Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan - February 2009
I haven't asked Bob myself ~ does anyone know if he has mentioned a charity for those of us who would like to make a memorial donation in Rick's honor? Perhaps AnySoldier? Or another military organization...
I am sure that there will be hundreds attending Rick's funeral and I think that flowers may be overwhelming by now.

I just got some disturbing news, I just found out the date, time, and place of ricks service has been put on the net !!!
I dont know what to do now, i really hope the PGR can protect our privacy during this troubling time !
Now i feel very sick, im afraid those unpatriotic piles of flesh will show up, now what do i do ?

Bob,
Again let me say my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss.
Please try and not worry about this issue, this time is about Rick and the Hero he is, do not let them take that from you. Remember the love and support of all of us and many more American's surrounds you. The PGR are awesome at what they do and will take care to make sure you and your family have any protection you need. If you want you can relay your fears to the ride Captain of your son's service and I'm sure he will help reassure you.
Wishing we could all be there...
Much love,
Deborah

Bob, you ARE on the right track.
The PGR and the police are very familiar and very well trained to deal with the scum you worry about.
Please, let THEM deal with the trash while YOU deal with your Warrior. It will work, trust me.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan - February 2009
I'm very glad that sharing my own feelings is helping you with yours. Up until yesterday, I've been virtually sick at my stomach over all this. Since giving myself over to God & the grief process, I'm feeling better, physically at least. You know what else helped me? Watching the interview Bob did for his local TV news. (I posted the link in a previous post) In spite of the pain he's going through, he showed true courage & grace in that interview, & he was inspiring. I just know Rick was watching from Heaven & is very proud of his Dad.
Bob, if you read this, I think you are an amazing gentleman. I hope that in time you will continue to come here & remain an active part of this wonderful group. We love you so very much. I, for one, would LOVE to hear any stories that you might like to share with us about Rick. Someone here made the point of how good it is to keep his memory alive by way of memories & stories & encouraged you to share them with whomever will listen. Well, I daresay you have a loving audience here. I also have an interesting phenominon to share with you. Who do you know that is close to you, that is either going to have a baby or has recently had a baby? The reason I ask this is because virtually everytime I have suffered the loss of a loved one, or anyone else I know who has lost a loved one, there is ALWAYS a baby to follow. My belief is that the one who has passed becomes that new little life's Guardian Angel. So don't be surprised if this should come about for you & your family as well. Personally, I find this to be of comfort. I hope it is that way for you as well.
Big Hugs! Ann

I don't see Rick's funeral on the picket schedule for Westboro ...unless I am missing it. They do list the places they will picket on their website. He is listed on the Patriot Guard Riders site as a pending mission. So I assume you have to contact them and confirm that you want their help and give the details. Of course, once they put the details up on the site then Westboro may put it on their schedule. Westboro may not know about it, yet.
I seem to remember it was going to be in a different state. Maybe that will be too far for Westboro to go with their current schedule.

We can only hope that the misguided group from Kansas will not find it in their interest to travel to the funeral site this time. We hope that the day is filled with peace and love from caring individuals and groups.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan - February 2009
Bob..........
I have talked to you a few times on the chat room and got to know your great concern for Rick. I did not know Rick .....but felt I did through your posts and others that supported him and his unit at the KOP.
My heart aches for you.......as I am a parent......not with children in the military........but I am a parent of young adults.....and I truly am praying daily for you since I found out about the loss of your precious child. I was not able to post or write to you because I didn't know what to say to you.........but I want you to know that you, your family and Rick are in our prayers. I believe (as another person has said) that you have an ANGEL watching you. We have talked about spirituality and I want to share a Bible quote with you......."Cast all your anxiety on HIM because HE cares for you." (1Peter 5:7)
May you find comfort in the loving people around you where you live, your family and your ANYSOLDIER family here. We will be with you in strength and love through this (even if we are not physically there with you). Your AnySoldier family loves you and want you to know we are here for you.
Love peace and many blessings to you...........Anne Marie

Im sorry, I had'nt thought of donations like that however, I truely belive Rick would want rather than a donation to a charity,
To continue the awesome support to his brothers in the valley, untill we win this.
I feel just because Rick is no longer there, does not mean we should stop doing our part in helping our warriors.

Bob,
I will not stop my support until they all come home, rest assured. This link was shared with me by a PGR member from Oregon. Do not worry, they will support you and your family on Saturday. My prayers will be with all of you this weekend.

Do not worry about your family, friends at Rick's service. PG know their stuff. They work very closely with the local officials, the miliatry, and you will have nothing to worry about. Cpt Wiley has said he will let me know when the Ft Hood memorial is scheduled, so I can attend. WE are all praying for all of you during these hard days. Rick was loved by so many people. His comrades in the Valley are making opportunities to tell anyone who will read or has any interest about Rick. You are all loved as much as we can send.

Hi Bob! I'm so happy to see you here. And rest assured, my dear friend, that support will continue. I've already stated that as long as our people are still on their mission, I will continue with mine & I know for a fact that many, many others here feel the same way.
With that said, I wonder if there's a fund set up to help returning injured soldiers? I suppose I could put in a call to Bethesda or Walter Reed to find out. Perhaps we could make donations in Rick's memory. If you wouldn't mind us doing that, that is.
I would like to ask you a sort of silly question. What would you say was Rick's favorite veggie? I'm about to get my garden plot ready for planting & would like to grow a veggie that he liked. I know it sounds kinda odd to some, but I betcha whatever veggie you name, it will probably grow like crazy...lol.
Bob, please don't forget to take care of YOU. Make sure you're eating, staying hydrated, getting enough rest. You are an integral part of this big family we got going here & you already know how much we love you & worry about you. Besides, we know you'd be saying the same thing if this was happening to any one of us. So, please take care of you.
Big Hugs! Ann

Bob,
My son served on the Honor Guard at Ft Hood and escorted several fallen brothers to their rest before he deployed to the Valley. He has personal experience with the PG and says that there are few problems when they are escorts. Those situations have gotten less press and so are less likely these days. Marty said it best when he told you to trust the process. Think about your son and your family, the rest will be fine. Ian says that since they lost Rick, they have been more determined than ever to do the job and come home with theirs heads up, proud of what they accomplished. They made a difference and no one can say they didn't. Blue Spaders.
