but can hear pretty good still. The only trouble I have is high frequency noises for example crickets chirping or stuff like that.

Welcome Christine to this great forum. I am sorry I am a little late in welcoming you as my computer is acting up. Just know there are a lot of great people that are here for the same reason you are. So we are happy to have more join us.

Look forward to getting to know you.

BEWARE ALL THESE SCHOOL PEOPLE!  LOL Stick out tongueCryingConfused

I worked for over 31 years with our State Dept of Ed... so we all have a connection...

I retired and became a substitute and then teaching at evening high school...   AH SCHOOL DAYS!

Christine, when I worked for the State, I was with the Division of Rehabilitation Services and we always were assisting individuals with all types of disabilities  which was why I knew to ask how your read your computer! LOL.  I also learned sign-language since for a number of years I was in the Recreation Dept of the local Rehabilitation Center!  FUN FUN FUN!

And isn't it interesting that we are all now connected through AS!  Small world, ain't it!?!

So glad we've all crossed paths.

    Have a terrific day, y'all.

    Take care,

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hello, my name is kathy and I live in New Jersey.  I recently learned of Any Soldier.com from the US Postal Service.  My son is an Army Ranger (not currently deployed).  I had called the Postal Service to request a Carekit for a co-worker whose son is a Marine and will be deployed soon.  After learning about this site I got the idea that I would start collecting items for our soldiers that we can send for the holidays.  I work in a Jr. Sr. High School and I am certain the students will be glad to help.  I look forward to learning more about the soldiers and what they request..

    Sincerely,

    Kathy

Welcome kathy to AS forum. We are happy to have you join right in. I also work with high school and elemenatry school kids. They all love to write. Have some postcards or blank cards that your students write a note and send them to your friends son and that will be a lot of fun!!

Thanks for helping out our toops. look forward to getting to know you through this forum.

    Hi!

My name's Shannon. I'm a single mom to one amazing son! I am a truck driver and work at the farmers markets in the summer and a bakery in the winter.

I found anysoldier about a month ago. I adopted one soldier, then a second after reading the overlooked contacts list. My son also sends him and his group packages with a portion of his paycheck from his part time job. Sure wish I could adopt them all! We try to get one box a week sent out to each of them. I have 4 to go this week though. They keep multiplying! I have posted on the local freecycle network and recieved many beanie babies, books, magazines and some DVD's and CD's to send so far. I've also printed out the house raffle flyers and put them on bulletin boards at all the truck stops, shippers & recievers that will allow me to, as well as any local bulletin boards. Even taped one in my car window. I'll be buying my ticket in a couple of weeks Smile Just need to shop a little less .

I've learned so much already from reading the forum. I look forward to learning more and getting to know you all better.

    Marty,

Thank you for such a wonderful site. I've wanted a way to support our soldiers for a long time. I'm so glad I found you guys!

Keeping anysoldier and our servicemen & women in my prayers.

    G-d Bless,

My name is G.   I must say this is a wonderful site. :) Not only is everyone on here very supportive to our troops but also to the people who read the forums and post.

My neice just got back from being deployed to Iraq. My cousins son is on his 2d tour, and my sons cousin (who was severly injured in Afghanistan at Christmas last year) My son is 17 and will be going to MEPS next week for the MTNG. Proud Mom!!  When you are filled with worry about family, friends, or any solders that are deployed I find that I can go to AS and read the encouragement and support that people give to our soldiers. Which makes a person feel good inside.

I found this and I thought I would share this cute idea for christmas.

military survial kit   hope this works if  not you can email me.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hey Guys...its me the OSU-DAY SPA MGR-CRAZY LADY IN OHIO ...lol Just wanted to share this

I work for a nice sized day spa in Akron. Im the mgr there and we receive these sample or trial sizes all of the time form a company whos job is to get trial/sample sizes out to the public and they send HUGE boxes to our office. these items are placed in gift bags for our clients. So as Im speaking to a rep from this company I felt it was a great time to hit them up for items for the troops.

I tell her the whole story about my family...reconnecting with my high school sweetheart whos now a SGM with 24 yrs (we will be married in Feb) and my 20 yr old son whos now at Ft Benning at basics and how I got involved recently with AnySoldier.com. I ask..."hey do you ever have over stocks?  If so what do you do with them,?"  Now keep in mind when we get things from this company its in MONSTEROUS shipments. At work we just got a shipment of 5000 womens razors! these would be ideal for our troops....no shave gel needed. ITS BUILT IN!!!!

with that being said...once I fill up my soldiers requests, I would be happy to share my bounty with other AnySoldier.com supporter in the area...and im sure I will have plenty to go around!

    my email is horsepowerco@aol.com

also was wondering how many of you are from the Akron Canton Ohio areas?

Got another ? for you guys.  With getting the items requested, shipping, packaging...etc...the $$$ adds up. has anyone done a fund raiser to help cover $$$? if so how did you go about it? I have a great Org here at the Akron Airport. MAPS. Milt. Aircraft Preservation Soc....WONDERFUL people. Last Sat night was a WWII style hanger dance. WHAT I RIOT! the pics I took were great! Anyway ...a few of their memebers offered to help with a fund raiser BUT I have no idea how to go about it...any input would be WONDERFUL! Thanks everyone.

    Christy!

    GO BUCKS!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

WOW Christy!!! That's fantastic about the razors!! I live in Florida and support a number of females. I'm sure there must be lots of supporters in your area who would want the razors but, if not, I'd send you a check for a large flat rate box full to send out for Christmas with the other girly stuff I have. Just IM me.  I've never done a fund raiser - but I think you're half way there when you actually have people willing to help you!  Good Luck and good job with the razors!
