    Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan - July 2008 edition

    Hi There,

    I know how scary it is to have our boys out there. I know that Chris has been training for the past 15 months for this tour, I have to believe that the army knows what they are doing by sending them out in smaller groups so they can mobilize fast.

    We did have an address for Chris but just found out from him last night that it changed. As soon as I hear again from him what it is I will send you a private message and we can make contact so I can pass it onto you if you don't have one yet.

    I will continue to pray for all of us to have strength and a calm spirit during this time that our boys are away, and continue to pray for wisdom for our leaders in this war.

    Thank you Angela. Garrett said he would only know Chris by his last name. Let me know so both our sons / soldiers will know we have contact on anysoldier.com. I have my thoughts on the wisdom of our leaders and who pays the consequences.

    Angela I am glad for this site. I am proud of our soldiers. In every way they should have whatever we can give them and whatever they need to make this situation better. Especially love and letters.

    Donna, I don't usually like to speak for others, but I feel I can safely say we ALL agree 100%! {{{hugs}}}

    It may be a little challenging for us seasoned AnySoldier supporters to devote the kind of support we're used to giving, without your brave sons signing up to become official AnySoldier Contacts... out of respect for Marty and the admins of the site we like to follow the rules, as they work so hard to ensure that addresses are up to date and accurate and that the contacts are able to recieve mail, and to protect our heroes' information from those that might use it for the wrong purpose.  I know Marty has a huge heart and I'm sure will understand that some of your boys might not be able to sign up, but that if you were to choose to share their addresses through private message or email, we could support them "unofficially" with the same "support junkie ferver" as we do all of our brave men and women who are serving as AS Contacts.  (Ocassionally there have been addresses posted in these public forums, you may wish to check with Marty for his advice considering the region they're in?)  So I guess we'll be relying on you family members to keep the rest of us posted (privately) as addresses become available and as they may change throughout the deployment.  It would be wonderful if everyone one of them could sign up as AS Contacts!  But of course that might not be possible, since communication there is so inconsistent.  I hate to ask any task of you!  But if I know my fellow "junkies" I think we're all becoming quite attached to your amazing sons, and I know we'll all want to support them and love them along side you!

    I wanted to be sure the new family members are aware there are several contacts whose family members do the updating on the "Where to send" page. This would be a way to get the support for your loved ones within the guidelines of this program and not take what precious little down time your soldier has from his/her family.

    Thank you CWP - that is great information. As soon as I get my son's address and other information I will get him on the list and make sure it stays updated. I have told other family members about this site, but we are all waiting to get our soldiers address. Hopefully we will have it this week.

    Just a reminder, please be careful of the information that is posted here as not all readers are support junkies.  Location information has been removed to meet OPSEC safety criteria.

    We have finally heard from my son Chris and recieved his new address, so his first care package is on it's way. He is going to find out who the anysoldier previous contact was for his outpost, and will find out who is going to carry this on.

    Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan - July 2008 edition

    Angela, that's fantastic! Any soldier in the group can be a contact for any section of the group. If his command says it's ok, Chris can sign up for himself and his squad! Even if someone above is signed up for the whole group! He would just go to the "Soldiers Apply Here" page and send the email. Then he just sends an update to support@anysoldier.com via email occasionally. If he doesn't email for 50 days, he get's a warning to post. That's how the site keeps us assured the addresses are good. And well of course we see that the soldiers who post more often are very popular with the junkies :) Let us know when he arrives!! I'm so excited Big Smile Shelly
