In most of Metcalfe's messages he asks for heaters.  I hope they can use it.

The last post by Kristopher Carroll he asked for a crockpot. I sent one from Kohls today. Actually, I sent 3 so that I could get free shipping. One is not large enough to cook for 20 people. I figured he could get them to anyone else who needs one.

I just looked at this site.  There are a lot of photos that I had seen before but there are also a lot of new ones too.  Just be aware that some of the pictures are pretty disturbing.  It is helpful to see just how our soldiers are living and how primitave some of the observation posts are.  Thanks for the link.

    Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

    1LT Joshua Rodriguez has updated.

Since 1LT Rodriguez was the only trooper from C Troop active on AS, I suggested to his commander that he be the contact for all of C Troop.    C Troop 6-4 CAV have been spread out, and will  it will be difficult for many to maintain the AS updates, so it made sense for an old hand like 1LT Rodriguez to be the contact for the whole troop.    He has done such a fantastic job.      I'd like to expand a bit on his requests.    We have some of the things on his list possibly coming from other sources.   Socks are supposed to be on their way.    two boxes of them.     Soooo   the sheets, pillows, and pillow cases, AND the ponch liners are really needed.   The Bed Bath connection is a good one, and at some stores they are having teriffic sales.   The commander of C Troop, specifically requested the poncho liners.  We found a source, and checked it out with them.  This is the source the commander says looks the best price.

    Poncho liners

    http://www.uscav.com/Productinfo.aspx?productid=9143&TabID=1

    $22.99 each

The dark colors, and the black, olive, and digital woodland are the preferred colors.

I'm not using the commander's name, since he has asked 1LT Rodriguez to be the contact, but the commander emailed me that MOST of his troopers have no sheets and pillows.      And being a Ranger school gratuate (or whatever is the correct military terms LOL) he requested the poncho liners for when they are out and about.

C troop has turned down a lot of support in the past, wishing it to be sent out to the more isolated COPs and OPs.   Now, as I'm sure you have all seen in the news, with a few more soldiers coming into theatre, this troop is going to be more active out in the field.  They now need things they passed on  before to move out to more remote units.   Now, they will be remote, so we are trying to catch them up.

Again, the desperate need is for single cot sheets, and poncho liners.

By the way, 6-4 CAV commander, and Chaplain report they have thousands of hand and foot warmers.      I'll add for now!  LOL

I hope this helps get the things for C Troop to 1LT.

Send everything to 1LT Rodriguez.    He and the 1SGT will work to get everything out to rest of C Troop.

By the way, on the previous request to send things to Chaplain Maj Ron Cooper.      His office received so much support, he has removed his name from AS, and he has requested support be send to the individual 6-4 Troop contacts directly.

Thanks to all of you, and the rest of AS.   The whole 3-1 ID were overwhelmed with the generiosity from all of you, and all the support they have received the past few months.    They all know there are Americans that support them.     You have done fantastic (as usual) things.

Thanks for the good info.  Joshua did ask that I start sending to the guys on the mtn rather to him when they moved, and Ch. Cooper was one of them.  OOPS    Sorry we overloaded him.     So do all the guys at the little firebases (where I also send) have enough handwarmers now too?  I'll order some poncho liners ASAP     Please keep us updated, thank you   Anita

    Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

6-4 CAV commander said, we have thousands of handwarmers, and we will get them spread out.

With money from a generous military family supporter in Florida, Tankerbabe arranged for thousands of little hotties hand and foot warmers to be sent to the chaplain, and commander.

No OOPS ! ! !     They needed all the support and well wishes.     The generousity and volume was surprising to them.  The volume was as much as discussion as the contents.   The outpouring was overwhelming in a good way.     The Chaplain is fantastic about getting to all his flock, and that did not leave much time for mail sorting.    He does have a great group of chaplain assistants, and they have been doing a good job.    The mail system seems to be working --- great by OEF standards at least.

I would like to add something.  I think everyone now sees just how precious and fragile the web service is to the outlying areas, especially.    This go around of deployments, the web service has been outstanding --- again, by OEF standards.   I want to put in a "plug" for getting letters out to these guys on a regular basis.  Even if you have email contact, and repeat yourself.    I know most of them are the email/text/facebook/twitter generation, but now learning to live without these, letters may become more precious.   letters from home, as the song goes.

Thanks for the quick response!  Glad to know things are working out with all the mail.  I've probably sent 40 boxes of Hotties to that area and was trying to decide where to send some more so glad for the info.  I'll send them to a different area where there is more need.   I went ahead and ordered 10 black liners.  Remembered I had a free shipping coupon from US CAV but it expired on the 14th.  Good timing huh?  LOL

I'll write some letters too, mostly we do communicate by e-mail, but not all have access, thank you so much for your help and info, nice to have someone 'in the know'.    Anita

The truth is extras for the cold weather are always welcome. They will be shared with others in the area who don't have them.

this is off the subject but my contact has not been heard from in almost 60 days.  my understanding is that i should not send anything until he is heard from.  but i hate not sending anything.  i'm sure at this time of the year they could use the tlc.

what do you guys think?   thanks, va girl
