    Hi Tamra,

Go to the top of the page and do a search for guitar.  There have been posts on packing and shipping guitars.  Did you get him an electric or acoustic guitar?

    Hi Vicki,

It's an acoustic guitar.  I also bought a hard case to put it in.  I will do a search when I get home from work tonight...thanks for the advice.

    Hi Tamra,

I have some extra guitar strings that I can send your son.  I looked but did not see him as a contact.  Who is a contact for him? I will look up the address that way.  You can email or pm me if you prefer.

    Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan

    Good morning!

I'm a mom and a retired vet. My oldest son David is in the NG (not been deployed yet) and my youngest son Daniel is slotted for the Korengal soon. His unit just made the official announcement.

I've told Daniel about AnySoldier and asked if he would be a representative. He's told me that he will be going where there's some internet access but no showers (I'm not sure how much I can say because of OPSEC...I figure that description covers a lot of the valley!)

Finding this group and this forum is a blessing. My baby just graduated from Ft Sam as a combat medic at the end of July. He knew what unit he would be assigned to in June, but the deployment to the Korengal was new news to both of us when he arrived at his duty station.

Thank you all for everything you have done for our troops!

Welcome Bekel! We'll keep your sons in our thoughts and prayers. I like your penguin :)

Thanks for the update Dianna, I hadn't heard. DOD says two lost on the 20th. Heartbreaking. But I feel like I won't say the wrong thing at least when I know they have experienced the loss of a friend. Appreciate the heads up. The guys and families are in my prayers...

STL, momofchris and door--thank you for the warm welcome. Smile

The ArmyTimes  made it official today on page 10, so I can say it. Daniel is a combat medic with Attack Co., 1-32nd Inf, 3rd Brigade, 10th Mtn. Oy. They are leaving late this year. I'm getting a lot of ideas from what you folks have done...and I already have an order for a LOT of baby wipes.

    Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan

There is an article in the Chicago Tribune regarding Sgt. Nathan Cox.  His mother made the announcement.  Andrew had the honor and privledge to serve under Sgt. Cox.  Specialist Gonzales and PFC Knight were also part of the fallen.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen.  Andrew is leaving and this is a hard farewell to give him.  My heart is broken but my faith is strong.  God Bless Our Troops.

    Welcome to the family Bekel!

COMMUNICATION IS BACK UP IN THE KORENGAL!!!  I just received an email from my son Shawn yesterday.  The soldiers had to take some stuff off their web pages on the Internet.

    Peace Out,

    Tamra
