    In Honor of...

The Grandfather of one of my contacts was a Marine Code Talker on Iwo Jima - here are two links in memory of his Grandfather and all the other Code Talkers who did so much to help the war effort.

(Not sure on the availability or timeliness of Code Talking GI Joe info - but it sure is interestingJ )

Hi Nick - I was way impressed too.  But unlike you, I couldn't even get the word Wow out:)

Am reluctant to post info on anyone w/o their prior permission so will wait till I hear from contact again.

There is a lot of info on the Code Talkers tho if you're interested.  There were Cherokee Code Talkers also.  The link is in there someplace.  Really interesting stuff.

Yes the Code Talkers were Native Navajo. They used a word from their language and matched it with a letter from our alphabet, much like the NATO Phonetic alphabet (i.e: Alpha = A, Baker = B). They also used code words, for example, turtle in Navajo was 'tank'. Unlike other, more obvious, codes, the Japanese could not decode this. The code was kept so classified, the heroes of the Navajo were not recognized until the early to mid 90s.

Sorry, bit of a history geek here.
