    CH William J. Wehlage request

CH (MAJ) WEHLAGE has requested a few things in his message today (7/29) that might be good to be coordinated.  I mean how many measuring cups and bread knives can a person use?  Another thing - is it okay to send something as large as a bread knife?  Any thoughts from his supporters?  We only sent him one package up till now because we have to get what we have sent out right now before we buy anything else.

I just thought of something I had forgotten.  We have a spare electric knife in our kitchen drawer.  Can that be sent in the mail?  Thanks if someone can give me that info.

    Hi Gran,

Good question...I did a little digging and found that knives, rifle scopes, night vision binoculars cannot be shipped.  BUT, I didn't get this info from the post office it came from a web site that sells these items.  It might be a good idea to call the post office and ask, I searched the usps web site and didn't have any luck.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

My spouse buys knives a lot from mail order companies. Check with the post office on how to ship them properly though. I think that they have to be sheathed if they are fixed blades just so that they won't cut through the box and injure the postal workers by accident. He gets swords sometimes in the round poster tubes and they arrive all nicely packaged from the mail order companies.

As far as legal restrictions, other than the recipient being 18 or older, I don't know of anything - other than that maybe  local laws might be in the area being shipped to. Check with local attorneys or even a police officer and you may be able to get questions answered on that subject.

Here in our city, you can own whatever you want, you just can not carry it around on your person legally if it is over 3.25 inches but that does vary from city to city thoughout the state, and I do not have the proper knowledge to tell you anything about other state's laws.

After posting, I did phone the central PO number and the person who answered the phone took both our zip codes and his zip code and couldn't find any restrictions to sending an electric knife, which is what I asked him about.  I didn't think to just ask about the bread knife.  He did give me the number of our local PO though, which I thought was weird until I thught about how the various POs are reading the rules differently.

Re: CH William J. Wehlage request

CH Wehlage has posted a new request that may be right down some Junkies' alley.

    08 Aug 2008:
Dear Folks, I've got a plight, and wonder if you could help. We're planning a special 9-11 gathering to inspire our Soldiers. I'm wanting to really decorate the big room in the dining facility we're using. Problem, I'm a quart (maybe two quarts) low on decorations. Patriotic ribbons, and such. But what we would really like is some huge 9-11 patriotic posters. The other complicating factor, is that we need the items here in time for the event, which is a little more than a month or so away. Art.com has some on line and there are others that could ship directly here and probably arrive in time.

Again, thanks for all you do. Special events like this really help our Soldiers to take heart and realized the special purpose for which they've been called to serve.

    Gran,

I would send the bread tool but list it as a tool.

Everthing sent to the states is opened,  nothing outbound is checked,  to my knowledge.

I have some decorations that will be mailed on Monday.  But I could not find the posters.  Any suggestions?

    Mags,

There is a link a few posts up to art.com that has prints in remembrance of 9-11.  These are not posters so they are smaller and higher priced but some are still affordable.

ALERT to CH Wehlage supporters.  He went to old contacts today.

I almost missed him going into old contacts because his leave date was next spring.

Did he go into OLD Contacts  because he hasn't reported in?

One of my troops finally emailed to teh site, but didn't email me directly  that they got their package. Is this common?  I think I've sent them about 5 boxes so far.

     Just wondering

     Thanks

     Amy

    Cheers,

He did post on Oct 7, it is under old contacts. He is rotating out and going back to his home base. How wonderful for him. And how sad for me. I had a box of Halloween stuff packed for him and his troops. I guess that means that I will get to pick a new group to support.

    Amy,

After sending to hundreds of contacts over a 4-yr. period, we have only received emails from a small percentage of them.  We actually have gotten regular PO mail from as many as we got emails from.  Many we never heard anything from.  Some are just not writers, and others have higher priorities, like seeing after the welfare of their troops.
