    Fabric/Curtains/Privacy Questions

I'm curious about how and where soldiers hang large pieces of fabric between their beds for privacy. I have some, but frankly, it's heavy, nearly army green (not exactly a chnage of scenery).  Anyone have working knowledge of the practicals? For exxample, would Ineed to send rope and clothespins, should I run a pocket rod hem, should I ask before I send it? It would take up an entire large FRB so I want to make sure I send only what would be used.

    Re: Fabric/Curtains/Privacy Questions

For one of my contacts I sent several shower curtains that I found marked down at Kohl's.  I also sent the shower curtain hangers thingees with the rolling metal balls on top for ease of movement, these were purchased from Lowes.  I sent several heavy gauge twines, some heavy duty laundry rope and hammer and nails.  I got an email back that they made this system work well and all the extra supplies were kept to repair the privacy screen system at a later date.

I don't know if this will work in your contact's situation.  A lot would depend on the type of building they are living in.

    Best,

This is my experience, which is similar to Buckeye Sue's.

I just sent these items a week ago, so I was hesitant to post about it until I heard back from my contact.

I found several "bungee type" clotheslines.  I got one at ***'s Sporting Goods -  Coghlans Pegless Bungee Clothesline #0433 and the other at CVS.    The one at ***'s has a carbiner type hook on each end.  They extend around 8 foot each.  I figured my contact could hook one side of the bungee on each side of the bunk area as a type   of "curtain rod".  I found a very inexpensive cloth shower curtain and plastic hooks that I figured he could feed on the bungee as a curtain.  It seems like it will work.  You could probably make it even longer if you could hook a couple more bungees together...just a thought.

Just heard from my contact today.  Everything worked beautifully, and they were VERY pleased.  I can't wait to see the pictures! Smile

Privacy curtains are such a blessing. Our areas are cordoned off with 560 cord on nails, sheets and clothespins. On other deployments we have used large safety pins(or whatever we had available). Hooks are great too for joining corners. Can I suggest colored or dark sheets?  White doesn't always lend much privacy.

Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughfulness. I know your contacts really appreciate all you do.

Tammy, I have yards and yards of a dark greyish green fabric that I was going to make sofa slipcovers with. But we've since changed the sofas! Anyway, they are not made of cotton but some synthetic like rayon. Would they be okay? They might shrink a bit in the wash and be wrinkled, but their thickness would definitely cover privacy issues.

    What do you think?

I think it will work. They can always cut it to the size they need. If you are afraid it will shrink, you could wash it before you send it, especially if their laundry facilities are limited. I don't think they will mind wrinkles. That is very thoughtful of you to think to send your fabric.
