    Re: Plate carriers?

Hi everyone, Joshua posted today with some pics!

Also had an e-mail, and Lilly sounds like he doesn't have yours yet.  Said he got 4 in one package, no name on it, and the 2 from me.  At least he think's they are from me, but only because my ltr said they were coming.  Several of us ordered them two at a time so it's hard to know for sure, but I WANT to think they are mine!!  LOL  Just hope they all get there and soon.  Going to try and get some little pocket stoves for this winter too, and they need the rappelling stuff, hydration, etc.   oh my, , , ,

I haven't seen the thread on the ACOG's?  sights, what's it under?

Thanks JoCee for finding a better price on the Talon hydration unit.  I'm thinking of ordering catalogs from some of these outfits to make browsing a little easier.

    Re: Plate carriers?

    Hi Lilly ~

I'm terribly confused now!  I was using the numbers that JoCee posted on 7-27 (p.2, I think).  For USCAV the number was -
    8470-01-517-6329
and for the other sites it was -
    37CL33AU

They were 2.1 lbs and I thought you had said that opticsplanet.com had them for $105.95 with free APO/FPO shipping. Also, that the UsCav website had shown the regular size at $125.95 and the husky size as 145.95.

These are for one plate carrier, were you talking about 2 of them?  Or have I been searching for the wrong thing?  Help!

When I search with those numbers it comes up as listing:
BlackHawk S.T.R.I.K.E. Gen-4 MOLLE Plate Carrier Harness.  Is that different from a vest?  The word "harness" did bother me, but when I read the description it seemed to be what we are looking for.  It said that the "plates" were to be inserted, so I was thinking that they already have the plates, hence the term plate carriers...?

    Please let me know,

    Kaylynn

    Kaylynn,

I should stop trying to multitask, my brain just can't handle it any more.  I DID order 2 from each place and YES, the amounts I gave you in the previous post were for 2 from each order.  I am sorry for causing such confusion!!!  How embarassing...

Mimi, now that my brain has been kick-started, what you are sending me can buy TWO plate carriers with some to spare towards a third.  So the updated plan is...I will order TWO using Mimi's donation, I will order TWO I planned to get and will save the balance from Mimi's donation towards another plate carrier.  I will send two more to LT Rodriguez and two to SSG Carroll.  I am not ordering these til this weekend, will watch this thread, if there are any updates that the LT has enough or I should send to the new guy - Hansen? - instead, will do so.

Again, really sorry for the confusion.  Guess I like to share too much - I was obviously confused myself!!!

    Hi Kaylynn,

I just saw that American Airlines is waiving and refunding the extra baggage charges for the troops.  Must have had a ton of complaints from everywhere.  How could they have called themselves American, if they hadn't seen the light.

    Re: Plate carriers?

    Lilly,

For SSG Carroll you could order these http://www.optactical.com/bliohaarplca.html Blackwater plate carriers instead of the more expensive Blackhawk ones.  He's determined to be as careful with our money (if not more so) as he is with his own.

I've been asking my 20 questions and so far I have: They can always use replacement bladders for their hydration packs.  Both CamelBack and Blackhawk HydraStorm make very good 100oz replacement bladders.  He seems to think that both the CamelBak Talon http://www.lapolicegear.com/cata100oz.html and the BlackHawk HydraStorm STRIKE Cyclone http://www.lapolicegear.com/blhyscy10hyp.html are very good packs. Unfortunately, the BlackHawk ones on clearance that he directed me to were sold out by the time I got off work (and I think the sale price was what was made it the most attractive).  He did make a rather a disparaging comment about the standard issue assault packs ("Our assault packs issued s**k bad"), so I'll be looking at the above packs more closely once I'm more comfortable with the plate carrier issue.  His parents are working on getting the GPS units his men need, so he says he'll be covered there.  His wife is working on getting sheets and blankets to them (but he did not say that was completely covered).

One of the men is craving SunDrop soda but I could not find any at the store this evening.  I'll be driving into town this weekend but ...

Anita  - once you place an order they start sending you catalogs like crazy.  Did Rodriguez give you any specifics on hydration and climbing gear?  By pocket stoves, do you mean the butane handwarmers or ultralight backpacking stoves?

OMG  I think I feel a headache coming on!   That's a lot of sites!   thanks for sharing (I think)  lol

JoCee the little stoves are tiny little guys, can heat up a cup or so at a time, use fuel pellets.  I found them on one of the sites while looking at other equipment, but right now can't remember which one.  I'll look for them again and let you know. Figured they could use them on their patrols this winter.  There's so much they need it's starting to boggle my mind.

There are little stoves called "Esbit" using solid fuel tablets. They are collapsible and easily stored in a pocket. They can boil water. They are available at www.campmor.com. They are made in Germany. Google "Esbit" stoves.

    Dragon,

Funny, funny, funny....now wouldn't our guys at the KOP just love a package with wicker paper plate carriers and chopsticks??  You made me laugh the first time and every time I read it, I laugh again:):)

p.s...this brings to mind the infamous and often requested, but hopefully never sent.... "microwaveable bowels"  :):)
