We were really happy to recieve a letter back from a soldier in Afghanistan.

One of the things he mentioned that his troop needs is socks.

Since he didnt specify what type, we are thinking that we could send just white cotton athletic socks.

Would wools socks be more appropriate or do the socks have to be a certain color?

We would like to get working on this as soon as we find out what's the best thing to send.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If they are in the mountains where it is cold, and they are infantry or cavalry, they could use a mix of white cotton, green and black boot socks and wool hiking socks.  We had one very grateful group of guys who we sent wool Army issue from a surplus store.

 Here is a link to some socks that my son liked.  He is where it is cold but this is what he wanted.  They are quite reasonable.  9.99 for a pack of three but if you buy three packs of three they are 7.99 a pack.

Military.com has a wool blend sock that is very reasonably priced; they only send directly to the soldier as the socks are in high demand.  I have sent these and they are greatly appreciated by the troops.
