This thread began in Special Projects as Quilting Bee is Once Again Alive!
Ok, ladies this is going to be a long one.
After mailing off Marine Sgt. Patrick B's lap quilt this morning, I was leaving the parking lot when I noticed a Gold Star banner in the window of a parked car.
I circled around and parked next to it on the driver's side. Right at that moment, 2 ladies walked to the other side of it and placed their purchases into it.
As they walked in front of my car, I got out and asked them if one of them had lost a son. (I know not the most gentle way to begin a conversation. They caught me offguard coming back to their car so quickly.)
She noticed my shirt I was wearing with the wording - Remembering Their Sacrifices -
(thanks Kim - rememberingtheirsacrifices.com/) and I could tell she felt comforted by that.
The one closest to me answered yes. Her son, a Marine, was the first one from our County to die 3 years ago. I asked his name, and then was able to tell her that my husband Tom, daughter Jamie, son-in-law Paul, and I were at his Memorial Service.
I mentioned AnySoldier.com and the packages I'm still mailing to our troops, and mentioned the quilting bee that I have been involved in with the latest one just mailed out to a Marine.
I told her and her friend the next 3 quilts will be Memorial Quilts. She said the quilts she received from our local groups (one of them had my family's signatures on it) brings her much comfort and for us never to stop reaching out with our quilts to bring comfort to those who have lost loved ones.
I assured her we wouldn't stop.
This week I will begin piecing together the first of the three quilts.
Please pray with me that everything will come together and that the parents that we are making these quilts for, find comfort when they receive them.
