    Deb,
You crack me up....and she is under lock and key....at least as much as a High School sophomore can be.....

No, the children don't have their own copies of the Koran.  Most little children don't.  Plus they can't read it anyways.  The Koran is not written for children to understand.  It is written in a very elevated, poetic language, many adults can read it, phonetically sounding out the words and stuff, but have difficulty understanding the meaning.

    Re: Orphanage in Afghanistan

    Hi,

The VA had a Women's Equality Day and wanted people nominated for awards in 3 categories. So, Reba the rebel, nominated me for the Woman of the Year for the humanitarian award and then she got just about everyone in the unit to sign the paper. Well, Tuesday, they had an award presentation in the middle of the day. I had gotten an e-mail to come to it. But, I work nights so I don't go to things in the daytime. Roy and I were mailing the packages to Mike for the orphanage. Anyway, Wednesday morning one of the associate chiefs came around to tell me I WON!!!!!!!!!!!. The chief nurse is probably spitting nails trying to figure out how to ignore it. They are always writing me up and I am always getting the union rep and fighting them all the way to the top. Several persons of authority have just insisted that I falsify charts and I have steadfastly refused. So, I am continuously in a battle with them. They would love to be rid of me. So when Reba told me she was doing this, I told her that she really knew how to PO the administration. Needless to say, it was judged by outside women's groups. So, first I was supposed to go to the director's conference room this morning to get my award. Then, that was cancelled until sometime next week. We'll see if it ever happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I don't have clue of what it might be other than a certificate. But, that should be good enough to throw up to them when I am in the director's office explaining why I didn't "follow directions".

    Re: Orphanage in Afghanistan

    Hey Ruth,

They want to be rid of you, not because you do anything wrong, but because you are making too much money now being an RN.  They pulled the same crap on my Mom for years, before she finally was forced to retire and didn't want to fight it.

But to me, since you are the "Nurse from Hell" like you tell they guys that are afraid of needs, give the Administration Hell and fight them all the way.  They don't want someone working for them that opens her mouth, and makes waves.  Sooooo, I say, make waves, and keep being the humanitarian that you are.  They don't make 'em like you anymore.

    Love to you,

    Mimi

    Re: Halloween at the Orphanage?

    Hey Junkphans....

Have to run this by Mike but was just thinking...  Mike and his unit are expected to leave country in November and so was thinking perhaps to get a taste of what American kids do, they might want to throw a "good-bye and Halloween party for the kids" just before going...  We could send Halloween decorations and little candies and "costumes"---well, at least masks for the kids and have them go "Trick or Treating" with each of the unit in a different doorway or such and get a piece of candy at each in a little sack.  Maybe a toy at the end...?  They could all learn to say "Trick or Treat".  Would be total chaos...but Mike can handle anything...  What does everyone think?  I'm sending Mike an Oriental Trading Co. catalog today so he can maybe put together a wish list for that...  Anyone have any ideas?  Sorry, Mike... Devil

Yes, Mimi...I realize Mike is going to shoot me...LOL

    Re: Halloween at the Orphanage?

    Well Deb,

You trying to get rid of me and my "unit"?  Just so you know, I'm leaving at that time, not the unit.  I'm a rogue on this here battlefield lady, when I go, I go alone.  We come and go as onesies and twosies, not as a typical unit, 150 or more at a time.  We will continue to exist in some form or fashion after I leave, and the mission will continue to go on.......So ya'll don't worry about that now, ya hear?

Don't send the costumes and such, I'm scary enough already.  Hey mimi----Ready----Aim------Fire.....

Just kidding Deb.  BTW, I don't have a precise day to get out, it's all about the flights and stuff.

    GO RUTH!
    NICE!!!

Isn't it amazing how people get pushed around for doing the RIGHT thing!

Or, in some cases for knowing more than someone else and thus being labeled a know=it=all! LOL
I can still remember all the nights I went to night classes to learn computers... others in the office asked for help which I gladly provided... and then I was told to stop because I was making the others look dumb! WOW!

Oh well... I'm now retired and loving life... most of them are still working and hating it!

ENJOY your recognition regardless if or when you get your certificate. KNOW that we love ya!

    Re: Orphanage in Afghanistan

     Hi Debbie and everyone,

I've had a bit of a crazy week this last week and have been out of touch a bit.

The first thing I did this morning is pack a box with some stuff for the kids that I had sitting here all week (clothing, school stuff, miscellaneous) - then I never made it to the post office today before they closed.  I started to clean some clothes out of my son's closet and went to target today and picked up a couple of bargains - now have another pile to box up too!!

It looks like I will have a couple of boxes to go by Tuesday when the post office is open again. I will let Debbie know the list of items before I send them!

By the way Ruth, congrats on your award!  (We each got a really cool certificate and a pin this week for a special duty we did at work and it sure makes one feel good to get recognized. Most of us went because of the overtime money opportunity, but now we have a memory to last a lifetime and something special to put on our resume too!)

It is interesting Mike that you are unique unto yourself and the unit... yet I've recently crossed paths with a few other uniques! I must have a knack for picked those from the listing! LOL.

I had actually contacted my Congressman about the homecoming of one of my contacts -- only to find it was a one or two return rotation.. not a whole unit. LOL.  I still want to meet the plane!  I think everyone returning deserves a HUGE welcome, not just the whole units!  (My new pet peeve!)

I must apologize to everyone... I didn't get one single box into the mail this week. UGH!  Lots of little crises seemed to pile atop one another.  Things are smoother as of today but tomorrow is a holiday and no post offices are open. UGH!  Will plan on doing the PO run first thing Tuesday.... unless the cable company decides that will be their return trip for the third attempt to fix what their installation guy screwed up! AAAGGGHHH!

Will post what I send when it is in the mail!

HOPE EVERYONE IS ENJOYING THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND!  Especially you and your unit, Mike!  I know days off are hard to come by over there.  Know that you are being remembered and thought of a lot!!!

    Take care,

    Re: Orphanage in Afghanistan

    Anna,

Silly!  No appologies are ever needed for getting boxes out or not getting them out.  I'm sure Mike has received enough to keep him busy.  Besides, as we go along the needs list is shrinking and so some of the items are more costly to get and the easy ones are "taken".   As usual, any effort is appreciated, by everyone!  We love the commraderie anyway.

OK so I'm getting the list out now even though perhaps there are some earnest Labor Dale Sale shoppers out there.  If I get a big list from people, I may publish again during the week.  In the mean time here's the latest.

Take care and thanks for all the effort from everyone.
