    Military movies/video reviews

    "THE LUCKY ONES"

Released recently to DVD. I was able to order from Netflix. It is a story of three wounded veterans coming home on leave. Though they are different in personalities they opt to go in together for a rental vehicle when their connecting flights are cancelled upon arriving CONUS. The film shows the journey of three soldiers returning home and their adjustments to the changes while they were gone.

Using a scale of one to ten - I rate this at 8 out of 10.

This is entertaining movie and I actually laughed during some of it.

For a Anysoldier supporter I would say it is worth your time.

    Hello Everyone!

"Saints and Soldiers" was released in 2003 and is on DVD. It is about an incident in WWII where Americans are captured behind enemy lines and escape being shot. Connecting with a downed British pilot with valuable information they realize they must get back through the front and report it. Most of the scenes are true and compiled into the movie to show what it was like.

If you can be sure not to miss the commentary. The facts are like getting two movies for the price of one. Considering the dedication of those involved to make this movie this a must see in my book.

On a scale of one to ten. I rate this movie as an 8.

Does anyone have their favorite video of troops? I will report on one shortly.

With every soldier you see in a movie or video there is one needing to know that you care, send a letter today.

I own Saints and Soldiers.  I really enjoyed The Christmas Card and Taking Chance.  The fantastic scenery in The Christmas Card was awesome.  Story line was great, too.  Taking Chance showed me a side of the military I hadn't seen.

The Christmas Card and Taking Chance 10/10.

Saints and Soldiers was seen before Christmas and I would rate that one 8/10.

There are several older movies that I enjoy also.

    Hello kawajeep!

I haven't seen "Taking Chance" but I did talk ( email ) to his high school friend Jodi. She mentioned that she wished she had sent him more stuff when he was overseas.

I told her she could send to soldiers now and redirected her here to Anysoldier. She said she would.

I have not seen "The Christmas Card" but I will put it on my netflix que list.

I did see "Merry Christmas" which is a foreign film with subtitles. It was based on a true story where both sides of WWI got up out of the trenches on Christmas eve and shared wine, cheese and tobacco and sang Christmas songs only to go back to war afterwards. I would rate it a 7 out of 10

I am going to watch "Taking Chance" soon but I had a heavy heart this winter and thought I would give it a little time before I watched it.

I am interested in the making of movies and could not believe they could do such a great job on "Saints and Soldiers" for only one million dollars.

Thanks for the movie tips. I have one contact that started a free DVD rental called the Rockbuster as that is about all they see when they look off base. Blessings, door

The Christmas Card was filmed in my town.  I love where I live.

Door you're going to really like The Christmas Card if you're a romantic at heart.  Also if you love the small town closeness and friendship.  The log house and the scenery is .....well I'd move there in a heart beat.

Deni Dax you are so lucky to live there in Nevada City.  I miss living in a small town.  And your scenery.  Awesome.  Mountains, spruce trees and rivers/creeks.  Are the people as nice as in the film?

....add the Ponderosa Pines, the Cedar and the Oak trees and you have it covered Kakwajeep.

There are a lot of nice folks in this town, however, I wish we were a more supportive of our troops type of community.

We have a good group of folks who meet once a month and pack care packages for our local men and women who are deployed.  I enjoy that evening when I go there.

Are you guys just talking "new" movies? I have a collection of WWII and Vietnam era movies that are awesome-but are not in the last 10 years. Just wondering.

    Heidi Hello!

Any movie of any age that has to do with soldiers. Veterans of any war. I saw "Gran Torino" recently and loved the storyline of Clint Eastwood as a Korean War Vet trying to adjust to the changing world around him.

Which he really did serve during the Korean War but was not deployed overseas due to an airplane crash.

There are good movies out there that the younger generation might love to see. So let them know some of your favorites. Many can be accessed over the internet so don't worry even if they haven't been released on DVD.

Be sure to rate it and give us a brief description, door

Ok, kids, here we go. One that you may or may not have heard of. I will say up front, that I collect movies, and am working on my WWII movies constantly. So, I will only do one at a time..*G*

    The Enemy Below-1957

Has Robert Mitchem and Curt Jurgens playing the captians of  a destroyer and a U-Boat. They meet in the Southern Atlantic ocean, and a game of wits and experience takes place. Mitchems character hates Germans because he saw his wife killed by a U-Boat attack,  and Curt (Curd) is a German officer that is not in line with the beliefs of his superiors.

This movie is full of tension, and has two great actors with a terrific supporting cast. It rarely comes on tv, but I watch it whenever I can.  I give it 9 of 10 stars.

    Hello Everyone!

At the suggestion of mrsmarquis on this site I looked at US Marine Raif Zakhem's video. This Marine has given supporters of Outpost Honaker Miracle in Afghanistan a great opportunity to see it firsthand thru the eyes of those with boots on the ground.

Raifs choice of the opening music fits the video very well.

    Hello Everyone!

It has been a while since I gave this thread a breath of life but last night I saw a movie that I felt should be seen by those who support our soldiers. It was released within the last two years and it is called "Music Within". It is the true story of Viet Nam Vet Richard Pimentel. A name that may not be known to many but someone whose work for disabled Vets makes a difference with every disabled Vet today. For the average person, on a scale of one to ten, I give it a 7 out of 10. For anysoldier supporters I give it a 10 out of 10. It is a must see. Sorry to keep this old thread alive but this film is just to good not to be seen by supporters.

Re: Military movies/video reviews - Music Within

    Door,

Thanks for this posting!  This is a SMALL WORLD! LOL.

First, I will certainly look up this movie which I have not seen, nor have I heard about it before.

I must have been hiding somewhere! because this is something I would have noticed otherwise... for several reasons...

ONE of course because I'm an AS Junkie, and anything about supporting troops always catches my eye!

2nd.. I worked for the Division of Rehabilitation Services for 32 years -- an agency that was born to help returning, disabled WWI veterans!  An agency that is in all 50 states and now helps to provide services to anyone with a disability!!!

3rd.  While working for DORS, I had the privilege of meeting Mr. RIchard Pimentel, an awesome thinker and go getter!
He firmly believed that he could and would do great things with the talents God had given him, although he had been told by many that he couldn't.  Needless to say, I never followed his career.  I am eager now to find and watch this movie.

Again, THANK YOU for making my day.  My lips are surely upturned into a big big smile.

    Have a great weekend.

Don't forget to pause at 3PM for the Nation's Moment of Remembrance for all who have gone before us.

    Take good care,

    Anna - Baltimore MD
