    Month of the Military Child

     I received the info below from another AS supporter and am passing it on for any of you who know children whose parents are deployed.
     

    April was established as the "Month of the Military Child" in 1986 by then Defense
    Secretary Caspar Weinberger. He established the annual recognition because
    he understood and appreciated the challenges encountered by children of the
    military service members. Throughout the month of April we make a special
    effort to let our military children know that we honor and appreciate their
    sacrifices in the same light as we do that of their parents ...because
    military kids serve too!! For fun activities go to

    I remember the news doing a story on military children, highlighting some of the things the schools in Killeen, TX had done to help them cope.  Can you imagine a school where a large percentage of the students have parents in Afghanistan?  I am a teacher and I get a student occasionally with a deployed parent . Having been through a similiar situation with my kids during Desert Storm makes their situation near and dear to my heart.  Those kids need a little bit extra sometimes.
