I'm wondering whether the boxers started off white and that is why they ask us not to send red colored items (like the t-shirt)?  Oh well, pink works!!

Angela, you do realize that it would be the funniest thing to start sending them all different boxers from different states or whacky ones too!  Can you imagine the look on their faces when they opened up a box of goofy boxers?   I think this whole thing is just too cute and so typical of the guys.  It's like the goofy cartoon sheets that they get to try to outdo each other.

Makes you wonder if an AS Junkie sent him those boxers.  Or those flip-flops.  LOL  I can see the requests now:  "Flip-flops needed for walking to showers, hanging around the CHU/B-Hut/Tent, fighting against the Taliban... "

Korengal Valley, Afghanistan - Memorial Day. Never forget.

As we all enjoy our holiday weekend and bbq’s, time with our friends and families, please take a minute to remember the fallen heroes who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. These men gave their lives in the Korengal Valley and surrounding area in Afghanistan. A debt of gratitude that can never be repaid is owed these heroes, the countless wounded and their families......... “They have left a legacy of freedom, and they taught their children and their children’s children the value of sacrifice, and work, and virtue, the necessary conditions of freedom—and they taught us the love of country. These soldiers have become our teachers, their presence here, and the words and deeds of their lives, remind us of human excellence, of the things for which we stand, of the courage that is necessary to maintain those things. They taught us what it means to be a citizen of the last best hope of earth.” – Peter Schramm, Memorial Day (2004)

Thank you Shelly for that list. Unfortunately I remember quite a few of these heroes from our forum. Broken Heart I hope that we have made a difference in their short lives and that they knew how much we cared for them. That is what motivates me to keep reaching out and sending packages and letters.

That is exactly what has kept me plodding on expending money and strength when I thought I couldn't do my personally set quota of packages; I read what someone wrote a few years ago, and it still rings in my ears, although my memory dims now and I paraphrase it:

You never know when the package you send may be the last glimpse of human kindness one of these people will see (if their lives are cut short).  I don't remember who said it - maybe it was Marty, I don't know, but it has kicked me into action when I thought I couldn't pack another box without some sleep.

That really resonates with me.  That, when it comes down to it, is exactly why I do this - and why, I think, we all do this.
