    CIGARS

Great, now what do I send these guys who sit in 120 degree temps? First send them you r support. That is key.

Cigars are a nice follow up for them though. There is nothing like sitting by your bunker listening to RPGs go over your head and smoking a nice cigar.

There are several places to get cigars. One that does a great job is CigarInternational at http://www.cigarsinternational.com/index.asp. They will add a nice note from you inside the package and send fast enough that they get their without being dried out. Check em out and leave you questions here regarding a few stoags for warriors!! BTW---staogs are a great gift for your warrior for Fathers DAY!!

    ~Hey Gary,

I've SEVERAL requests for cigars. Big Smile  I was wondering if you, or anyone else, had any tips for shipping them? Should I be worried about them getting crushed? Are there any guidelines/laws concerning the shipment of cigars that I should be a wear of?

    Thanks,

    ~Shannon

    Re: CIGARS

For personal reasons, I don't send tobacco but figured I'd pass along this info:  The Kmarts in my area are no longer going to sell cigarettes and cigars and have marked all stock down to 50%.  The normal price of a carton of namebrand (Marlboro, Salem etc) cigarettes in my area is $65* so that's a substantial reduction.

*editorial comment--GASP!  My parents used to go thru 2 cartons a week!!!!!

GREAT! Sure. Send them in a baggie with a wet paper towel if in the summer time. You can put them in a shoe box or better a cigar box which could be bought for $1.00 at any cigar store. Usually I would get a box of cigars in a flat rate box and hand them out. That works pretty good for the guys over there. Also, I dont know any cigar store who has turned anyone down if you tell them you are sending to troops. Hello Discount!!

POST YOUR CIGAR QUESTIONS HERE AND I WILL GET TO THEM!

I didn't know much about these things and felt like I was in a foriegn land and didn't speak the language when I walked into the local cigar store. But mention "cigars for soldiers" and I walked out with two free bundles of what they call pass arounds. Then I found this site.... www.cubancrafters.com   and they send direct to your warrior. The recipients of the ones I have sent over have been extremly pleased with them. I usually send the variety packs.

Your right about that, I just walked in and told them what I am doing.  The owner of the store gave me about 30 cigars, he packed them for me too.  There were about 5 other people (guys) in the store.  They all pitched in too.  I walked out with about 150 cigars, all packed proper for me.  I sent them off today.  My Marines will be will be in cigars for a while. Cool

That's great!!!  I found that there are a lot of people that are more than willing to show their support when an opportunity presents itself. I had an idea that I am going to suggest to the owner...."Buy one, send one"....for his customers to contribute. It would be a win>win for everyone. I would be willing to do the shipping.

    Re: CIGARS

Gary- I just got a spam ad from Thompson Cigar Co.  they had a deal- 30 cigars in a nice looking metal case for $30.  When I went to the website they had a similar deal- but offering 12 better quality cigars in same case for $30.

What do you think of these sorts of deals- and if it was you and your $30... which would YOU do?

I don't know a thing about cigars, but this might be a pretty good deal:

30 handmade cigars in an aluminum carrying case for $29.

    Re: CIGARS

Yes- that's one of the two deals I was talking about- it really looks nice doesn't it?  maybe I'm a sucker for a nice box- but that box looks like a $30 item without the Cigars!

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first post- I saw two $30 deals offered by Thompson- same pretty case- one had 30 lesser cigars, and one had only 12 higher quality cigars...

so let's say it's the difference between a 80 cent cigar and a $2.30 cigar... since I've never smoked either- how much of a difference is there- and would it be a better choice to provide a lesser product to more people- or a nicer product to fewer people?  (I'm assuming that the box would be shared and would not be a gift for one person- if it was just a one person gift I'd have an easier time deciding)

    Re: CIGARS

Under the circumstances, I'd send a lesser product to more people.  It will not seem like a lesser product to them, as their next lesser alternative is probably nothing at all.  Also, given that they probably haven't had any for some time, a lesser product will taste just great.  That said, I wouldn't send them a truly cheap product, but I'd rather see 30 soldiers thoroughly enjoying a good cigar than 10 enjoying a much better one just a little bit more.

But that's me.  One thing I think is great about AnySoldier is that it gives us supporters total flexibility to send what we are inclined to send.  When I send cheap sheets, I always say that I hope another supporter will send some nicer ones, but...just in case, here are some that are at least serviceable.  And even if they get some nicer ones, they may not get enough for everyone, and, even then, it will probably be nice to have spare set for laundry day. I think among all of us we probably send them a nice mix of things, some just basicallly useful, and others more of a luxury.
