Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
Marty,
Is it known if their shower facilities, etc. were destroyed? In other words, do they need body wash/towels/scrubbies or more basic hygiene like wipes, etc.? Or both?

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
I'm not Marty. . .lol.. . .but I think they are going to need just about everything. From a post on another website, it showed that about 1/2 of them didn't receive support to begin with, so I'm sure that anything and everything will be appreciated. I hadn't thought of towels, but I'm sure that's going to be a need, because they would have burned-up with their clothes, etc. I'm sure that all of their personal items like body wash, etc. were gone also. I just sent a box and also included some pens, writing paper, envelopes, note cards, snacks, playing cards, etc. . . With 80 guys, I'm sure that anything and everything is appreciated, and I also believe there are more guys in the area, so if they have "leftovers" everything will be put to good use.

Agreed. I was just trying to address the most immediate needs first. Then, follow up with packages for what will be used later. They will need everything....I expect their PX (assuming they had on) was destroyed. They will not be able to purchase anything and cannot go online (laptops destroyed) to order anything. They will need all PT stuff from t-shirts and shorts to tennis shoes. All hygiene items. Their DFAC may have been destroyed so may be down to minimal MREs. Pictures of family and all other reminders of home will be gone. Pillows/sheets/cots/beds are gone. Possibly flashlights, weapons cleaning materials, and all other tactical supplies. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, bodywash, shampoo, razors, shave cream, QTips, deodorant, foot/body powder, wipes, towels, scrubbies, etc. All stationery supplies....pocket size notebooks and pens for making notes while on mission, items for writing home, (probably any phone or web/IM capability is gone). Down time items.
The list goes on. But, with such a huge need, I think there is some argument for prioritizing the needs.

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
It's hard to tell exactly what was lost, and what was not. If you read the info on the link posted in the "where to send" section (click HERE) part of the guys lost everything, and the others lost 1/2. You can see some buildings in the pictures, so again, it's just hard to know what was destroyed and what was not. Obviously the barracks are gone, so that means all the personal items. I'm in hopes that the TV station I posted will have more information also. They said, at the end of the video piece, that guys were supposed to be sending them pictures, so I'm in hopes that there will be more detailed information on their report this evening. George

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
K, I have 10 hygiene kits for the marines. Each has his own tote bag filled with full size bath towel, body wash, shampoo, comb, loofah thingy, flip flops, deoderant, razor, shave creme, body lotion, chapstick, toothbrush and toothpaste. I will empty out the stash of minis too so some will get mini gold bonds, sunblock, bug wipes, nail clippers, magazines etc in their totes. Wish i could have done more than 10!
I also put in an emergency request to operation uplink (with Marty's permission) for a bulk order of donated phone cards.. so hopefully we hear something back on that...
It's just so heartbreaking with all these guys sacrafice to have this additional hardship on them :(
I'll try to ship this afternoon, depends on how fast i assemble. If i don't make the cutoff, Monday for sure. Good link George!! Looks like they're going to be doing good on socks :) But us junkies know they need much more than that!! Shelly

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
FYI, According to an article (click HERE) it looks like this group just lost a couple of guys earlier this month. A terrible time for them all the way around. Also, I found what looks to be the 3/6 website HERE. No information about the fire yet though.

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
Four boxes packed so far, will get them to the post office today, along with any more that I can get done today. I sent a PM last night to several of the members that I "know". I am sure they are on it, too.
I am going to use Oconus.com to get some of the bulkier things sent direct.
These poor guys - what a tough time they have had...

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
The website the AS support folks linked just posted an update on some needs for the marines effected by the fire..
Pillows
Running Shoes (Sizes 9-12) with the most common size being 10 1/2
More complete list to be up by 11:59Pm Eastern 29 Jun 2008
I happen to have one pillow in my stash ~ with a superman pillowcase ~ that fits in the box with the hygiene stuff i got earlier so i put that in just now... definately missed today's mail cutoff...
I also googled a public blog (had the same appeal up that we've seen) that is apparently the father of one of these marines. This fella was very nice, he emailed me and said he would be talking to his son tomorrow and would pass on the list of needs he gets as well. I'll update if if i hear more from him! Shelly

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
Everyone, please keep in mind that Karl J Braid's numbers no longer reflect the amount of support that his squad is receiving.
Support Team, is it possible to make note of this at the top of his page, or to roll back his numbers after a couple of weeks?
PS- the towels (actually bath sheets) I have in stock are kind of olive-drabish. Is that an ok towel color for Marines?

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
Hello AS Supporters,
Does anyone out there have any information on the support these Marines may (or may not) be getting? There seems to be a lot of bath and bedding sales (pillows, pillow cases, bath towels, sheets rugs/mats, etc...) online with stores that ship to the APO/FPOs. I have sent some pillows and bath towels from JC Penneys - they had free shipping over the weekend! It looked like there was a picture that showed some weight room things that were burned in the fire. I hope that it wasn't the whole gym.
The article (link) that was in Karl Braid's post still requests running shoes and pillows. And I am sure they would love any snacks that do not need a microwave or other appliances that were probably burned.
Anyone want to share some more suggestions?
Kaylynn

Re: Marines NEED YOUR HELP. Lima 3/6 (Fire)
Hi Kaylynn! I think eveything everyone has suggested sounds great so far. We're pretty versed in the basic needs so the lists everyone has posted look good at a guess. I wish we had more info too about whether they still have showers or dfac or even the gym. :( I also wish i had one of those vacume thingys to send more pillows... I sent an email yesterday to the one father's blog and to the WOT website guy... I recvd an email this morning from CPT Anzevino 's wife so I guess one of them passed my info on to the family group. I'll post anything further that is sent me... I figure they have plenty going on so I didn't want to follow up, I'm just hoping I'm looped into those emails now.. Shelly
Good morning! My name is Kimberly Anzevino. I am the wife of the Lima Company Commanding Officer. I first would like to thank you for your support. I spoke to my husband yesterday and assistance from other Battalions have already started to arrive. I have asked him to put together a list of the Marines that lost everything and what they still need to have replaced. He promised that he would have that within 24 hours. I know right now most all the Marines lost iPods, running shoes (anywhere from size 9 1/2 to 13; most common being 10 1/2), pillows, etc. Some of those items are more expensive though. So, I will forward the list as soon as I get it. Thanks! Kimberly Anzevino
