Oh how I wish I could be there! The Globe and Laurel has always been a fabulous restaurant with delicious food. Besides that, meeting other AS supporters would be awesome. Truly worth every penny in my humble opinion!Yes

Married to an enabler (or possibly a closet Junkie)!

Would love to have everyone at Quantico, but will keep y'all in mind as we enjoy!

Well, March has arrived... and for many of us it is roaring in like a lion... so hopefully it will go out like a lamb.... RIGHT?

In the meantime, some folks have shown some interest in lunching together... getting to know each other face to face...

and hopefully we will have a FUNtastic time!  YEAH!

So, please spread the word to all your AS Junkie friends to see who they might know who is
willing to visit Quantico on April 6.

They do NOT have to be Any Soldier folks, but hopefully they will be before the luncheon is over!

If anyone has any questions about the lunheon... fundraising efforts... golf tournament... look around the AS website... if you can't find the answers, feel free to contact me!

    Anna --

Is there some way the luncheon folks can meet up with the tournament folks at some point?  Say, for the end ceremonies where they award the prizes?  Or can we just go be spectators?  We can do some more meeting and greeting, build camaraderie, and have fun!  I myself would really like to meet the tournament organizers to thank them.

I wish i could attend.  I live in Pittsburgh and dont think I can make that trip down there during that time.  I will be in the DC area in mid-May though for the Joint Strike Open House at Andrews AFB.

    Hey kaitlin,

Wish you could join us too!
I'm sure you will enjoy the event at Andrews.

Thanks for writing... but if you know anyone who would like to join us... tell them to come on down.

Remember, they don't have to be AS Junkies... We will try to change that, of course, before the luncheon is over! LOL

    Hi Valerie!

    YES!

The marine base's golf course is very close to the restaurant!

Luncheon folks are more than welcome to visit the course, meet the players, and the Walter Reed folks who will be playing as they do their registrations beginning at 9... and then the shotgun start at 10...  and watch the beginning of the tournament ... before coming over to eat.

After we have lunch, with some other Walter Reed folks...

As for attending the awards event after the tournament... I don't have the details on that... will contact the organizer and see what I can find out for us... THAT would be a cool end to the end!  I'm not sure what the cost would be for us to join them, but I'll ask.

    THANKS...

Do you think you can make it?  I had an initial rush of promises but things have slowed down this whole passed week.

By the way, where are you?  I've investigated the possibility of getting a van service from here in Baltimore to drive a group down.  Lou said he'd even drive through the cherry blossoms in DC as part of that service!

Hard to believe March is here and the event is just five weeks away.

Sure hope SPRING arrives so the golfers have some beautiful weather! LOL

    Take care,

    WOW!

Thanks for all the inquiries.  I hope this means I'll be hearing from more folks who CAN attend!

AND, that perhaps more AS Junkies will be arranging to get together to meet and greet!  YEAH!

Let's get creative to figure out ways we can host little fundraisers for Any Soldier!  Yes, we  all do a great deal for our contacts and I don't want to diminish that, but remember we need AS to do what we do!  Let's give a little back!

So... who do you know that might be in the MD, DC, VA, DE, PA area that could travel to Quantico for a golf game and/or a luncheon?  If they are AS Junkies -- GREAT!  If not, let's recruit them -- even if they are just AS Supporters for the day!?!?

We'll work on getting them hooked soon thereafter!

In the meantime, let's fill up the restaurant for the LIVE CHAT meet and greet luncheon!  It is just five weeks away!

    Take good care, y'all!

Time is growing short!  Just three (3) weeks to go... Lets fill the restaurant with AS Junkies!

Spread the word!  Find all those in VA, DC, MD, DE, PA... and anyone willing to drive to Quantico!  The more the merrier!

    Love those AS JUNKIES, y'all

Re: AS Junkies LIVE CHAT Luncheon - Mon, Apr 6

    Hello AS Junkies!

Monday's luncheon at The Globe & Laurel Restaurant was a success!  YEAH!

Several AS Junkies gathered to meet and greet, have some great food, and share lots of stories.  The AS Junkies were joined by a dozen other guests who were willing to give support to Any Soldier, Inc.  Fantabulous!!!  (See info below about van tour)

In the group of about 30... We were honored to have Fr. Vandenboogard (active Marine); Sgt. Lloyd, (Ret., Army, WWII); and
Mr. Davis, (Army, Vietnam era Veteran).  Everyone enjoyed sharing stories with these gentlemen.

We were privileged to have Cpt. Steven Vandenboogard, (Catholic Priest) present the invocation prior to our meal.
He also graciously shared his story with us regarding his three tours in Iraq, his injuries, his current medical situation (Cander, Kidney dialysis; etc etc) and his devotion to the troops.  He also answered various questions from the group!     NICE NICE NICE

Two gentlemen who attended had planned to golf in the tournament which was canceled, so instead they joined us at the restaurant.  One is an AS Junkie from Rockville, MD; the other is an avid supporter who donates postage money every two weeks so I can mail more packages each month!  GO A.S.!  GO AS.!.  GO A.S. JUNKIES!!!

VAN TOUR:  A tour van traveled from Essex - Baltimore County, MD - with twelve folks, who enjoyed the luncheon (preceeded by a short tour of the Quantico Marine Base)/ After lunch they enjoyed a tour of the Marine Museum before going to the Tidal Basin in Washington DC where they enjoyed the picturesque Cherry Blossoms!  Wooo Hooo.... so nice.
Included in the tour group were four teenagers who participate in a home school community and they were so glad to be able to attend as a field trip.  They were proud to say they got to visit the famous Quantico Marine Base... they did some studying in preparation for the trip, including looking up Adm Chester Nimitz so they could identify him and his quote which is engraved on the wall at the museum!  SMART!
Also in this group was the Director of the Home School group... and she now has plans to get these students actively involved in sending letters to our troops!  SUPER~!

The group was also privileged to meet Christina, Any Soldier, Inc's Treasurer who was able to be with us. She even brought her son EVAN! A very young AS JUNKIE!

    OTHER DETAILS!
Thanks go out to some other AS Junkies who participated in absentia!  They could not attend, but were with us in spirit or there as donated items!

Deb W. of Baltimore made some home-made chocolates, wrapped them very patriotically as table favors for all the participants!  Deb also donated a beautiful gift basket of Tastefully Simple products which was given as a prize to the person who came the farthest.  (The prize went to Peggy Kane of Southern California, who flew in to participate with us! WOW!)

Thanks also goes to Kathy C. in NY for the flag which Fr. Steve will deliver to Walter Reed; along with folders that were delievered to some Marines on base with a beautiful poem and some letters of thanks!

Several folks also very generously donated monies to pay for the lunches of our servicemen who were to attend.
Thanks Pat C. (Eastern Shore, MD); Kathy C (NY); Pat F (Baltimore MD); Cathy T (Baltimore, MD)!  KUDOS!!!

Goody Bags were taken by Joan D. back to the Base's computer dept for the seven marines who were scheduled to attend the luncheon, but due to a computer failure, their permission to attend was canceled since they had to work on getting the computers back up and running!  (WHAT A BUMMER!).  Joan did let me know that the computer system was repaired before night fall! LOL.

I'm sure there are many other details that I'm forgetting, so I'll review this later and see if I have things to add.

MOST CERTAINLY _-- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to all who did attend...

Oh, AND -- a donation of $505 was made to Any Soldier from the profits of this event.

Will be looking to schedule a luncheon in conjunction other events in Baltimore in June as another fundraiser!

WATCH FOR DETAILS!   oh, and watch for pictures, etc on the AS site on the NEWS page.

    Take care y'all!

    Hello Anna........

KUDOS TO YOU on a job well done.    Your details made me feel like I was there (esp. the van tour).   What a great fundraiser for AS and a wonderful way for people to meet and get together.   Better watch it.......Marty might hire you to work on the staff and organize things like this around the country (like you need another job!!!).

    Sorry we couldn't make it.........

    Love peace and blessings.....Anne Marie

(replied to the other post about this "Nice Luncheon".........and wanted to let you know how appreciative I AM of ALL your efforts in pulling this off)

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to GOD.
