Hello Ladies! Dawn and Lilly, your cards were waiting here for me when we returned from a great trip to San Diego to visit our youngest and her family. I can't believe our youngest grandson is crawling and pulling himself up to a standing position. He's growing so quickly! We enjoyed our time down there.
This will be a long email. I wanted to cover some items of interest.
Sandy - (colourful) - what a blast I had on the planes! For those of you who don't know the story, Sandy takes cards whenever she flies, and comes off the plane with thank you notes written from the passengers for our troops.
On both flights I approached the flight attendants, told them my story about sending monthly care packages and how the troops really enjoy getting cards from home, and asked if they would hand out the cards I had stenciled at home to the passengers who were interested in writing one.
I could hardly finish my spiel before they said yes, and they thanked me. I had a captive audience! On the flight down, the attendant asked me to write something that she could announce over the loudspeaker. Both times the planes were half full, however, most folks wanted to write something.
It is such a neat feeling to know that I gave these folks a chance to connect with the troops. With the ones who wrote their email addresses down, I will re-connect with them once more, and carefully mention AnySoldier.com to them.
On today's return flight, not only did I receive cards from the passengers, the pilot and co-pilot signed cards also! Both were retired military themselves.
Both times I took a picture of the crew, which I will send along with the cards. I also walked off with a big bag of individual packed bags of peanuts, SWA playing cards, and little wing pins for some of the troops to send back home to their kids.
Southwest Airlines is the best!
OK, I'll write more in the next post. Don't want to make this one too long. Just gotta mention the Miramar Air Show that we went to.
The USS Ronald Reagans homecoming to San Diego from the Surge Deployment - April 2007. Proud Mom in law of a NAVY sailor, and a proud supporter of our men and women in uniform.
