Re: Soldier asking for post cards

Heidi - I send postcards both ways - sometimes I put several in an envelope and sometimes just mail one at a time. They seem to make it okay and are mostly readable - I have gotten responses that indicate they have read something on a card I sent.

Sometimes I send blank ones so they can write home on them as well. I have gotten a few  self-address postcards back from contacts that have survived the trip well (okay maybe they were a little dusty from the sand, but I could still read them!).

    Hope this helps!

Bye the way, I scored a huge packet of postcards at the thrift store today for  95 cents. I saw some TX, NY, Taos NM, Las Vegas, and Disneyland in the package so I will send those out to the contacts.

Whoah...When the Longhorn SSgt opens my "Aggie box" I hope he is kind enough to pass it on. Oh, those poor Aggies who are with him. I'm sure they are hearing  "Hook 'Em Horns" a little too much. Wink

Kicked off some to Hudson today - 1 vintage Wisconsin, 1 vintage Mt Rushmore, and a modern Huntington Beach CA - that I found in that pile from the thrift store.

Also sent a Disney one to Sanchez - a Donald Duck cartoon.

Threw a few more in the outgoing mail to some of my regular contacts too - used up all my postcard stamps I had so I will have to get back to the post office sometime soon.

Just mailed a bunch of postcards, a 'state of Texas' greeting card and a yard long string of 'flat' footballs to the SSG - neutral yard of footballs - so either/both can use them.  Hmm - maybe I should send them a box of those foam footballs from the dollar store??

Got my California post card mailed out last week to Hudson, and yes I put it inside an envelope to ensure it's condition upon arrival.

Re: Soldier asking for post cards

All the post cards I've ever sent over have arrived just fine.  I write on them and mail them by themselves.  Personally, if I was collecting them over there I'd be wanting them with notes written on them and for them to each come from different people.  I would be interested in not just collecting the cards but the people sending them as well.  Does that make sense?  Not trying to discourage folks from sending multiples in bundles.  Just mentioning what would be most important to ME if I was the one receiving them.

When I mail my postcards I do send them in an envelope in multiples but I put a note on each one along with my address and email, just as if they were mailed individually. I am just saving a little $ on the postage. Besides, if I don't have to address each card, there is more room for my message! Lynne B.

I sent George Hudson 2 post cards from Boston and Cape Cod but they were returned to me so I put them in an envelope and sent that with them.I am surprised because in the past I had no problems with them just sent as a post card.Hopefully this will work

Just opened up an email from George Hudson! He said the post cards are starting to come in and the show of support is outstanding. He also saw the forum post on anysoldier! He wanted everyone to see the pictures he posted from the Halloween contest . Great response everyone!

Diane.......I've had some post cards returned to me also........When I asked the postal clerk she explained that the sorting machine might have read my zip code that I had on my address label.   So she advised me to cross out my zip.......and I've never had a problem since.    Did you have address lablels on the cards???    Maybe that's what happened to you.     Just a helpful hint to cross out your zip next time.
