    Re: Medical Units

I saw scrubs tops and bottoms at Costco for 2/$3.97.  I thought this info would come in handy, I just didn't know when.

    Hi Vicki:

I've been looking around for scrubs. That's a great price. Did they have tops and bottoms? I'm in NorCal so I'm hoping they have them up here.

    Thanks!

Glen, look up eggcrate mattress on the internet and you will find lots of choices.   They are usually foam mattresses a few inches thick that are laid on top of the regular hospital bed mattress.  They mattress isn't smooth.  It has bumps like an empty egg carton.  It is to relieve stress on pressure points for patients who have to be in bed for a while.   They can be ordered from medical supply companies but I also saw some when I was out and about the other day....now if I could only remember where....maybe Walgreens or Wal-Mart.  Had to have been somewhere I was getting soldier stuff.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Medical Units

    Glen,

I haven't done eggcrate material but I sent some 3" foam mattresses last year and it's the shipping costs that will get you on this stuff. If you buy from a bricks&mortar shop, measure the product, get a weight estimate, make sure a box is available and check the shipping costs on the USPS.com site before you open your wallet. Any price comparisons need to include the shipping cost. Don't order online from a company that won't give you a shipping quote up front.

I ended up getting my mattresses from KnoxFoam. They had free shipping to APOs (at least at that time, they did) so prices that initially looked high were actually much less than other places.  The website does not specifically state free shipping to APOs and not all items have free shipping so you would need to call or email first, but this is the link to their eggcrate: http://www.knoxfoam.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=350

    Re: Medical Units

Hey Glen - did a quickie look online.  These aren't the dollar store stuff :)  Haven't used one myself in years so don't really remember the pricing - they are a God send tho to sleep on.

Checked ebay - not very good at that so .. - prices I found online ran in the thirties - no shipping tho.  As I remember, if you buy them yourself and ship - DONT" take out of original packing - you'll never get 'em back in.:)  I found brown boxes at Staples that they'd probably fit in that I've shipped before - also not cheap but not real expensive either - very sturdy - in the 14 to 18 inch sizes.  The 14 goes for regular pricing rates at the PO.

You might try and find out how thick/not so thick is needed.  They mid level thicknesses might suit there purposes just fine (don't know just speculating) so buying and shipping would be a bit easier.

    Hope this helps.

    Ann

P.S.  Almost forgot - they look like the soundproof material used inside computer rooms/music rooms - if you've ever seen that stuff - except the color is ivory or white. :)

Brett Anderson stated that there's a Dutch facility nearby with a BX. We can't send Euros but I'm willing to bet that Dutch soldiers don't get as much mail as ours do and would be willing to trade.  If the Dutch have cooking facilities, they need Kluski (a PA Dutch pasta very similar to what they use in Dutch-Indonesian cooking), Conimex mixes (kind of like an Indonesian Hamburger Helper), Kecap Manis and Sambal (condiments), and of course everyone needs Nutella.

If anyone is able to establish contact with him, it would be nice to know if trade for the things we can not send is feasible.

Glen, Walmart and Kmart carries egg crates but they usually put them out with the college dorm stuff. They aren't cheap. about thirty dollars. I had to buy three for my girls college bunks. They do improve the comfort of those plastic mattresses.  Diane

    Re: Egg crate mattress Pads

Right now Miles Kimball (catalog & website http://mileskimball.resultspage.com/search?p=Q&ts=custom&w=313310) has Four Zone Mattress Pads on sale.  Twin size is $11.99 PLUS if you purchase $50 worth of products and order before July 15, you get FREE SHIPPING and they ship to APO!  And if you ship directly there, there would be no sales tax...  Sounds like a deal to me.  If it asks for a "Source code" you can use the one I have 10158512405.  They also have 4th of July items, toys, and basic hygiene items, plus fudge & other candy.  If you've never seen their catalog it is an interesting mix of products (albeit some rather "cheesy"...lol), generally not too costly including the "As Seen on TV" items.

Gawd!  I do love shopping!  LOL

    Re: Medical Units

Whoa - just let me know when your next shopping class starts!!!  i though I was a bargain hunter - growing up around here I learned early - never pay retail.

The best deal I found on egg crates ( love that name - I just bought an egg crate today sounds so weird ) was a Kohl's ad today for this Saturday 7a to 1P all egg crate mattress toppers (they call them ) - all sizes are 29.99 - I know, more expensive than 11.99.  BUT if you get a king size it can be cut  in half making two twins - they are foam - you get two for $30 which is $15 each.  Just a thought.

Alas not as good as your price, but still a good deal.  Hat's off to you ma'am.Smile

    Re: Medical Units

Okay, I just ordered 5 of the twin size ones to be sent to Brett Anderson. It was free shipping, but I decided to pay $6.00 for priority USPS. In the picture they look kind of thin. But, alot of times they just need some padding under a brace or to hold a limb up off the bed so a bedsore does not develop.

I hate to shop actually and I love the internet. So thanks for the information.
