No, I am not kidding. And, you need not be rude, especially as we are all trying to help. As a matter of fact, I found the address for the orphanage through this forum and shipped to it. It's been posted several times. I just wanted to know if the address was the same so I didn't have to dig back a million pages. I have a box ready to go, but hadn't sent it because there had not been any updates. I've been shipping boxes to Iraq and Afghanistan for six years now, through personal contacts, soldiers on this site and another soldier support site. I am well aware that when soldiers don't post for awhile it's best not to send. A polite suggestion to search contacts for Jason Webb would have been nicer.

    Re: Shoes and School Supplies

I'm pretty sure that Anysoldier does not permit posting of addresses here in the forum, but I guess I could be wrong.  Marty is quite strict about OPSEC and the rules by which the site must operate.  It's not rude, it's the rules and those with experience should be well versed in them, I would think. Tongue Tied    If the orphanage address was here at one time, I do not think it is posted here any longer.  What a soldier posts on some other blog or website that is not under the control of Anysoldier is an entirely different thing....

My 2 cents on some serious business!

    Re: Shoes and School Supplies

As I remember it, when the orphanage resurfaced, there was a link in a forum post that lead to the blog of the Herat Girls Orphanage. On that website there was an address. I don't think any address was ever directly posted in the forum, just the link. It wasn't an Any Soldier address on the blog.

Unfortunately, the last post on the blog is from July, nothing afterwards. Also, I dug back and found the address.

This is great news! I, too, have things I have been holding for them. Hope the address is the same.

    Over the counter meds

I have a suggestion. One of the requests for the orphange is for over the counter medicines which can get quite expensive if you have to buy them. Check with your local doctors to ask if they would donate any sample sizes of over the counter medicines that they may have - Cold remedies, tylenol, etc. Maybe, even vitamins. I am about to pick up some that my wonderful pediatricians are giving me and which I will send out immediately.

    Re: Over the counter meds

My dentist donated boxes of toothpaste to me. She said they get it with their order of toothbrushes and don't use them all up. Since her husband is ex-military, she likes to see them go to the troops. I felt funny asking her initially but she got really excited.

Anyone hear anything? I've sent several boxes, while I don't expect to hear personally, I had hoped there might be a post on AnySoldier or on the orphanage site. Maybe soon.

    Re: They're back!!!

i have a stash of school supplies, otc remedies, hygiene items for the girls ready to go.  however, i noticed that the addressee given in  the blog is "commander, orphan,"   no specific name, although it has the other required info.  has anyone sent boxes to "commander, orphan " with success?

    Re: They're back!!!

I've send a number of boxes, but have not heard back. Each box had a letter from me with my email and my address. While I did not ask directly for a response. I did hope to get one. I should have included a self addressed card and asked them to drop it in the mail. I keep forgetting to include one. I even requested that someone update the orphanage blog and this thread on this forum and gave the addresses.
