I got an email from the same Marine (I think). He made the note very personal so I know he had read my letter/card. I looked up his contact information and will be requesting his address so that I can send him something via snail mail in addition to the email reply I sent this morning. Lynne B.

Hi, If you need the details I mailed the cards to Robert A. Wilhelmsen, he is pretty good about keeping up contact when he can. I also got a reply from the swap as well. I got an email from someone that went to my high school, that was pretty funny. He did not know that when he wrote, he just wrote he was from Illinois and we put two and two together. I got lots of freebie stuff at the Chicago triathlon last weekend so he is getting a package with Chicago stuff this week.

Hello....Yes, I too heard from Capt. Robert W. from the card swap. That was VERY exciting. Kinda like when some of you heard from Chris Dunn ---- when I sent him some cards from Swap #2. I still have some cards to send out from swap #3....I've picked up lots of post cards on our travels to Denver (from SC) and will send them to Perfecto Sanchez (someone who requested post cards).
I've slowly been workinf on the next batch of cards for Deni's swap.
well....we're off to Kansas today.....looks like one long deiver across I70............but I have my letter writing to keep me busy....Hope everyone is well

I just got an email from a recipient of card swap #3. It was from SSgt. Craig Carpenter. His unit just replaced another in Iraq. He is not listed as a contact and I told him he should sign up so that he can receive some support from home for his unit. Vicki

Re: ***Card Swap 3 - Due Date August 6th, 2008***
Hi everyone!
This message is two-fold. One to give some advice and one to get some advice.
I had started to notice all of the messages popping up in the last week about people hearing from troops from the previous card swaps, which was exciting. Well, my cousin sent me an email yesterday that I never got, and I decided to check my SPAM folder for the message. USUALLY, once every month or so I just checked the button to delete all of the "SPAM" messages, and don't really look at them closely. It was a good thing I didn't do that today, because I had not one, not two, but THREE messages so far (I'm not done sorting through my SPAM email yet) from the troops!!! I feel bad though. Imagine if I had just emptied that SPAM folder - here these soldiers are reaching out, and might not have even gotten a reply!! One of the guys is from my local area here. WOW. SO, best advice: check your SPAM messages before you delete them because you just might find a few surprises.
Now, on to my need for advice. I've had my yahoo account for years, and a lot of my old friends and contacts have that email address. I like the fact that I can access it anywhere, and it is easy. BUT...the spam is horrible!! I can get an email address through my local cable provider, but if I ever change to DSL, I would lose that address. I like the continuity of being able to have the email address for awhile. Does anyone have any good ideas for free email providers that I could switch to, or any ideas on better managing this spam problem??
Thanks!!!
Hugs from MD,
Dawn

gmail is pretty good. I rarely get junk mail, and it is the addy I use for putting on cards for the soldiers.
google is pretty easy to use.

I too have a yahoo email address but I rarely have problems. First I use 2 different addresses. I use my main one for friends, family and soldiers. Then I use a different one for all commercial stuff, like ordering things or asking for free offers. I also put club type newsletters etc. on that address. I find little spam on my main account. The commercial one gets a lot more but the filter is pretty good on it. I also ask folks not to give out my main address or to add it to forwarded mail. That helps cut it down too. I check the main one daily but the commercial one about once/week unless I am expecting something specific. Soldier messages do occasionally get diverted to spam so I do check that box in my main address when there is a message there. Hope this helps.

Re: ***Card Swap 3 - Due Date August 6th, 2008***
Thanks Heidi and Kathy!
I set up a new gmail address that I am only going to use for personal mail. I'll keep my old yahoo, but try to direct personal email to the new address. By the way, I found ANOTHER email from a soldier tonite when I finally finished sorting through all by SPAM mail. This is the most "soldier" mail I've gotten ever!! It is a nice "picker upper"!!
Hugs,
Dawn :-)

Just to let everyone know all my cards are now out from all the swaps. I meekly admit that some from card swap #3 just went out at the beginning of December. What can I say, I try to find the right contacts to send them to.
