    "Carrier" show about Navy life

Just happened to notice a show starting tonight on PBS called Carrier, focusing on life onboard the Nimitz Navy aircraft carrier. Even if you don't watch the show, you might check out their site - really nice.

Time It runs Sunday through Thursday this week, with start times at 8 and 9pm (CST). Thought some of you here might also enjoy it!

I saw the promo for this on the Pentagon channel. It looked pretty good and sailors highlighted in the program were so excited !

I watched most of this tonight, and it was REALLY good! Very interesting, and much better than most "reality" television. And you get to hear from all different jobs, ranks, and ages of Sailors (and a few Marines, too).

My favorite part was when they pulled into Pearl Harbor, with all the Sailors lined up on deck in their white "cracker jacks". It actually brought tears to my eyes, and a whole lot of good old fashioned American pride.

I highly recommend checking it out! Yes

I agree. It was very good and definitely better than most reality shows. Pulling into Pearl Harbor was quite poignant.

I thought it was interesting to hear about life on a Navy ship from a variety of perspectives. I think I would go crazy in such a confined community for 6 months!

Great series and how I wish my co workers would work as well as the team on the USS Nimitz! To me, it shows real life onboard and just how amazing the sailors and officers are who serve our country.

I watched again tonight, and another good show. A bit more about some of the problems the sailors face, some of them pretty serious. But still, most of them are really proud of their jobs and of being in the Navy.

    It's quite engrossing - I can't wait to see tomorrow night's episode!

    I am loving this program!

Did anyone notice the name "Mel Gibson" is under producers?

    Coincidence???  I mean really, I don't know...

This is an amazing show! Thanks for linking to it. I started watching it on the website last night and I'm hooked. It's great to see what their lives are like.

Yes, it's THE Mel Gibson. If you notice the logo at the beginning and end for "Icon Productions" it's the same "Icon" that made other Mel Gibson movies...

I have been watching this show also and think it is great. I can't imagine sleeping in the close quarters like they do. Watching one sailor demonstrating how he has to get into his top bunk ...geesh!!...It was a beautiful sight to see them pull into Pearl Harbor....Never realized how many different "jobs" there were on board, plenty of opportunities available. (the food didn't look to good though)
