Hey there, I just read the post from CPL Ricardo Flemate, this is also one of the guys that Christopher knows. It is nice to see a familiar name.  He mentioneds being wounded, Chris says this guy is a hero and took care of others before tending to himself after he was wounded. Of course they are all hero's but it hits a little closer to home when you hear about this first hand from your child.

    Hi Shelly,

Before you go and buy the down comforters, you might want to read the threads from last winter. I think JoCee was the expert on those.  It had to do with them getting wet and heavy and the smell, if I remember correctly.

Ahhh Vicki! Rookie moment for me! Thanks for the tip.... Man, those threads are long! I found a bunch about the mummy sleeping bags and fleece blankets. I just saw oversized fleece blankets on sale at Kohls, I'll drop by an check out the quality... Does anyone remember if that's the deal? Was fleece the way to go? That is what Kaleb Casey just put on the list for me last week too. My brain ain't on! Angela N, if you see this will you ask Michael?

    Thanks Vicki!!

    Hi Shelly,

I know from my days of backpacking (long ago), that down is only good if you are sure it will not get wet.  Once wet, it clumps together and I can definitely imagine it getting smelly.  Maybe moldy?  I have to go back and read those threads.  I'll ask Jo if she can post a "winter summary" on the active threads (like this) where our guys are facing winter.

I have thought about the down alternative comforters, but not sure.  The men are all asking for fleece...

    Hello all,

Michael said FLEECE blankets work best for size and weight and the possibilty of getting wet. Also...HAND WARMERS and NEOPRENE BLACK GLOVES, the gloves of course can't be too bulky as they need their trigger finger to still be able to move.  I know we got some for him from Walmart I believe for a little over $10 but that was over 2 years ago so not sure how much they are now.  They were neoprene and had a rubber type grip to them on the palm he requested those while at the KOP from my mom in the states.

I hope that everyone old and new here are doing well.  All is well here. The guys are all back to work full force here and the weather is beginning to cool down.  Winter is coming earlier this year than last.  Michael and I will be expecting our 3rd child in about 8 months. :D we are super excited as are the girls.

Take care and best wishes to you all,

    Ang

Re: Korengal Valley ~ July 2008 edition

    Hi again everyone!

    Better mood today.....fer now.  lol

Anywayz, I talked to the kid a bit ago before he went to bed, I asked what would do him and the other soldiers with him any good,reply.....Gloves  w/ removable trigger AND,  I mentioned hand warmer packets, I have used them my self, they are great, last foe hours, and cheap.

My point is this, I would loke to send bulk warmers to KOP for use by our heros when it starts getting cold.

I kinda need some help in this venture as I can BARELY afford to eat.........almost   lol

Anyway, I would like whoever would like to help, to send $$  or in any way help purchase these warmers and we / I can ship them all out ASAP as it will be getting cold very soon.

I have a site saved, they have them for .99  each, maybe less if I/we can bulk purchase them.

    Please let me know ASAP

Bob   AKA ricks dad   thanx all

Wow! Good timing :) Thanx Ang and Michael! And CONGRATULATIONS!!

I've had some luck googling the gloves between 15 and 25 bucks a pair and some say shooter gloves so I'm going to figure out which are the best and I'll post a link when i do. I really appreciate the help! And I'll send fleece blankies.

Bob, I get my handwarmers 32 pair for $13 at Sams and try to send a box with every package when it's cold out. Great idea!

ANGELA!!!!  CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!  What a fantastic blessing!!!!  I'm so happy for you and your family!!!  Wishing you a happy, healthy 8 more months!!!!

I need to check out Costco for handwarmers... if I don't make in Wed I'll definitely head there on Monday.  I guess I might not make October's mail drop but I know it will be cold for quite a few more months and I see there are already quite a few warmers on their way... gooooo junkies!

~Isn't google the best creation ever?  Google it: poof, there it is, just like you said!!!  Now let's just hope if I google "sonic the hedgehog halloween costume" for my off-the-wall sonic-obsessed four-year-old, I will get that very same "poof..."

    BOB!

I have a large box of handwarmers I got a deal on, they were not earmarked for anyone in particular til NOW!  Please send me a PM or e-mail.  I will be happy to get them to your son and his unit.

     Best regards,

    Lilly

Congrats Ang & Michael, what happy news!  Bet there will be lots of little ones by summer!  Hope everyone is doing well and readjusting.   Thanks for the info too,   hopefully will make it to Costco tomorrow and they will have the handwarmers in, last time I checked they didn't.
