    Shoes for local women?

Do you think local Afghani women would use open-backed sandals with a 1" heel? (kinda like this general shape) I have a bunch of women's shoes to send to one of my contacts that deals with locals, but not sure if some are practical for them. I don't have any way to ask my contacts, either - no email addresses.

If anyone has email contact with someone who deals with donations for Afghani women, I'd really appreciate if you'd ask them. I won't be mailing that for another week or two.

    Thanks!

Widget - I have a co-worker that spent his tour in A-Stan & got back a few months back.  I will ask him if he noticed what type of shoes the local women wore.

I know he kept talking about all the T & A he saw in A-Stan (Toes & Ankles) ... lol

    Will let you know Wink

I talked with my contact @ work today & he said that most all of the Afghani women wore open toe sandals with lil or no heel.  He said if the sandles had heels they weren't much.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for checking, Tony! I think I'll donate some of these to a local charity instead of sending them out.

    Re: Shoes for local women?

Many years ago I visited Iran when it was still under the Shah's rule.  Women at that time dressed more fashionably than I did and had pumps/high heels and flats and so forth on their feet.  There were still some sandals but am guessing that many of the poor ladies wear those only because it is all they can afford.  Remember that under their burqa (long black veils) with which they cover themselves with in public, they do have a "private life" and also, don't forget there is a rainy and cold season.  They are often on rocky soil from what I've seen and I can't imagine what it is like to do that in sandals continuously.

I would, if I were you, send them anyway.

If you do send them (and I imagine they are smaller in size since the ladies there appear to be smaller than here generally), I'd love to hear any feed back.

    Good luck.
