Hi guys, My kroger sells little fruit pies, and I'd love to send some to Iraq as part of a July 4th package. (because, what's more American than apple pie) But, don't know how well they'd ship. Any insight or suggestions would be great. Thanks Amy P.

Sorry, but I'll bet those pies are not packaged to travel. And if they are not sealed and all how will the troop know they are not homemade- and therefore forbidden. Have you heard of pies in a jar?

I have purchased some at Aldi (www.aldifoods.com)  before and sent them without a problem.  They are pre-packaged.  I just put them in zip-loc bags.  Yes, they might get "bounced-around" a little but even if they are not in perfect condition, I'm sure the guys will still love them.  Just like cookies. . . they might be broken by the time they arrive, but they taste just the same. If they are not pre-packaged (loose), then there might be an issue, but the ones I have gotten from Aldi and even Costco before were fine.

I have another question to ask, but didn't want to start another new thread. Hopefully one of ya'll will read this and give me some more help..... One of my contacts is asking for a cd with all my favorite songs. I know we aren't allowed to send homemade things, does this include burned cds? Thanks for your help.

I've sent burnt dvd's and the guys loved them.

Just be aware (re: burned cd/dvd) that you are not violating any copyright laws -- illegal copies of music and movies are forbidden items and could get both yourselfs and the soldiers in trouble.  Although I don't practice patent law, I've heard there are laws out there that say violations of copyrights/patents can results in fines of $100,000 per violation.

I have wanted to send the hand held pies that are individually packaged but found that the dates are only good for about one week.  I also saw some little individual pies at Wal-Mart yesterday and they were date stamped a week out.  Be sure you check the dates because of the heat now I wouldn't push it.

While I was mobilizing in Ft Bliss, I was in a remote area training and somehow we were still able to recieve mail and internet (sometimes, haha).  I asked my wife to send me a pecan pie, because it is one of my favorites. 

 She sent a full-size pecan pie and when it got to me, it was so beaten up I could scarcely recognize it.  Though this was in the states, I assume it might do worse being sent to Iraq or Afghanistan IF it were a full-size pie, but if packaged well the smaller size pies should do fine.

Sometimes you have to try it to find out :P

The anysoldier.com website requests that you do not send burned CDs, DVD, or violate the copyright law in other ways as it can get this website in trouble also (not to mention yourself).  Yes the technology exists to burn, and it is legal for your own use.  It isn't legal to distribute even if you are not making a profit, as it prevents a sale for the artist.  You may not agree but that is how the law reads at this time.

 

Sgt Sproul has been a great field tester for some of my more creative ideas.  I just sent him 3 ready to eat grahm pie crusts along with 3 cans of pie filling.  I also found individual ready to eat crusts.  Along with some grahm cracker crumbs for the top.  I'll let you know what he says..

LOL--Those guys will eat anything no matter it's condition...LOL  You could have poured it all loose in a zip lock bag & given them a spoon and they'd eat it...even if they didn't have a spoon!  LOL  But I'll be interested in the "verdict".

 

Here's a place that sends storable, ready-to-eat cheesecake, deep dish peach crumble, and chocolate hazelnut bavarian cream.  Again, not sure how it actually tastes, as I've never tried one.

I would wager that a pecan pie would last a lot longer than a fruit pie.  I have seen the individual pecan pies around the holidays so that might be something to keep in mind for "special" pecan pie lovers. 

Do you like plain old raw pecans?
