Hi Angela. Just wanted to wish you and the other 173rd folks in Italy a Happy Thanksgiving. I had a great meal with family and friends today, but my thoughts kept going to the Korengal Valley.I hope our paratroopers had a good meal and were able to have a day of peace and rest. I also wanted to make sure that you and the other wives in Italy understand that as much as I admire the paratroopers I also have you women on my list of heroes. The guys are deployed to Afghanistan, and the wives are deployed in Italy.I salute you and your families and admire your strength and courage. God bless.

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan - holiday wishes

    Hi Ang,

I've tried to send you a PM a couple of times now, but I see it's not going through.  Anyway I was telling you how much I hope & pray you & your children are having a good Thanksgiving even though I can't imagine how difficult it must be without your DH there.

Also wondering why you've removed your pic?  I honestly hope & pray that everything is okay and REALLY wish I could send a PM.

    Take care Hon.

Love & Prayers to you and yours,

    Sharon

Hello Everyone! I hope all of you had a Wonderful Thanksgiving!! I know I did, I had to work, but myself and some of the girls at work spent until 2:00 am this morning putting together packages!! What a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving!

A wonderful lady sent me a pm and I just jumped out of my chair! I think she is on to something. I am going to post part of her email and then my response, below. Again I hope all of you had a Great Day and Thank each and everyone of you for what you do everyday!!

    Love ya all!

    Renae

Can you message me back with, or please consider posting the address/contact of the person you deal with that authorizes giving $$$ for postage and other donation drives?  I would like to send them a Thank you card, because they are making wonderful human decisions for a corporation, and because a few personal thank you's from the junkies around the country might help further the cause.

If that isn't an option, maybe we could just send them to you and you could forward them on?... Thanks for all you do.

That is a wonderful idea! I had never thought about that, but if they had cards coming from all over, it would possiblily get all of the Kroger names involved. WOW! Wouldn't that be great!! We have 2,400 stores all across the country, under many different names! I think the best route would be to send to me. I know that my address is public. I am not sure that they would get routed to the right person if sent to corporate.

    Renae Slater

    THE KROGER CO.
    1365 W. WALNUT AVE.
    DALTON GA 30720

This is the address of my store, then if I got enough of them I would request another presentation in front of all of the executives and just hand them out!!! Several have told me that if I had just "passed the hat" after my last presentation that they would have given money for postage!!

You are on to something Sara! There are funds for every store to do what we did at our store. We chose to use our money as postage instead of other things for the community, but we included our community!!

This would be GREAT! If you do not mind, I would like to post a part of your email and then give our address for this purpose. It could make such a difference, if Corporate knew how many people out there recognize Kroger for doing this!

Hello again everyone, Okay so because of stupid people (not on AS) I took myself off of this site.  I have come to realize however I'm not going to let their stupidity get me down.  I am here to help out the soldiers and if some people don't like that well they know what they can do with my foot! ha ha

Soooo..... I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING!!!  The girls and I had a good meal w/friends. It was different and felt like a normal day but oh well atleast the girls enjoyed it.

As for the boys, they had a wonderful meal.  My husband said they had, turkey & ham with all the fixings, even apple pie...ha ha thats my husbands only dessert he eats!  So they are doing well with a hot meal in their tummys til Christmas.

Thank you again for all your continued support.  I may seem a little different on the forums but I promise to all of you that I will do my best to give you any ideas that are sent my way from my hubby.

Love to you and all of yours, me

    Hi Ang,

Aww Hon, I'm so glad you're back & that the guys got a decent meal.  That's good news!  :)

Regarding stupid people....don't let them do anything with your foot Hon, they may not have had all their shots yet & Lord knows we don't want you coming down with anything.  Those type of people may want to cozy up to a huge bull elephant and see how its butt tastes though.

All my love to you & yours & prayers always,

    Sharon

Ang, the thought that any stupid people could find their way to make your job any harder P*^*^ES ME OFF! Angry You and the other families are the backbone and hearts of our soldiers and I think I feel ok speaking for most of us here that we stand behind you and your soldiers 100% and I'm glad you're back. We're here to support you and yours, so I'm really glad you shared with us and if there's anything I can do or words of support you could use any time, you know where to get em.

AND!!! I have an awsome story to tell today!! I went to my local post office today to mail a holiday package off to one of my contacts and guess who was standing right next to me??!!  (I evesdropped off her package : ) A KOP MOM!! Right here in my town! I chatted her up and told her about AS and she said her son is at one of the outposts until Sept 08 and has been adopted by people locally at Energizer and when he was in town on leave, he went to visit them. I told her how much support there is and how appreciated the soldiers are that I'd keep her son in my prayers too. (Her son isn't an AS contact, I looked for his name. But still VERY cool to meet her and her flat rate box : )

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan - holiday wishes

I'm glad you're not letting these (stupid) people get the better of you, angela.  Speaking of them...I had emailed all my friends & family, etc a few times about AS.  They all know I have been doing this for a few months & had never really come up & said, "oh, hi, I'll help you!"  So, i thought that they just weren't aware that they could.  I had really good feedback.  My family's mostly in California & the Pacific Northwest, but i did get a few checks from them, even after I told them they could "adopt" on their own.  I make it a point, when writing to my guys, to include, "and part of this care package is possible due to the generosity of..."  However (this is where the stupid people come in), there were a couple of friends here that disappointed me, big time!  They did check out the AS (forum & site) & one of them made a snide comment like, "Gosh, you guys sound really obssessed!!"  That kinda ticked me off a bit, then i thought, ok, I may be a bit..I worry about my guys welfare, almost as much as I worry about my kids', so I'll give her that.  Then she said, "well, it's not like they're fighting everyday, all the time!"  I sent her an unprintable (here), scathing reply back.  I didn't hear back from her, but she did talk to my sister-in-law & told her she thought it was "weird" that I would send to total strangers & (this will crack you guys up..in a not-funny, but rather incedulous way-I never realized how much of an idiot this person was!!) she told my SIL, "I mean, these guys will know her address...and what if they come back from those countries & find her & go psycho on her?!?!?"  (HUH!?!??)  My SIL at that point just mumbled something & ended the conversation (they were at Kroger's..she was on an errand for me..they had slash down sale on the Compleat Meals & the Chef Boyardee raviolis).  I tried calling her to tell her that she was a total twit, but she never picked up (damn caller ID!!)..so i just left a lovely message, ending it with, "...now, if YOU would forget my address, i never realized YOU were a loony until now.."  My hubby thinks I should leave it alone..and I have..after that message. Wink  The funny thing is, she had still sent me a few forward emails after that..until i blocked her. lol  Now, the other person I heard from who was somewhat negative (I thought, anyway) said, "It goes against my moral belief to support any war supporter."  I didn't even want to bother with THAT one.  I figure, as long as I don't hear her talking to other people about AS, the soldiers, in a bad way, I didn't want to even get into a quasi-ethical-political-stupid discussion with her.  Besides, her sister sent a box. LOL

I am finding out, since I started sending out care packages, that there are people I thought I knew, but never really did.  It's amazing how stupid people blend in..and seem to be just like everyone else.  I find that it's best not to let their negativity take from me.  Again, I'm glad to have you here, Ang.  Sending you prayers from my family to yours.

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan - holiday wishes

It always amazes me how alot of people go about their daily life like nothing else is going on in the world.  Everyone who knows me knows I'm really involved with the troops.  Some tend to ignore it, others say let me know how I can help.  I work thru another program for Xmas, this year taking on 200 Marines in Iraq, plus I sent Xmas to 3 different Plt. in KOP and the merchants know to expect me!  They are very helpful though.

I have many friends that plan on giving me $ every year to help with mailing, and they helped with fundraisers over the summer, etc.  Can't seem to get them into mailing themselves, but I'm working on it.    It's hard to explain the compulsion I have to do this but I know I need to.  Even in the Viet Nam War I sent things to the troops, not on this scale because it was harder to get contacts, but still have some sweet letters and pics from those boys.

Some of my guys have said they will look me up if they get to Oregon and I sure hope they do, don't think I have to worry about them 'going pyscho on me' either!!!

Don't you know, I think the one going "psycho" would be me!!!!  I would be so happy that one of my guys was back safe and sound and coming to see me?!?  Wow.  I have had one guy go through his tour and he is home now.  We still talk and when he gets married next year I sincerly hope to attend the wedding.

Aphrodite, aren't you just amazed at the responses of people?    I have been very lucky that I the people I talked to about it have been very supportive -- of course, I didn't bother my family bec. they're all too annoying -- no, no, I'm JUST KIDDING!!

It's hard to be nice though and just tell youself, everybody is different, everybody has their own opinions.  (Of course,  this is after I've told them VERY FORCEFULLY what MY opinion is.)  And then smile and say, "Y'all have a nice day now!"

Well, I do understand obsession and compulsion, and I would never call anyone stupid because they don't understand or choose to share mine.  I am just grateful to have found something that is meaningful to me and that I enjoy doing, and I hope they have found something equally meaningful and enjoyable for them.
