Has anyone from Australia sent packages succesfully?

I'm in Australia and I want to try to send a package but have no idea what to expect when I get to Australia post.

Any idea what customs or other forms I'll need, or anything else I need to know? I won't send food items or anything, just magazines & dvds etc.

     Thanks

I'm not sure but I believe the package will first go to the states to the APO box and then to the destination from there.AP addresses go to California and AE addresses go to New York. I don't know what forms are needed to mail from Australia.

BTW My daughter studied in Australia her junior year of college ( Gold Coast) and LOVED it and the loved the gracious and fun loving people

Tania - Any possibility you can do shopping online on a stateside store site with a credit card and have stuff shipped from that stateside store site to the APO?  So you don't have to pay postage all the way from down under to the USA and then to the APO?  Seems like it would be cheaper if it is all paper transfer stuff:).

Of course I have no idea if you can actually do this or if it is possible -  but it is just a thought.  Good Lunck - Ann

PS  Seems to me there is a thread around here about someone from Australia that used to ship from there - try searching on Australia, Aussie, etc

    Hi Tania.

I think Ann's idea would be the most economical. I've shipped boxes to Australia and if the postage from Australia to the US is anywhere close to what I paid going to Australia, it's very expensive!

Sites like Amazon.com and Overstock.com carry a large variety of products and they do ship to APO and FPO addresses and shipping to APO/FPO addresses are charged the domestic mail rate.

Also, click the "How To Send" button on the menu. There's more info about shipping from other countries.

    Hope this helps.

Great idea with amazon etc., but there might be a little problem with people outside the US using Overstock.com, or at least I'm encountering one right now.

It seems that to have your order shipped to an APO address (with a "domestic" shipping charge) your billing address also has to be within the USA. I've been trying to buy some CDs for a soldier that requested them and Oversctock.com is rejecting my billing address quoting "an invalid zipcode".

When I switch to international checkout, instead of the $2.95 shipping charge I'm being charged $28.22 (!!!) and I can't change the ship-to country to the US.

Now I'm going to have to try amazon.com and I hope it works - I've already requested the contacts full address so I have to send them something.

edited to add: I found this on the overstock.com help pages:

Shipping to the U.S. from an International Location
At this time orders with international pay methods cannot be shipped to the US. All shipments to a U.S. address must be placed with a U.S. credit card.

     That's a bummer :(
