Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan -
I was wondering the same thing, Teresa! Maybe this is a zip that is getting more troops, or they have just found Any soldier recently? Combat units - that is where my support will go. Even if I have no idea where they are! Kaylynn

It's time to show the world that more of us SUPPORT our troops than don't! If you support our troops then stand tall! And if you don't stand behind our troops, then please FEEL FREE TO STAND IN FRONT OF THEM !!!!!!!!!

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan -
I hope my boxes of cards haven't been a problem....ack!
:( Reading that there are units receiving stuff that's bumping really important things, oh man, do I feel guilty. Last deployment none of the KOP guys had requested cards, but junkies had
said yes yes send to them, so I did; I didn't get much feedback
from them, but sent an occasional box out anyway....and I know they used them because some of you received them. But if you guys hear they
would like cards, let me know; the last thing I'd want to send is
stuff that would be unwanted and take up space they need for important stuff. So I won't pick any of the new guys til someone can confirm they'd like something from me....I can still send envelopes of letters though even if they dont want cards to write home on.
Helping our heroes keep in touch with home..... Operation Write Home

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan -
I think the last group really got a lot of support because of the special report on TV . I don't think that it was typical of the amount of mail from non-family members.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan -
Teresa, I sent ya an email.... Kaylynn yayayyyyy!! with the 3/61 cav thread, glad to assist :)
Diane, im glad you posted that, i hope you're right! I've been fretting it a lil since i saw that post by Bettis. One of the guys on Restrepo posted about recieving "epic edible proportions" of mail after the NBC special.... so i'm totally blaming those guys :) haha Taking the tips to heart tho, if we could get em all to send a good list like that, we'd be set! And hopefully the guys themselves will ask for the morale things they want when they sign up, they always have so far.... including the okie to send those beautiful cards last year Sandy! Shelly

I may be the only person who has not seen this, but just in case read this piece. It talks about the real american heroes, and mentions the Korangal. http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/ajtata/2009/05/13/hollywood-heroes-boots-on-the-ground-report-by-aj-tata/

I hadn't seen that story, but it is no surprise that such heroes are amongst our military

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan -
If anyone is interested, Katz's Deli in NYC www.katzdeli.com has a program started in WWII called "Send a Salami to Your Boys in the Army" which is still going strong today. The APO address does not work in their on line shipping so I called today and spoke with Jeffery, who took my order over the phone. Hard Salami (the only thing they can ship over there) in 1,2, or 3 pounds can be shipped out directly to the guys. Hopefully the guys will be enjoying a slice of the Big Apple in about a week. He asked me if there was anything else he could do for the guys and I said, not unless you can whip up a batch of hot Pastrami on Rye for them. He said he wished he could. Real class act.
Another contact available through the look up, Robert Hull US Army. He will make sure stuff gets to the combat guys.

Re: Korengal Valley, Afghanistan -
I often wanted to send salami or pepperoni but was hesitant because of the pork restriction. I think I saw a story on this deli owner on TV
