I'm trying to get Adams to post an update...but he did say Thin Mints Girl Scout cookies are his favorite Big Smile

He said 1st platoon is pretty set, but they could always use more food and snacks!

The weather at the KOP has been wet, cold and muddy...

ditto.... food requested on Vegas.... and cigs... Kane, Gradick, Longakit (Schmidt and Calvert if u got them before they dropped)

I got GS cookies ordered up for Halase, Schmidt, Calvert and Arroyo. Schmidt and Halase have bigger groups so I'm sure many more would be welcomed Big Smile I got Thin Mints, Samoas and the PB sandwich thingys. Can't wait!!

I sent out 3 large FRB to Longakit today. They had canned soup, chili, beef jerky, beef sticks, emergen-C, multivitamins, assorted OTC cold meds, DVD Pride and Glory. Hope they get there before Spring.

I got a request this week for thermals....I had a heckuva time finding a store in town with them at this time of year! I did finally get them at Joe's---and found out (as many of you may already know) they offer a 10% discount. The thermals were already on sale for 20% off so I took that deal instead, but it was good to know. I typically send just cards with snacks tucked in if I have room, but I couldn't resist a special request for thermals!

Now I get to pray the box gets there before it warms up! lol. Fly, thermals, fly!

I also sent out an FRB to Longakit today - soups, corn, oatmeal packets, mac 'n cheese, protein bars, chocolate, vitamins, theraflu, vitamins and apple juice.  hope all these boxes arrive in the near future!

Does anyone know if Vegas has a microwave or not?  One guy mentioned sending microwaveable things, but on others AS posts it says no micro.

Got 5 cartons of cigs today, and 3 more hot pots, and have 15 cans of dip left so will get that spread around.   Man I'm glad I don't smoke!

Rodriguez sent a note today, he's still in transition and will update AS in the next day or so.     So many of my guys have been changing addresses lately it's getting crazy, hope the packages get used by someone and not sent back if they don't catch up to them, I always put Chaplain on the form.

    Hi Anita,

I know Vegas has at least one microwave, maybe more. They didn't have one in the beginning. Hope that helps!

I sent Jonathan's unit a carton of Marboro and another hot pot, snacks and a bunch of GNC brand protein shake mixes this week.  They must be getting bunches of stuff.  Did anyone see that Wal-Mart now has individual cups of oatmeal (like the hamburger helper)?  The only problem w/those and the ramen noodle cups take up so much room, you can't get many in the "soldier" boxes.

Thanks Joanne, that's a big help.  I have a bunch of EasyMac and Popcorn I can send some to them now.   .

Teresa, I find it's better with bulky light stuff like cup o ramen and the like to go ahead and do a larger box and depending on the price difference sometimes send it parcel post when it's an AE address (I'm in Oregon).  After it hits the military post office I understand it's all handled the same way.

This effects all troups in Afghanistan:

Thanks so much for the links JoCee! Wow.

Everything sent sounds perfect. I sent boxes of canned food to Schmidt, Halase and 1st last week. As far as microwaves, 1st has at least one, Vegas has 2 or 3 and the KOP has access to at least one. Plus i think all have hot water pots now in decent numbers. There are still places some of the contacts have to spend a few days where they have access to nothing but fire. Variety has seemed to work so far for me.... snacks that go in pockets, micro stuff, cans, protein bars & tuna, a lil of each has been well recvd cause apparently it just depends on the day which is best. Hope that helps.

Angela thanks for the link, amazing pics.  I saw a cpl of the guys wearing gaiters that could be the ones we sent!

Just had an e-marl from Kristopher, on R&R, he said the gaiters were great so we will definitely make more for next winter if we still have guys there.
