PBS show about soldiers coming home....

Coming Home: Military Families Cope with Change....will air on Maryland Public Broadcasting(PBS) on April 1,2009 at 8PM. Check your local PBS station for schedule.

Queen Latifa and John Mayer take part in this Sesame Workshop program about soldiers returning home with visible and invisible injuries and the challenges they and their families face.

It sounds as though this is geared for all ages.  I watched a short clip about the show on:

I stumbled across this show yesterday afternoon and watched it.  It was really well done, had 2 Soldiers who had lost limbs, the visible injuries - one lost his leg, the other lost his hand - and 2 Soldiers that had the invisible injuries - PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury.

It showed how the kids helped the dads cope and find their way back to normal family life but it also showed how the kids were traumatized when their dads were 'different' - and it was the invisible injuries that freaked them out the most since Dad looked normal but was acting way different.  The kids of the Soldiers with missing limbs adapted to the change pretty easily.  The son of the dad who got a 'bionic' hand even took his dad to school for show and tell so his dad could show his robotic hand to his son's classmates.

I was really glad to see Sesame Street did this show for military kids and also for all kids, so they can understand what is going on better.
