Re: Re:Tour Schedule for Mr. Beck Again..Let's do this for AS..And Marty!!

    Hey Everyone,

Well since my meet with Mr.Beck, I must say I have been overwhelmed with the book it self.  I read it cover to cover, and it truly is a heatbreaking story.  Makes me want to meet him again and give him a hug!! I did also buy a DVD, and he is a pretty funny guy.

I have been getting his newsletter, and keeping up with his tour.  This morning his news letter said he has remebered certain people. He said he is compiling a list. So maybe AS will be inculded with that.

I would like to re-post the dates of his tour as I have found not many really knew about it on the chat.  And the more people we can get the better.  And like I said the book it self is very heart warming.  I couldn't put it down.  So here is the list again so that we can get other's that didn't know about it can join on in.

Heidi,Kaylynn and Bea.. Every little bit count's.. Letter's from contact's I think are great!! Picture's and so on!! "Go Girls Go", Guy's as well!!!

    Take Care

    Betty

Re: Re:Tour Schedule for Mr. Beck Again..Let's do this for AS..And Marty!!

I was wondering if there were any junkies out there that were thinking about going to the Richmond book signing at Books-A-Million this Friday, Nov 21st??  I just received an email today from that Books-A-Million with a $2.00 off coupon for the book, and information about the signing.  The email said that you can arrive at the store at 9am to get a number.  The actual signing starts at 4pm.

I called the store and was told that they had been getting calls from all over - "as far away as North Carolina and DC".  She said that they have been getting so many calls they are wondering if they ordered enough books.

I live about an hour and half away from there, and already have some appointments for Friday, so I'm not sure I'll be able to go.  I would be glad to forward the email w/ coupon to anyone that might be able to go.  Just email me through this website.

I would love to hear from anyone that plans on going!

    Hugs,

    Dawn

OK I just sent a couple of cards and emails to Glenn asking him to have a book signing in  Ky so I could bring him a home made carrot cake. I'm feeling left out here reading about all the "adventures with Glenn" a couple of you have had. And now he 'remembers' certain people?!?  Of course it is YOU TWO!! Yes, Betty and Kathy, I am jealous and want to compete for his attentions with my carrot cake! LOLOL  You ladies are my HEROES and now I can't wait to see what Heidi comes up with (no pressure here Heidi! lol) You all rock and Dawn I hope you get to go to the book signing. Wish I was close enough and I would go with you! Thank you everyone who is participating or cheerleading! Thanks Kaylynn and Bea!  It all helps and Marty will be a TV personality soon!  fingers crossed ;-))

    hugs,

    Ronda

    Ronda,

Betty is the true hero here.  I am sure that he would not even recognize me from anyone else but I think Betty (proudsister) was able to make a personal connection.  Now he may remember the chocolate cake.....but not me.  But that is fine.  I just hope that he responds to Marty.  I think it would be fabulous if he had Marty and Betty on his show!!!  And good luck Heidi.  He seems like a very nice man and has a great smile in spite of the grueling schedule.  So enjoy the moment!

Wow, Heidi, you have to go to the book store twice and wait in line?? Sheesh, hope it isn't raining or cold. Is it? And definitely take food and water to get you thru the lines! lol Good thinking there! Wow, so they are selling hundreds of books at these signings?? Glenn should be able to afford a good donation to Marty when he meets him! Idea  And yes, Kathy, I do believe he remembers Betty and definitely she made an impression on him. BUT maybe he remembers her also because of your anysoldier cake earlier in the day? From one who is called "the carrot cake lady", believe me, they remember the food if not the person! lol  I'm thinking Betty may hear from Glenn when he gets some time. Hear that Betty! I think you have a fan there!  Well, you all are wonderful for standing in line to get Marty something he has been interested in for  years, so that makes you special in my book. Thank you!

    Hugs,

    Ronda

It will be cold. Supposed to be down to the low 30's or high 20's tonight. It will not be that much warmer by 7 or 8 when I get there to wait for the number! I sure hope I don't have to buy a book, I already have it!  If I do, I will get him to sign two, and give one to my mom or something I guess. I fully expect to hear positive feed back in the form of Marty on the air after all this!! Stick out tongue

Will let you all know how it goes!  Am taking a thermos of hot chocolate with me in the morning!

They should have  hook ups for electric blankets for you brave souls! You ladies are truly the spirit of AS....you take your calling seriously to support our troops/AS no matter what the weather is!! Just like our folks in the Military! You all ROCK and I wish I could be in line somewhere too! Maybe they will add a signing closer to me before it's over. It is 18 degrees here right now( 1am) so I feel sorry for you tomorrow. BRRRR.....Take lots of HOT HOT chocolate!! DO let us know how it goes! Stay warm! Hope you get one of the first tickets!

Re: Re:Tour Schedule for Mr. Beck Again..Let's do this for AS..And Marty!!

Ok, the drama of the day is over! It started at 7:15 am, 34 degrees, me and 3, yes just 3 other crazy people stood in "line." By 8am about 5 other people showed up, and then they started a steady little stream, so that by 9am when the store opened there was a line, I suppose about 50-75 people. I got in, got my ticket, and left. Went to get my hair cut, ate with my husband, and went home to thaw out. I couldn't feel my feet! SO I took a nap for a couple of hours, then got up and got ready to go the the store for the actual signing. He was supposed to be there at 5:30, so I got there at 4. They were not going by your ticket number, per se.  If you had a ticket with 1-50, you were in the first group.  I was number 4.  So, anyway, we all waited, and at 5:00 they finally started getting people into line. I ended up about 10th in the line of 50.  5:30 came and went, and no Glenn. Then our local radio guy came out and said that he was running late, but was on the way, they hoped he would be there by 6:20 or so. By 6:45 he made it.  He talked for about 5 minutes, and they started the signing. It was, give the handler the book, he scribbled in it, shook your hand and you were pushed along. I think there was 2 seconds per person. I basically threw my letter to him and saw him put it in his pocket. then I was out.  I think there might have been around 600 tickets given out, they were still handing out tickets when I arrived at 4.

So, the good news is, he has my letter in his pocket. I hope he reads it! If he does not ask Marty on his show after the day I had, I want to know the reason why!!!!!

Now, I am going to eat food and go to bed. I will try to sneak in to the card swap chat, but not sure if I will make it. I have to work tomorrow...

However, we just found out one of our football players was named one of two Rhodes Scholars!!!!!!Yes   That just made my day. His mama is in the stands and she just has this wonderful smile on her face. How proud we all are of him.

Hello frozen Heidi! Who is the football player who is the Rhodes Scholar?? How awesome! Congratulations to FLA!! You are right, after all the time you ladies have spent to get a letter, cake, folders and pics to Glenn, SURELY he will get Marty on his show for a minute! When he GETS his new show, that is. He is off CNN and hopefully he will be on his new FOX show soon. Wow, is he ALWAYS late?? Geewhiz, it's too cold to be having all your fans waiting that long outside, AND inside! Glad you got that over with. Did he actually LOOK at you? I hope he at least acknowledged you?  What did you say in the letter? And did you give him the cookies (and milk? like Santa! lol)? Or did you have to eat them yourself because of the LONG wait!  lol Was anyone else handing him letters or stuff? I do hope all this attention gets Marty a slot on one of his first shows! fingers crossed and still writing letters and emails! Thank you for your dedication to this project and I really think it will work because of all the "face time" you ladies have given. THANK YOU  THANK YOU ALL!!

    Hugs,

    Hey Heidi,

Thank You for standing in the cold, and making your way in there..Wow..Put the letter in the pocket..Hummm Now that's a connection!! I seen many people with gift's in line while I was there, and Poor Kathy's Cake was taken by the Beck crew.  I hope he was able to get to it.  If it were me I would have plowed into it while signing..LOL  I had read that Mr. Beck thought his staff was trying to keep him from the Dutch Chocolate Cake by booking him in so many book signing tours too close.. Poor Guy!!!

I was so glad to be able to hand my folder to him and make that connection, as he was holding my hand so tightly as I was aking about his Nephew, while being pushed along.  He had his hand just about in back of him as I was going around.  He was holding so tight.  I thought that it maybe hurting him.

Everyone that is doing this "Rocks",  I don't know about me getting on his show..I wouldn't know what to do..Although the people who know me. I am a funny girl.. But Marty is the one who needs the recognition as well as his family!!

All of you amaze me with your support to our Troop's!! And without The Horn family and their sacrifice's to keep AS going, where would AS be today?? I am glad to be a part of AS and the wonderful people I have met.  Some go way beyond and never want anything in return. What true Hero's here!!!

    Take Care

Re: Re:Tour Schedule for Mr. Beck Again..Let's do this for AS..And Marty!!

    Good Morning

Our newest Rhodes Scholar is Myron Rolle, he is a 22 year old safety for the Seminoles. Here is link to the announcement:

     http://www.fsu.edu/indexBOFStory.html?lead.car.rolle.rhodes

I can't tell you how proud we all are of him. He is like one our own kids, and I was litterally dancing around the house when they announced it. I was glad I didn't find out at the signing, I would have been dancing in the aisles.....*G* might have made an impression on Glenn or his handlers!

I was able to shake Glenn's hand, and he does have a nice strong grip.  He said in his little talk that they were predicting 100,000 people to lose their jobs and that there wouldn't be anyone left to talk about things because people like him would be off the air.  Then he started signing the books.  He did say that this book had to be written because he couldn't do it live anymore, it was too emotional for him. I am about half-way through it, and it is very emotional. But I didn't get a chance to actually say anything to him. Other than "can I give this to you? Thanks!!" as I am being pushed along.

I didn't make any baked goods. I wish I did! I feel bad, I would have liked to have given him something.

    Well, lessons learned.

Did anyone make it to the Panama City signing?  He must not have gotten there until 10pm or so!  I am going to followup my letter to him with an email this week, just so he doesn't forget about it!

    Heidi

You folks up in Indiana are up next, I think. Is anyone going? Great fun and met some really fun people standing in line.
