And now for something completely different...

Christine Parent says her shop has started a rubber chicken collection. Okay, I know rubber chickens have been sent, so it's not really completely different.

But, for anyone who wants a change from the serious and knows where to get rubber chickens at a good price, here's your chance!

Pamela -  Wow - what a coincidence - I was just at the party store in my area yesterday and noticed they had a whole bin of these things.  First time I've seen them locally.  Thanks for posting.

Ha! I am going to have to do this one.

I've seen "take your rubber chicken to work day" where everyone submits a picture of themselves at work with the RC, and contests for disguising/decorating a rubber chicken. So if you are interested, it might be fun to customize your RC or take a picture with it before sending it.

Maybe dress it as your "state bird"!!  Wink  I saw some at Spencer Gifts a week or so ago--they're probably cheaper at the discount party stores, though. I'll see what I can come up with!   Fun!!

Check the Dollar General stores in your area.  They have a small rubber chicken that squawks.  Either $1.50 ro $2.  Really kinda' cute.

I got the squawking chicken at Dollar General here in Minnesota and they were $1 each. They're pretty funny!

Okay, this one is right up my alley....the Chicken Challenge.  It's completely irresistible to someone like me.  So I set off to get a chicken.  Went to 3 stores...no luck except for the little ones and I wanted a BIG chicken.  Finally called around and the only place I could get one was Spencer's.  So today after work I got it.  It's a squawking, yellow, approximately 20" long, plucked rubber chicken.  BORING.  So I fixed the chicken up and put on a bunch of those temporary tattoos.  Much more impressive.  Now, I needed a way to present this bird, so I wrote a poem to go with it to A'stan.  Sorry I cannot post any chicken photos (it's pretty funny), but here's the poem:

    THE INCREDIBLE TATTOOED CHICKEN

There once was a chicken named Squawk,

Who felt plain and terribly sad.

The plucked body was just all yellow

I mean, this chicken looked bad.

So, how to spruce up the image?

There had to be a way.

    Aha, a bunch of tattoos

"Fix me up", she was heard to say.

    Now that bird looks fabulous,

With 22 tattoos, all brand new

    Butterflies, lizards, and a tiger

    Just to name a few.

    The incredible tattooed chicken

Is quite a sight to behold

    Better than a circus sideshow,

    If the truth be told.

    She’s flying off to Afghanistan

Hopes to make a soldier’s day

Where she will join their collection

But she’s one of a kind, I’d say.

    The incredible tattooed chicken

She’s a good luck charm for sure

She’s bringing love from the USA

With a heart that’s solid and pure.

And I'm already plotting my next chicken!

Kathy, AWESOME poem! You better report back what the response is to this.

My little anemic chicken is going to seem pretty puny next to yours... Embarrassed

Well Ms. Cunningham - no one every said we should take pictures!

DUH!  Completely forgot to photograph the 3 sets of twin Mr and Mrs complete with bows and neck ties that left yesterday for Astan!  One set even had their own pac of sunscreen - they were a bit pale!  Each also had their own floral bouquet.  Without the inspiration for poetry I had to resort to toys for them to entertain themselves on the way over and then present to their new owners.

Oh I think we have a real challenge going here.  I think the Sailors will be pleasantly surprised and entertained.

Come on Jenifer - with all those neices and nephews I just know your creativity is huge!:)

Ms Cunningham - great poem - I can definitely see a Chickenlitzer prize in the offing!

    Ann

P.S.  I actually only planned to send the chickens - sorta got carried away as I packed the box!  How can you just send the plain ole chickens?

Hey Jenifer,   When you have a collection  there's no such thing as just an anemic chicken.  It's all good.  Anyway, it would be lots of fun to do an "anemic chicken" poem.  Let me know if you need any help!  Anyway, putting tattoos on the chicken was easy.  Rubber chicken skin is a little bumpy, but unlike little kids, the chicken doesn't move.  Now keeping the dog away was a bit more problematic....

Ann,   Mr. and Mrs. Chicken...love it!  Bows and ties and toys, sounds perfect and I know what you mean about them looking a little pale.  I thought about putting the chicken in a coffin since it's dead and plucked, but that was just too morbid.  Sunscreen...much better plan.

Come on people....anyone else up to the "Cheesy Chicken Challenge" ??

Kathy - that's fantastic! Everybody is coming up with great ideas! And I agree that standard rubber chickens will also be a hit because they are going to be helping to grow the flock!

How about posting taking pics of your chicks before sending them out? Post them on Flickr or wherever you prefer, then display link to the photo here. I'm not sure why, but people aren't posting pics in the forums - maybe that's a new capability?

I've been dying to get started on this one but haven't had time to go shopping til today.

    ==========================

EDIT:  I just heard that we aren't supposed to be displaying images in posts. So change the suggestion from "display the photo here" to "link to the photo here."

Great ideas, and very cute poem, Kathy!  Another idea might be to send plain chickens to a group along with craft items so they could have their own chicken-decorating contest in A-Stan or Iraq!  In the meantime, I'll have to think about a Wisconsin chicken to send.....maybe a Brett Favre Packer Poultry??!!    Big Smile

I have just purchased a rubber egg laying chicken to send and I'm rather excited about it! I have zero crafty skills so the egg laying/ suck the egg back in design will have to stand on it's own Big Smile

In my chicken search, i found this nifty website... http://www.zymetrical.com/search.asp?7=chicken I think y'all will like it too! So as not to neglect my other contacts, I also have on the way a variety of funny glasses, some whoopie cusions, a couple of fake parking tickets for the humvees and in very poor taste... an ink pen shaped like a poop. Ha!

    Hi--

There is now a Packer chicken ready to be "deployed"!  I bought one of the shirt-shaped Packer jersey bottle coolers to dress him in and also a miniature Packer helmet.  I wasn't able to find football cleats to fit the bird's feet, but he looks ready for the gridiron (and not the grill! Big Smile) nonetheless!  Wouldn't it be great if we could win the wars with nonsense??!!  This thread would be a good start!
