Hi, Leo -- yes, sorry -- I meant the Hawaiian shirts in Tara's pix on her latest post Smile

re kernels    i buy the 50 # bag   repack it in one gallon zip locks   send about 25 pounds per Priority Box   great value

remember to squeez air out of zip locks   this is important as when you ship by air the pressure is less than 14.7 psi in cabin and air expands inside zip lock bag so to prevent it popping open  i squeez air out thus leaving room for air to expand while being shipped on aircraft        (i know   run on sentence  lol)

and since you are a "known shipper" to Tara   and items will be heated in pop corn machine it is ok to repackage food item

I sent a little oil last week, and a little oil and salt this week but will be out of town (way out of town Travel ) for two weeks, so I won't be able to ship anything to anyone.  Can anyone pick up my slack while I'm out ???

Yes, Kristen - Finding popcorn oil and popcorn salt appear to be rocket science.  That stuff flies off the shelves around here too.  If it's in stock, it's right by the bags of popcorn kernals.  Usually though, it's just that empty space by the popcorn.

The 16oz bottles of Orville Reddenbacher oil fit perfectly in the gallon size ziplock bags.  I tape the lids down then tripple bag them because it's so much liquid.

    Re: Movie Night!

    Kristen,

I definitely know how busy life can be..so no worries! I wanted to update all of you on movie night numbers. The past three weeks we have had 211, 250, and 310 excited kids at movie night. We are changing things up a bit and going to Saturday night next week. Some of the local parents and kids requested to change it related to difficulties with getting ready for school on Monday (after movie night). I can imagine how excited they are and then trying to get them to bed...whew! As a parent, we try to not do things on school nights..so I totally understand. I would rather Saturdays also..

I think that regular oil would work in the popcorn maker, so doesnt have to be butter flavored oil...makes it easier on my MNJ! Also, I am running low on bags also. Still doing great on dumdums..need bubble gum and variety candy soon (tootsie rolls/hard candy).

JoCee and Marilyn, you two take it easy..Jo, I pray you enjoy your trip..and Marilyn, I am praying for safe/quick recovery. We love you, ambassador!

My docs asked if I would request (for our team) instant oatmeal and on-the-go drink mix..great value at Wal-mart are great!..I will also add this to my profile..we are all so grateful for your support and dedication to our kids and military (all over the world).

Debbie, thanks for new movies..Teddy Ruxpin, Toon Factory, Speed Racer and Flipper...the clothes/decorations and goodies were awesome. Gave them to local kids/family of 5..very happy!

Thomas and Lynne..received huge box of popcorn and I have letter in mail with needs for our team..may take a while, but it is in route..thanks for all you do.

To all MNJ..you make this project a success and WE salute YOU!

    love, hugs and chocolate..

Ma'am Tara, Sir(s) Jo, Brian, Vance and Rick

    Re: Movie Night!

    Hi Tara,

I have a 4.38 lb. box of popcorn salt, 4lbs of popcorn kernels,  14 individual oatmeal packets(flavored), 170 pieces of smiley gum, and 4 boxes of bread mixes to send tomorrow. I am not sure of the "use by" date on the bread mixes. Can't find them and I have had them for a bit, so hopefully they will work. If not, pitch them!  Great to see everything is going well with you and the movie nite gang. Haven't talked to Tammy in a while, she went back to work and of course it is football season and she is a big Ohio U. (I think?) fan. Thank you for what you are doing for the kids there. A hearts and mind project for sure for the USA. And you have Marilyn/Wonder Woman on board, no one better!! Hey Marilyn, haven't talked to you in a bit. I did finally get a laptop and almost burned it up....who knew there were air vents on the bottom??? LOL Guess I needed to read the directions BEFORE I needed help, huh?  Take care all and I hope you can use this stuff Tara.Confused God Bless and I will talk to you soon.

    Re: Movie Night!

    Ronda,

I will be looking for your box in about 7-10 days. Thanks so much for sending; the guys will love the oatmeal. We are running low. I'm sure the bread mixes will be great. I will let you know when it all arrives. Everything is going well. This week, we start Movie night on Saturday. The kids are excited and I know it will turn out well.

We also received another industrial popcorn maker. Our Commander is the best! He really takes care of business, so movie night can be a success.

Inventory...we are getting low on popcorn bags; probably have enough for 3-4 wks. We are pretty good on kernels and suckers.

Thanks for all your dedication to our kids...God's strength,

Ma'am Tara and all the Sirs!

Christmas!!!  Music Music ...jingle all the way Music Music Music

I know Tara's been saving some stuff up for Christmas for the kids, and I sent an FRB of vacuum packed little stuffed animals last week with a few school supplies, but I suspect we need a lot more toys for the kids for Christmas.

Does anyone else have Christmas for the kids in the works?

    Re: Movie Night!

    Movie night Junkies,

    Hello from Jolo,

It has been a busy two weeks here. We had 450+ kids last Saturday..O my goodness..it was awesome! They were all so well behaved. We have the Filipino Marines helping now and keep the kids "disciplined"..they laugh and talk but not run around..keeps them all safe. I have handwritten cards in the mail to all who have sent boxes in past two weeks. A big thank you to all! You have blessed us in more ways than you can imagine!

Thanks Gran for sending all the halloween goodies. I will be looking for the box.

I am planning to update my profile tonight. I also wanted to let you know that I will be handing over the donations to a new point of contact by Dec 1 to facilitate a smooth transition when I leave. I should be leaving mid to late December...I think my heart is already aching..I will miss these kids so much. I will never be the same person that I was before..I will always cherish "movie night" and YOU...all of your support makes this possible.

I did do a SHOUT OUT to movie night junkies on a local radio station here. We utilize the radio broadcast as a way to build rapport with locals and remind all of our kiddos of movie night happenings. I mentioned our ambassador, Marilyn, by name. It was a great experience. I expect that our numbers will continue to grow!

I love you all and thank you for all you are doing..soon enough, I will be one of you..sending "love and goodies" in a box.

Ma'am Tara, Sirs Brian, Jovan, Rick, and Vance

    Re: Movie Night!

Tara, Thanks again for all the work you and your team do for movie night, that is far above what your duty calls for. I apologize for not sending as much recently, but I did ship sixteen pounds of assorted tootsie rolls yesterday, so they should arrive before you leave. Thanks again, David

    Re: Movie Night!

    David,

Thanks so much; I received your box of tootsie rolls yesterday!

I wanted to wish all my supporters, who I lovingly refer to as Movie Night Junkies, HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I thank God for each of you and pray that you all had a wonderful day, surrounded by family and friends. We had a huge Thanksgiving meal here yesterday. I cooked side dishes and about 15 desserts. We had about 200 people and  it was a wonderful gathering. It was nice to be in the company of my deployed "family" and enjoy song, love and laughter.  A praise team from Jolo Christian church sang and played instruments while we ate. I am looking forward to going home, but  my time here in Jolo has made me a better person. OUR project "movie night" has made the sacrifice of being away from my family so worth it. Again, I am grateful to God for each of you. Thanks for all the recent packages; I have mailed out cards to everyone, so they should be arriving to you soon.

I am leaving in about 2-3 weeks. SSgt Dodie Bumanglag, Sir "Boom", will be taking over movie night donations. He will create a profile this weekend and you can start addressing donations to him. I can't believe how hard that was for me to type. I am not looking forward to giving this project up, but Boom is going to take the ball and run with it. He and I were on the radio together discussing Movie Night and doing 'shout outs' to all of you. It was so much fun. I know he will do a fantastic job running the show! I will continue to support movie night from home and keep up with forum..I am blessed to have been a part of something that will last a lifetime in these kids hearts and minds. I love them and I know you do too. Keep Camp Bautista in your prayers and thoughts..My prayers will go forth for all of you, always!

Mom Tara, Sir Brian, Sir Jovan, Sir Rick and Sir Vance
