Oberto Beef Jerky ~ If you have other Jerky sources, feel free to post

I did a search for "jerky" and came-up with a lot of hits, but I didn't see anything about this, and thought that I would post it.

I've ordered from Oberto several times, and they will often have some really good specials.  They have their "regular" site, which you can go to www.oberto.com and then they have their shopping website www.obertoshopping.com  Though you can find their products in many stores, I think their online prices are much better.  If you sign-up for their "club" you will also receive additional email discounts at times.  You have to check frequently, because their specials (especially their clearance items) change all the time.  They will ship directly to APO/FPO.

If anyone knows of other good pricing sources for jerky, please feel free to post!

    Thanks. . . George

I get Jacks Links at Sams 3 Lg bags for 8.50. That's pretty good but you have to pay for shipping. I like jerky bags to pad the bottom of boxes since they're a little puffy with air or something :)

If your looking for a mail order place for jerky try Tillamook County Smoker at www.tcsjerky.com they have excellent products and they are offering free shipping through August on order of $45 or more.  They will send to the troops for you.  I'm an Oregonian and grew up on this stuff and still order from them every chance I get.

Tanka Bars - Who knew buffalo and cranberries went together!?!?

I just found an interesting article on USAToday.com about "Tanka Bars".  You can read it by clicking HERE.   Yes, it's a mixture of buffalo and cranberries.  The information says that the bar looks a lot like jerky, but has more water in it.  You can purchase online at www.tankabar.com They are not cheap. . . . a little over $2 each + shipping or 48 for $99 including shipping.  But if you're looking for something "different" to send to someone, then this might be it.

www.jerkynet.com/store is  offering a 4% discount.  Go to their website, and click Military Discount at the top, and also click APO Shipping How To at the top to see how to complete the address.  Please see info below as well.

     George

Do you have a loved one, or friend currently serving overseas? Our deployed troops love getting care packages of beef jerky. JerkyNet makes this task easy. We take care of all the extra customs forms and extra packaging needs. And your end is simple! Once you have your order together, simply change the shipping address on your order to their APO/FPO address during checkout! As an added incentive, JerkyNet will discount your order 4%!

Discount ONLY applies if shipping to an APO/FPO address. The discount is calculated during checkout, and is deducted before you finish checkout.

Here's a link to the place where I order jerky (and other neat candies) for the troops (Buffalo Bill products). They ship to military addresses, as well as the States. They also have low-carb and low-calorie jerky, and, you can include a message with your purchase. My guys loved the jerky "chew". They tell me they can slip it in their packs or pockets. At first, I sent it as a joke, but now I send it along as part of the package. I am not advertising for this company, and you can read the ingredients for anything that might refer to "pork".

And, you can order thru Amazon.com too!

Excellent post George, I never new those tanka bars existed and all this information on jerky is excellent, seeing as how troops love jerky and slimjims.  Speaking of those, any websites out there for bulk on slimjims??  Figured that might help some of you all too!  I will try and look up some info on it later as well :)

Once again, great post George, very informative.

There is an Oberto jerky store in Seattle.  Be aware:  much of the stuff in the outlet store is out of date or nearly so.  I have no idea what the clearance web site does but the store is full of the stuff.

I guess it's not "jerky" but at Sam's club, they have a 2.5 lb beef summer sausage right next to the jerky. It is $4.31. I have sent it previously and just went to get some more- so I double checked and that weight and price are correct. I enclose a bunch of ziplock baggies. It just seems like a phenomenal buy.

There is an alternative to beef jerky too.  It is called Landjaeger.  It is much better tasting than any beef jerky I have eaten (Jacks Links, etc.).  No offense to you Jacks Links fans.  I emailed the company below and unfortunately while the interior of the Landjaeger is all beef, there is pork in the casing.  Now I do on occasion send to troops where there is no pork restriction such as Columbia so those of you who do what I do might be able to send an alternative to your troops.  From what all of you say, a variety is a good thing :)

I've ordered from the first link and they are very, very good.  Taste like salami a bit with not so much salt.  They do not have to be refrigerated.  I left a stick out for three weeks on my kitchen counter wrapped in tin foil and then ate it to make sure.  Tasted great!

www.Jerky.com has a whole page of products that are able to be shipped to APO/FPO addresses.  They also give 10% off of an order shipping to an APO/FPO address by typing 'military' in as the coupon code during checkout.

They feature products that are made in the U.S.A....not the cheap, foreign crap some of the other websites and gas stations sell.  Its the place to go for gourmet jerky!

    Good luck!
