    Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan

Hey Everybody, Hope the day has been good to everyone!

Laura, that is my company, but not my Kroger. I wish!!! We are to the point of putting out drop your change for the troops cups at the registers. I may have to send that to my boss! I am taking my camera, tomorrow to take pictures of our "Wall of Heros" one of the girls worked on it while I was on vacation and it is BEAUTIFUL!! Maybe I can get pics to the email addresses I have then we can pass them on.

I found a great deal today on blankets as well. Not as good as $1.99. but these are twin size, vulux, (spelling), for $7.99. I bought 16. Then dropped by K-mart again and guess what, Twin Comforters, $7.50-$8.00. I also found twin sheets at K-mart for $4.90. The price tags said different, $7-$10, but this K-mart is across the street and we all take care of each other, so they let me know that they were cheaper. My West Point Pepperell Outlet Shop is closing.Crying, but I talked to the girls down there today and they are going to collect up all the odd and end stuff and give me a call. She told me that most of the time they just throw it away! So, not sure what I will be getting from them. I did get pillow cases!! Bunches of them, 2 standard, Egyptian cotton 200 ct., $2.39! I bought all I could find. I will need to do an inventory of all the sheets and pillowcases, but I do have 8 comforters, flip flops, size 9-12, 5 pair, $3.00 each, K-mart. I got thermal Tabogans??? (caps) 10. Then the 16 blankets.  I think that is it.

From what I am hearing on the Forum, Eric's group are the ones needing more blankets, caps, and anything to keep them warm, Am I right about that?  If anyone has heard different please let me know. I am going to get this stuff in the mail, ASAP. I can not bear any of them being COLD! Ok, after this book, I guess I better get off of here. I was just so excited about finding some of these great deals, I couldn't wait to tell you guys. We'll co ordinate if you like and make sure all get spread around.

God Bless Each and Everyone of you, my Friends!!

Hello everyone. Michael sent his request to AS yesterday but since it hasn't posted here it is. Of course we are 5-7 hrs ahead of you all so I guess Im just ready to get it out! ha ha

things we need or would like to have being that it will be geting cold.

1 canned goods are always a welcome.  anything other than MREs..lol
soups, chef boyardee, stews, chilli, noodles
2 black gloves, socks, blankets are always welcomed.
3 small electric heaters that we can hang from the ceilings out of the way
4 movies - old, new, comedy, horror, action, (if on "digits" it would be great)
5 portable harddrives(the ones that are powered by USB, so we dont have to use a plug in    source) - we share alot of movie, music, videos between one another.
6 GARMIN - GPS systems. (10 on the team, will take what is given)
digital cameras - SD card (10 on the team, will take what is given)
8 laptops - i know of some people getting these before.(just a wish item) (10 on my team, will take what ever can be provided)

seems like alot but i know that in the past and even now people are pushing these type of things out to the soldiers.  i hate asking for things and i am truely happy with what we do get.  i think it is an awsome thing the supporters are doing.  i just feel as if i ask for things like the above mentioned, folks will feel we are trying to take advantage of them.  truely that is not the case.  these are just some things that would make the boys time go by better.  i put them in order as far as importance.

He said he has received a few water kettles that is the talk of the KOP they love them. And sheets, he said he got 3 boxes of sheets. He passed out all of them and then he had a few extras left so he gave them to the Afghan workers there that have been helping to build the KOP up to everything it is today.  He figured since they are the ones that have fixed their hooches, gave them showers and electricity the least he could do is give them a few sheets to stay warm with!  He said their faces lit up like a kid in a huge candy store! ha ha  He has received lots of packages he said but he said that to be honest he doesnt stop to write down what he got and from who. Because all the boys are already waiting for their "shipment". So he unpacks them and repacks them ASAP.  He enjoys giving to the soldiers all that he gets.

A few things he also mentioned. Any type of knives, flashlights, gerbers, eye protection is always a good thing to get to.  Of course he knows some is contraband and others are expensive but he said if any of you have anything laying around or if you found it in a garage sale they don't care LOL

Thank you again for all of you for sending stuff to the boys. My husband called this morning and sounded great. He found out he made the selection for E7 now we just have to wait til March to see if he makes it!! wooohooo keep your fingers crossed!  But he said the boys are doing better, that everyone is trying to get their heads back together and get over all the shock of it all. But they are trying. More mail was supposed to be coming in this week and he said he knew that would brighten up their faces. Thanks again,

    Love to you and yours,
    Ang

    Hi Renae & everyone,

Steven J. Fuller, KOP, needs blankets too.  There are so many guys there that need blankets.  I can't find any here for less than $8.99 and I am really tapped out.

The last time I found a deal on blankets I bought 2, $5.00 each & sent them to Justin.  He should be getting them this next mail drop.  I just sent him some Hamburger Helper singles (thanks for telling me about those Angela) & some canned meat.  I hope to send him some Red Bull this week too.  I bought 16 cans, but one got punctured.  That stuff smells nasty, I don't know why the guys like it so much.  Lots of guys are asking for gloves too.  Angela, would just plain old knit gloves do any good?

    Love to all,

    Sharon

    Hello to all,

It's been a while since I posted, but I have been monitoring the site.  Walmart in our area has twin blankets for $4.88.  They are nice weight.  They also have had a few throws for $3.88 and the extra large throws for $4+ (can't remember exactly).

Walmart also has the individual servings of rice that is new.  I am not sure who puts them out but they look good.  That with a can of Blue Runner Red Beans or Navy beans would make a good quick meal.  Blue Runner is a brand we have down south that is quite tastey with seasonings etc.

I share all of your frustrations when I think about how big the needs are but guys, have you ever sat down and counted what you have already done?  Try it.  It will make you feel better.........# of letters written, # of boxes sent, postage on the boxes as well as money spent on what was in the boxes.  We are doing all we can possibly do.  One thing though is to get the word out more, maybe that is what I need to do more of; pass out those anysoldier cards, etc.  I am going to post one today on our office building information board for starters.

Hello Sharon, cheap knit gloves would work also because they can still and will put their leather gloves on top of them. ALso depending on how cold they are in their hooch they may just sleep w/them on! ha ha

Krewe Captain, is right ladies.  You all have do so much.  I know that financially around the holidays you may not be able to send as much but remember all that you have sent! And the wonderful smiles you all have put on those boys faces!  My husband said giving those packages out to the boys is such a good feeling knowing he's helping them in that way too. So I THANK YOU for giving my hubby that warm fuzzy feeling inside! Wink

I wish you all the best and thank you again for all that you have done!  The soldiers and their families appreciate it all more than you will ever know!

Love to you and yours! Ang

    Hi Ang,

Thanks for posting your husband's request (it motivated me to register for the forums so I could respond instead of  just reading everyone's posts). I'm relieved to hear that the boys are doing better.

I can probably help out with a couple of digital cameras, SD cards, photo software, etc. Do you think they'd have use for a compact photo printer (it makes 4x6" prints)? Of course, I'd include ink and paper.

It will take me a while to get the equipment together but I hope to ship it out within the next week.

    Hi Brit,

I'm so happy to hear that Justin is doing well, and sorry to hear their microwave got hit by a motar round :(  Thank God it was the microwave and not one of them though.  It's sweet of you to send them a replacement, and all the other items you're sending them.  So you like Red Bull too huh?  I know my daughter's boyfriend loves it too.  Do you by any chance know why Justin hasn't posted on AS?  Tomorrow will be his 50th day.  I've sent nagging emails to him so they don't recommend we don't send stuff to him, but to no avail.

    Thanks.

    Hugs to all,

    Sharon

    Sharon,

i'm not sure why he hasnt posted on AS i thought maybe it slipped his mind but if you have reminded him i dont know... i'll mention it to him also. i knew it had been a while. he said he was off to an OP for a few days so he still might miss the 50 day cut off. he's still there though, so no one has to stop sending things! :) i just had to get them a new microwave asap, i know they look forward to eating ANYTHING but MRE's. red bull works best with vodka, its a shame we cant send that too (HAHAHA). i ordered some flash drives for the guys too and i'm mad that i paid extra for 3 day shipping and this is day 5 i havent seen them yet. i'm calling the company today to see whats going on.

    Anika,

GOOD FOR YOU!!  I am so jealous that I can't send digital cameras and things like that.  I'm glad that you are able to do that for "our" men at the KOP!  I know they will be THRILLED to death.  :)

    Hi Brit,

If you paid extra to have it there within 3 days and it isn't, demand that they give you a credit.  They didn't keep their end of the deal, so they broke the "contract" and have no legal right to keep the extra fee you paid.  Good luck.  Flash drives?  I'm sure they'll love them.

    Take care.

    Hugs to all,

    Sharon

    Hi Brit,

If you paid extra to have it delivered to you within 3 days, and it wasn't, they owe you a refund.  DEMAND it.  They breached the contract & owe you your $$ back.

Good luck.  I'm glad someone here has heard from Justin & knows he's okay (his head that is...I knew the body hadn't been injured).

    Hugs to all,

    Angela,

HI!  I do have some canned fruit I could send, some rice, oatmeal, spaghetti o's (2 cans, 1 pound a piece!), some ravioli...I'd be more then happy to send them over to your husband.  :)  Can you give me your last name so I can request his address?  I have sent a TON of stuff to Eric and will be more then happy to share the wealth!  I've also got some hot cocoa and hand warmers I could send.  Just let me know!

    Thanks!

    Hi, Everyone,

Just wanted to say hello and let you know I'm still out here packing up boxes for KOP!  One of my nieces has been ill for quite some time, so I've made several trips to Tulsa to help out.  She was recently released from the hospital, still with no diagnosis, but I'm back home now...again...and I've been out today looking for deals on down comforters and duvet covers.  Can't stand the thought that any of these guys are cold, and I'm thinking it's SOOO cold there now that down comforters may be the only thing that will warm them enough to get a good night's sleep.   I'm sending a big electric skillet filled w/ food to Michael, Angela's hubby.

Take care, everyone.  Our KOP guys and their families are having a rough time, which weighs on all of us. They gut it up and move forward, and so shall we!   Thanks to everyone for pulling together to be sure our Soldiers are warm and have food to eat...we could never do enough to repay them for what they do for us.

    Hugs to all,

    Brenda
