I love the smell of a good cigar.  The aroma wraps around one and lingers for days like the memory of a warm embrace.  I like to think that it overpowers the stench of sewage canals, latrine maintenance and other smells with worse connotations.

How true!  My son does not smoke but he enjoys the fact that the aroma from those who do camouflages some of the unpleasant smells....(especially since his sleeping can is right next door to the other type of "can")......

Well, I personally think cigars stink...lol  Perhaps I've never smelled a good one, though...lol  I DO, however, LOVE the smell of pipe tobacco...but no one smokes pipes anymore.  Too bad.  Philosphically I am opposed to anyone smoking as I know how deadly it can be [I went through the Hell of my Mother's agonizing death from smoking.], and I think chewing tobacco is gross, but I would never deny any of those wonderful young men and women defending MY life and the freedom of others a smoke if it helps hem.  If it gives them pleasure and relaxation then I will offer it as a gift for those who would appreciate it, just as I would send junk food if requested, or comic books, or spiritual reading material.  Everyone is an individual.  It is not place to judge.  Let's hear it...Any pipe smokers out there?

    First -

Congratulations Lisa and Rosemary and Thank you both for fighting on!

Second - Thoughts on sending cigars -

I thought a while before posting here, controversial topics and allJ . Not that I’ve ever been one to back off but age has brought a caution and thoughtfulness that was not present in more youthful timesJ

As a lifelong smoker, a near fatal illness cut short what would have been a permanent addiction to tobacco. Fear - not will power - has kept me off cigarettes for 15 years - no credit to me - quit the day I was admitted to ICU - they don’t let you smoke near oxygen tanksJ

So why send cigars to the Troops -

Some of my contacts like cigars and some like tootsie pops(big box, good price at BJs).

With the exception of one night early last spring, when sleep eluded me due to residual effects from time spent on a respirator, and I seriously questioned the wisdom of sending tobacco as night became day, I, nevertheless, still do send cigars, cigs, chew or dip to contacts.

Besides the fact that I don’t figure it’s my place to tell others how to live their lives-

Thanks to those very contacts to whom I send the stuff - we live in a society where all are FREE to make their own decisions.

God Bless America and God Bless Our Troops!

    Ann

PS - sure wish I could smoke one with ’emJ - but alas - that door is now closed forever!

In addition to the fact that I love the smell of a good cigar - must be the Uncle I followed around by the smell of his cigar when I was a kid:) - , there are some that are excellent substitues for bug sprayBig Smile

    ga_junkie,

How funny that cigars and cigarettes have become air fresheners!!!  I would probably feel the same way, if I had to live and sleep where your son does.

Tell him thank you from me.

One of my SNCO's out here smokes a pipe, though he doesn't bring it out that often, he would appreciate a small bag I know that, I am also a cigar lover and enjoy a good deep medium-full bodied cigar in the morning or evening when we get some time off work, along with several others in my shop, we have a good contact back stateside who hooks us up with some good deals but we always appreciate more so we can spread the wealth.

     Hey GreenTheMarine,

Thanks for your service!  Specifically mentioning brands & types of cigars helps the "cigar challenged" folks like me make sure we get the right kinds of cigars.

     God Bless,
