    Re: Afghanistan Orphanage---FOUND!

B&B - This Saturday's mailing includes 7 dozen pens, a dozen pop-up pencils, a dozen scissors, 3 dozen pairs of girls panties (size 4 only - what can I say? that was the only size they had left at a great price!) , more feminine hygiene stuff, Cortaid, Carmex, vitamin c drops, etc. You get the picture.   I hope that you've received the vitamins from CVS by now and I'll try to send more the next time that sale comes up.

Now the big question - what do you guys want/need?   I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be happy to sneak a few trooper items in with the orphanage things!!!

    Umm...and did I mention pictures?....oh yeah, I did.  Wink

    Howdy y'all,

I normally post and operate my packages from my flea market location... however, I'm temporarily at home --

so could someone hit the 'send a private message' and give me the address to send my boxes to the orphans.

    THANKS.

This is just a temporary set-back. I should be back up and about in another two weeks. (HOPE, PRAY and PRAY some more!)

    Take care,

I noticed he said he could get notebooks reasonably over there which surprises me. I've been sending school supplies to Soldiers for the schools they are helping for over five years and that's the first time I have heard that said. Most soldiers want them. I am packing several boxes right now and am uncertain whether to include the spiral notebooks I have. Any thoughts?

I have a contact who is sponsoring several schools and wrote me that paper is so expensive that many families can't afford to send their kids to school. Apparently they have to have a notebook and pencil in order to attend. I think it depends on the area of Afghanistan. The orphanage is in a more developed area than the little villages on the border.

After comparing prices per vitamin tablet of everything on the shelf.  I found some at WalMart that are the most economical about 3.7 cents each.  So take your calculators to the store with you.  You might be surprised.

    Re: Afghanistan Orphanage-VIDEO!!

Hello My Friends of long standing, and those of you new to me!

If any of you would like to see video of the boys' compound here is old video shot (It looks like pre-Mike days.):

There has been no update on the girls' orphanage blog since July 8 and they have not yet started a boys' blog.  Again, keep good thoughts and prayers going for the safety of Brandon and Bill and the rest of the guys and kids.  Tough time over there in Afghanistan now heading up to their election.

BTW if any of you old timers are wondering what is up with my posts, seems there is some sort of glitch in the system which doesn't let me post from home...even with wiping me out back to zero didn't help.

Hope all is well with y'all as Mike would say.  Take care.

    Love and Hugs all around.

PS And, for all of you who know me from times past, yes, I cried for days over the loss of the brothers.  I was the one who asked Gran to post their passing for me since I have been struggling to get on.  Sigh.

PPS Since you all also have big hearts for the kids, if you haven't already, PLEASE check out a book called Three Cups of Tea by Mortenson.  It will give you hope for the children in that part of the world!

Get the book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson from your local library as I did. If your library doesn't have a copy (shame on them), ask to get it through the inter-libary loan system. It's absolutely fascinating. It gives a rich background to the Pakistan, Afghanistan area we all know so little about, along with tremendous insight into the issues that drive what is happening there.

    Re: Afghanistan Orphanage-VIDEO!!

Sure would be nice to hear from these guys and their progress at the girls' orphanage.  I've slowed my packages down ot one per month since I'm not sure if they are making it there and/or being of help to the cause.  Perhaps now that the voting has completed, they will have a chance to update.

I have a box of clothing but I am not sure if the address is still good.  Does anyone have any recent info?

Has anyone heard anything? I have not; therefore, I have been hesitating to send anything more. I am still holding two almost ready boxes of school supplies, shampoo and other items. I hope all is well there, but the silence, even on this forum, is concerning. I had sent two big boxes stuffed with pens, pencils, chalk and spiral notebooks last month, so thought I might have heard something by now by email, if not by snail mail. I certainly don't expect to hear every time, but usually when I have sent such big boxes I have ... and I've been sending school supplies for six years now. I am hoping someone else has heard back. I just would like to know if it's ok to send more - and if both the soldiers and the girls are alright.

I hope this is the right place to post this but GySgt Jason Webb posted and said his Marines are giving up asking for tobacco and snacks and would like us to donate warm clothing and shoes for the children in their area in Afghanistan. I am sending about 40 pairs of children's shoes that were given to me after my church's annual yard sale. Have been storing them for a while waiting for the right time.'Our soldiers have such BIG hearts. Just love them!

    Hello Everyone!

Following empressfrancis's lead I checked out a summary of "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson. It sounds like an interesting story.

If you are concerned about the children, do look into Gregs work.

    I found his blog at:

    http://gregmortenson.blogspot.com/

I also found his twitter at:

Empress, Thanks for the heads up.

One person with their heart involved can do more, than anyone could imagine, just look at Mother Teresa

    Blessings, door

You must be kidding here. That really would not be the way this site operates and mrsmarquis can't post the address.  You can find GySgt Jason Webb amongst the listed contacts and request his address yourself.
