    Phone cards

When soldiers request phone cards, are there specific ones I should be looking for? A lot of the cards are "domestic US calling". Any ideas? Thanks!Big Smile

    Re: Phone cards

There is a section in the "what to send" with phone cards made for overseas/troops.

    Re: Phone cards

Under the FAQ sections there is the info about phone cards:

    Military Exchange Prepaid Calling Cards
The Department of Defense Military Exchanges have been authorized to sell the following prepaid calling cards to individuals and organizations who wish to purchase these cards for our troops serving overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

THESE are the cards to send!!! Click HERE.
(Tip: ONLY send to contacts who ask for phone cards! Not all units can use them.)

    Re: Phone cards

Thankfully this search function really does work!!  I got another email from PFC Vetter, and he said phone cards would be greatly appreciated. (He said the magazines and Sunday comics I enclosed were really enjoyed...along of course with the snacks. As we say sometimes it is the filler things that gets the best response.)

Back to the phone cards, does anyone know how many minutes it charges from Qatar to USA for example? It said something about extra minutes charge for out of the US but I am wondering.. He has over 20 people and I can pretty much send ONE card. It says 550 minutes, which would be great for everyone to share, but how many minutes is it really? thanks.

    Re: Phone cards

that goofy table on the phone card page (that took me like 3 days to figure out...duhEmbarrassed)  says 143 min from A'stan, Iraq and Kuwait....."for calls placed to the US at AT&T phone centers in OEF/OIF"   Don't know for a fact, but would think that would count the same for Qatar, since those folks are there with the same "operation".  The 300 min card says "80 Min" from the same places.

Well at least I am not the only confused one. Thanks!! somehow I missed that . I guess that would still give like 20 plus folks more than a 5 minute conversation.. I think I will do one card next week.

    Re: Phone cards

AT&T seems to have a corner on the market as they've set up phone centers in Iraq.  We get 600 min. phone cards when they're on sale at Target for $16.  We post a little note on each that tells them to call the Customer Care number instead of the access number.  That way they get a min. for min. rate.  Response from authority says they know to do that and it connects them with a base in the U.S. so they get the domestic rate.

    Re: Phone cards

I did purchase the ones from the AFES site, and while I got confirmation and all, I am unable to track it or log on to the site.  I ordered it 4/18, got an immediate confirmation and then on 4/21 I got another email. I am unable to log onto the site so I have been trying to call the phone number. (I haven't heard from the intended recipient either). I will continue trying to track this /hope I hear from the recipient... but has anyone else had problems with them? Not exactly the most user friendly site.
