Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan
Hello to Everyone,
I just received this sad information on one of our soldiers in the Korengal Valley...I send my prayers to his family, and thank them for his brave service to our country.
Tamra
Dear Blue Spader Families,
It is with great regret that I must inform you that 1-26 IN, Blue Spaders, have suffered the tragic loss of a brave warrior. SSG Derrick Richardson, who was assigned to Alpha Company, died of non combat-related injuries suffered in an auto accident while on leave in Alabama All families have been notified and the Rear Detachment Team is in full support of their every need. I would like to ask that you keep the families in your thoughts and prayers and please respect their privacy at this very difficult time. Currently there will be no briefing scheduled for the Alpha Company Families, and there will be a Memorial Serviced scheduled at a later date.
Thank you,
CPT Wiley
GREGORY W. WILEY

The truly brave man yields neither to fear nor anger, desire nor agony, he is at all times master of himself; his courage rises to the heights of chivalry, patriotism, and real heroism.

Hot Pots 6 - I was thinking one to each place that doesn't have any, and later I can get more and send a 2nd one to each
Tobacco - Dip - 297 tins - Who all has been asking I plan to buy some cigs next week as well
Blankets - 6
Pillow Cases 10
Handwarmers 10 boxes of 40pair
I'll put this on 6/4 CAV and Beans/Bullets as well.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan
Anita! Hi :) I'm sure there's multiple guys who would love all you have gathered. OMG what a care package!! I do know Calvert would love some of the dip, can get it passed out on Vegas and Burkey needs blankets. I think everyone could use hot pots and handwarmers! Awesome..
Hugz, Shelly
ps. Since ur headed over there, Concho Moore over on Beans&Bullets also asked for dip!
**My thoughts and prayers go out to SSG Richardson and his family**

Hi, everyone -- here's an updated, expanded list. I did another search, to include all 1-26 references -- so there are quite a few additional contacts here.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan
kja:soldiersdad - thought you'd like to know that I have my flag out all the time as well - it's sort of a "hand-me-down" from my mother and from her father... He served in Korea (at the end during the restoration process). When I asked her why she kept her flag out all the time this is what she said...
"We have the flag out all the time... during any of the 'hot wars'...because Dad told us that while the men and women were fighting for our country, it is a 24/7 job... not a 9 to 5...with weekends off. Out of respect for those in the military working the 24/7, he always said it was most important to fly the flag all the time, in times of war, to let the military know they are in our hearts, prayers...24/7 :O)
I think it was his way of 'being there' for his military family/friends, during his life, and when he visited us, and realized we had a flag on the Evans Street house, back when you two were small... he relayed the story above... :0) ..."
Thanks for sharing that wonderful story, and the reminder that during all wars all our warriors ought to be remembered 24/7. I never cease to be moved, humbled, and grateful for what I learn here on AS.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan
Nana, I'm not sure if they are in Korengal because they had a strange address, but I sent a box to a Special Operations Task Force the other day and they were asking for dip. I sent four cans of skoal, but I'm sure they would like more. They are in Afghanistan and if you would like their name you can e-mail me at adkins1956@bellsouth.net because I'm not comfortable giving their name or address here for security reasons.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan
I posted this on the 6/4 and decided to just cut & paste to save time & wear & tear on my fingers & brain. Hope you don't mind.

What?? Going to bed so early?? Ladies, really...it's 434am here on the eastcoast...lol. I conked out on my family around 930 pm during a movie we were all watching, but woke up a little after midnight feeling as wide awake as a tree full of owls! What better time to compose a letter to a hopeful supporter, right?
I've got a lead on a fairly influential organization in my area that is taking an interest in our boys in the Valley. I HOPE I've provided them with enough incentive to want to lend a hand. Frankly, I've been a bit disheartened of late with my community. Between the hoops I have to jump through with corporate folks, not to mention the incredible dissappointing outcome with the donation containers I placed around town, I've been a bit down. These folks, though, have lifted my spirits & renewed my energy. I won't know for a few days to what extent they will be willing to help, but at this point I'll take any and all help I can get.
I'm also looking forward to an expected phone call from a doctor friend of mine. He's a former Army doctor so he's well versed on the needs. He's already donated personal cash to sponsor some of the boxes I massed, but now I've put him on the trail of extra medical supplies for Brewer & his guys, as well as for the medics with the 1-26. Even if they don't need anything at the moment, I have a garage...I can keep things in stock. I'd rather have too much than not enough, ya know?
I did finally get the last of my original 30 boxes out...woo hoo! But of course I've been shopping again so I massed another 20...lol. I really do need to move the stuff to the garage...hubby says our living room looks like part Px & part post office!
Today I am taking some ME time to have lunch with a friend. I think she needs a little TLC...she's had a rough go of things this past year so if lunch will brighten her day, then I'm all over it! Besides, any excuse to go to Olive Garden, right?
Ok, I suppose I should get some sleep again. Even the dogs are looking at me with disdain..."come on, Mom...knock out for awhile so we can get some rest, huh?" Poor babies! I think I'll cross-post this on the Valley site too so I don't have to retype..lol
Night night ladies...sweet dreams!
Big Hugs! Ann

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan
Hi Ladies, and Gents<S> Am ready to visit the post office today. After my last visit I stopped in with a basket of chocolate treats for the clerks. They truly were patient and helpful. I have a couple of boxes of "cocoa Hugs going out. And although "meager" I packed lots of smiles into those boxes..along with a great pack of holiday themed marshmellows I found on sale. Thank you for your support in helping me find a way to fit in with this effort. Cheers to All
