I emailed him a few hours ago and told him what I did and how to find this post.  I hope he finds it and that it makes his fellow soldiers feel better.

Geez Louise! Where have I been! I have missed all of this! I am embarrassed that another "so-called" AnySoldier letter-writer would write letters to soldiers in a negative manor. Good God, what else are they sending them that the soldiers think they may be "harmed"??? Bad food or something? I am appalled! Time to step up the letter writing!!

I am amazed.   It took me forever to cross paths with this site so that I could do something good for some soldiers.  I am nauseated to think that this site is also a convenient way for those who harbor ill will to have a cowardly way to vent to those who are in harm's way.    It does sound like Marty has this one under control.  Yay, Marty!   I am going to write nice, encouraging letters to my contacts now, just in case the jerks got to them as well.

    Re: What a Shame!!!

Well, after finally getting our power back on after the lovely 100 degree weather today in beautiful northwest Illinois knocked it out...I read this post about the unit who dropped because of the negative mail being sent.  I really find it sad that some people decide to take advantage of this fantastic organization to spread hate.  I guess that is one drawback to our freedom of speech.  I know many personal friends who are in the military that say they get more thank you's than negative comments from ordinary people, but there are the rare exceptions they run into, but they just hold their own and brush off their comments as jibberish.  And from what Marty said....sounds like this unit put that mail behind them (pun intended!)...they know they are supported by most of us but sure doesn't hurt to really remind them of the fact.  Heck, the people sending this crap probably don't even vote, so who are they to talk?!?  Opps, thats getting into political talk....slap on the wrist...pretend I didnt go there..haha!!  Sorry!
But seriously, from any Vietnam vet I talk to, and I talk with a lot being a historian, they would do anything to have had the amount of supporters greeting them at the airports coming home like the troops do today  I think our Armed Service personnel are so luck today to have such a strong backing from the population as a whole...I dont think there is a day that goes by I dont see someone wearing a Marine or Army or Navy or Air Force shirt or a sticker in a car window that says Proud parent of Son/Daughter in the (branch of military), or the legendary yellow ribbon magnets, and what I think is the greatest tradition...the Blue Star Flag hanging in the window of a home where a serviceman/women resides.
So a big BOOOOO to the ones who want to tarnish our national image sending wicked lil letters to our troops in harms way.  You SUCK!  I could use some other words, but this is a family friendly forum and I wont stoop that low...afterall I dont like to create hate...I spread the LOVE.  And I LOVE America!

One suggestion I might add, after every 50 days a contact has been listed a general email be sent to the soldier/marine/sailor/airmen/coastguardsmen stating if they have received any malicious mail in that time frame to please report it to the support team/Marty and who the sender was so appropriate actions may be taken against those sending the hate mail.  This way they all get a notice that lets them know AS, Inc. is serious about such problems and will deal with them accordingly.

How do we know that the letters were written by Americans?

Well, I guess she could be lying, but Marty did say the offender (in this case) was "Emily from Brooklyn".

Well... now the "refund lady" isn't the only one with a plaque at the AnySoldier hall of shame.  What a moron.

Well, along with what Jenifer_one_n said, it looks like Emily from Brooklyn may be responsible.I guess people from other countries could be writing nasty letters, too. You are right!

    Re: What a Shame!!!

I read about this late last night and wanted to sleep on it before I jumped on and typed something I may regret (have to keep the site G-rated!)Wink  I too am greatly annoyed at some people's mean spiritness.  The people that these letters age going to are the ones who are putting themselves in harm's way protecting our way of life (which includes free speech).  Everyone is entitled to their opinion-right or wrong-and in my (right) opinion, I have to quote Bugs Bunny when I say "what a maroon"!

Just keep in mind that the letter writers may be trolling around here getting their jollies reading about our outrage.  Some people get a kick out of stirring up people and getting them angry. Unfortunately, whenever something nice is going on somebody usually has to put some negativity into it Lightning(Carlos got some nasty comments on his Folgers page-no worries those people were slammed already!)

So if you brave service people are reading this-I stand behind you and support you all the way!  Please remember that there are lots of people who do also!  Stay safe! Rock on!Cool

Folks, bad things will happen.  There can't be good people unless there are bad, right?

Let's not build this thread too much or the press will pick up on it as THE story, instead of the correct story...

(yes, the press is all over the Any Soldier Inc. site, all the time.)

Marty didn't write "Emily from Brooklyn", he wrote "Emily" from Brooklyn (although he did use 'she' after that - and he knows who signs up.)

Although "true junkies" feel an affinity to this forum, remember that you don't always know the identity behind the user name.

    Re: What a Shame!!!

sometimes I hate computers.. I had this great response posted and BAM-- page not displayed and lost it all Crying

     Let me try again

Let's honor Marty's request and put our energy on what we are here to do: support our men and women. Cat, keep urging them to read here or to keep their chin up and remember that we are stronger and better than any refund lady or moron in "Brooklyn" and that there are indeed power in numbers. Like they say "united we stand" and NO ONE can break us and can stop  us from loving and supporting these men and women. I liked to believe that good can overcome bad/evil any day. However, we are indeed giving this idiot what they want, which is reaction from us [ great lesson learned from my mom when my brother picked on me when I was little  lol ]-- so let's not give them that satisfication.

Cat- keep urging them to try and if they don't want to register, then tell them to come on here, read some  posts, and private message us and ask us directly for help. We will be like superman and react at the speed of light!! Heck it might be fun for them to pick us!!   Stick out tongue  Regardless, tell them to not give up..

Marty - you remain our hero. I am so glad you could help those guys/gals laugh a bit. We will all continue to promote this fine organization (including to Hollywood:) ) and we all know that we can't protect everyone from the morons of this world, but we can indeed not give them the satisfaction they crave-- again, CAT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND KEEP URGING THEM TO ASK FOR HELP if they need it or want it and they can do it through ways suggested on here..

ROCK ON ANY SOLDIER JUNKIES!! AND USA MILITARY -- YOU ARE OUR HEROES!! And to 'PROUD SOLDIER'-- we all come from different backgrounds, heck I am Irish, German and English :)  but we are all Americans, and we will always support you all. The best we can do is to ignore the ingorance from people like that.

NOW, how about this weird weather we are having:: starting from the West::::: HEAT...... the Midwest---RAIN RAIN RAIN.. then EAST -- HOT, HUMID AND then Rain on our kids swim practice :)    [politely changing the subject]

I am saddened by the negative reports we hear on the news.I was talking about this site to a friend and said when you read the soldiers post you change the way you think. Most of the soldiers are so positive and are trying to do what is right and want to finish what they started and come home. I think that all the good soldiers write in to AS and the bad ones talk to the press...telling them what they want to hear..(You know I am being sarcastic)But, to think that the news  people have access to things our wonderful soldiers are saying and choose not to report them....Wow!!!!! I have not thought of that before.......

I am saying it for the first time.....I am Marissa and I am an ANYSOLDIER junkie..........Thank you Marty and staff for all you do. It must be even harder for you to hear the "negative news". I guess we will just continue to do what is right.........and be proud of it.

    Re: What a Shame!!!

Somehow, this doesn't surprise me, given the state of politics these days and the number of people who can't seem to separate their political views with supporting the men and women who are simply doing their job serving their country.  I ran into enough negativity during a drive I did for anysoldier in my workplace, to understand that no matter where you live or work, there will always be people who just can't bring themselves to support these brave men and women.  I was quite upset by some of the attitudes by people at work, but now, I just say a prayer for them...hopefully to change their hearts so they can see this situation for what it really means.

    Thought for the day:

May those who love us, love us, and for those that don't may God turn their hearts.  But if He doesn't turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles, so we'll know them by their limping...

(I saw that on a pillow once, and have retained in all these years just waiting on the chance to use it!)  Big Smile

    Marty,

You are just to funny sometimes.  LOL  Very creative.   To bad you don't do stand up.  What an innovative idea you had for how to make good use out of something so bad.
