My son just flew to the KOP.  He was just in a funeral.  One of their own was hit by an IED.  I am just sitting here praying.  My heart goes out to to all of them.  I am waiting for an address for him.  I treasure his emails and phone calls.  I too enjoy the information I am reading.

Hi Mom! Welcome to you too. I'm so sorry your son had to face such an immediate hardship :( If you read around here, you'll see that there are a bunch of supporters on the Anysoldier site that are very dedicated to helping the soldiers who get posted out there in rural Afghanistan. Same thing applies... see if he'll sign up here... we are practiced at the KOP care package! And we keep em all in our prayers with you! Anytime you want to ask a question, someone here is sure to have had a contact out there in the last two or three years that we can help answer. And anything he shares that you would share with us... well, sometimes we don't hear for weeks too and you can watch us all get anxious with you too. Be sure to check your inbox for a private mssg (pm) i just sent too. Plz stick around! Hugs to you both... Shelly

Thank you for your support.  It has been kind of hard the past few days.  I would love to see the pictures you have of the KOP.  Send them when you can.

    Dianna,

For photos of Afghanistan, you can Google Afghanistan and check images.  Here is a site, though, that has lots of well-done photos of different parts of the country, not just our military:  http://www.bucknercreative.com/AfghanistanPhotoLibrary.html.  More photos here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korangal_valley, but these are more of the militarily active area.

We are glad you are here.

    Hello Everyone,

Wow seems like I've been gone forever. I know this is the new thread but wanted to stop in and say THANK YOU to all of the supporters who supported my husband and his soldiers while out at the KOP.  Your kindness will never be forgotten, by myself, my husband and all the other soldiers out there.  Too many times your packages put a smile on a soldiers face, a tear in their eye, and an extra beat in their heart.  Its not over for me yet but not to long from now and he'll finally be home.  Just wanted to say thanks again...FOR EVERYTHING.  You are such great supporters for the soldier and their families.  I felt like I have made some good friends here on AS and I hope to keep in contact with you all.

Take care and God Bless each and every one of you,

    Angela

    Newbie here,

My son is just leaving Ft Hood tonight heading out to Korengal (at least that is what his APO address says). I was excited to see this blog out there in support of our soldiers and am looking forward to communicating with you all.

I sure understand that feeling.  My son was stationed at Fort Hood.  Now he is in the Korengal Valley.  There was 30 minutes of fire last night.  He said it was intense.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Does anyone have an address.  My son hasn't given me one yet.  GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!!

    Hi Dianna

How long ago was your son at Ft Hood? What company is he in?  The address that you get will depend on that, I hope you hear from him soon.  How long has he been in Afghanistan?

We are new here too and Angela's Chris is my nephew.  (interesting Ang how you came up with momofchris and without even seeing it I signed up as AuntofChris) Chris has three cousins who have him in their daily prayers.  Thank you to all out there who are praying for these men and women that have been shipped away to help others.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan - July 2008 edition

I've edited this post 3 times trying to figure out what is appropriate to say. There are news reports today of heavy fighting ...possibly ongoing... in the province our valley is in. I have searched every map and the Wanat village appears to be about 6 mi north of the actual KOP but still within the area of operations of the 173rd. If anyone hears anything that our guys are ok, will you plz update? In the meantime, they're in my prayers and I'm asking for yours... Shelly

Has anyone learned anything new??? My son was at the KOP until two weeks ago and is now at an outpost in the Valley. I have not seen the name of the outpost in any of the news.

Andrew is in the 1st Infantry..  He just sent  me his email address.  He said there has been some fire fight, but they are doing good.  Let's keep in touch.  All the troops are in our prayers here in Colorado.  He has been in Afghanistan for about 2 weeks.
