Donations to AnySoldier via bank draft

Has anyone been successful at getting a bank draft set up for regular monthly donations to AnySoldier? I have clicked the link to e-mail Chrissy to set it up, and submitted my phone number but still haven't heard anything back.

Contact pages not loading

I've been unable to access the contact pages since 20 Aug. I've never had a problem before then. The rest of the site is accessible. I saw posts about AVG and link scanning, but I don't use that. I'm on IE8 and use an enterprise version of Norton through my work. I hope this isn't a repeat post because searching didn't produce any results. Thanks for your help.

Anyone using AVG and having trouble with viewing the contact pages?

I've been using AVG for months and have had no problem viewing any of the contact pages, but today they were all blocked. (I don't know if it's connected to the new pop-up, but I changed my settings to allow it and it made no difference.) I am getting a pop-up from AVG that says blocked access and no explanation of how to get around it. I've tried making the site an exception, but no go. Anyone have any ideas?

This is just one I have found. Feel free to add a site that you use.

I have been using Wikipedia to locate and print information of areas that my soldiers are located in.

It has highlighted links in the articles for easy link jumping.

I have started out with Afghanistan, gone to Provinces of Afghanistan, and ended up with a photo of my soldiers base. I have found the oldest Lapis Lazuli mine in Afghanistan and found out Marco Polo said there were Balas Rubies and Emeralds there. Our soldiers enjoy learning about what is around them. I print out topics of interest and include the articles in my packages.

Enter Provincial Reconstruction Team on Wikipedia and click on the links to learn more than you ever get on the nightly news.

Lean and Green

Does anyone know how to get rid of the Lean and Green ( or maybe it's the Community Server )? If I sign off I can get back to the original website that I am used to. If I sign in it goes to the Lean and Green and I hate it. I have been to the area where you update your bio and changed it there but it still keeps coming up. Rats!

system freezes in IE7

On the website, I can access one contact's page, either by clicking on a name to the left or by using the search mechanism. But I can't access any subsequent pages. I can't go back, I can't click on another name to the left, I can't reset the page, I can't go the search tool. I can't use any of the buttons at the top of the page. I can't even close the page or go back to my home page--or even close IE7!! I have to use Task Manager to end the program, which "is not responding". At first I thought it was a volume issue, figuring all supporters checking after the New Year's but it's been happening no matter when I try. So my next guess is that it's some setting in IE7 that's incompatible. I'm not computer savy so if anyone can explain how to fix this in simple terms, I'd appreciate it!

--Later--I did go thru internet options, "tabs" and changed the check mark under "open links" from "new tab in the current window" to "the current tab". That helped a little; I could finally request an address and did receive it. But the usual screen which confirms the address was emailed never showed and the system froze again. Off to hunt for more settings to change.

Problems with this site only - using FireFox

I am moderately computer savvy - meaning if things go right, I am ok - but when there are problems I don't know where to go! Recently a problem has developed when I am looking at the "where to send" items. Some days it is fine. Other times (like this evening) I will view several of the troops' posts, then the screen kind of freezes - will not go to the next one I click. After a few seconds, the item showing on the screen gradually fades until it is barely visible. The computer is not completely frozen - I can click out (on the red square with the x) - then I get a message that Firefox has encountered a problem and it is trying to get Windows to fix it. I can click on an option to reopen - which it does, going back to the screen I was viewing. (Sorry, kind of hard to explain...). This never happens with the forums here, nor with any other website. I am not sure if it is my computer, FireFox, or this site.

Any ideas?

I was browsing the list of requests last night. One of the contacts whose address I requested mentioned in his post that he has an 18th century historical reenacting teacher in his unit (while telling us who all these guys are so we'd have some idea what sort of magazines they might like). I was a history major in college and am still a big history geek. I was thinking of writing the contact and asking for more information about that particular soldier so I could adopt a fellow history geek.

I'm sort of two minds about doing so. I can see where it would be a really nice gesture to have someone who's never met the man say "I want to look out for you, (specific person)!" I can also see where it might just look like I'm on the prowl, or where I might be putting the contact in an unfair position by asking him to single out just one person from his unit for special attention instead of letting him decide himself who needs a package. And then there's the whole thing where I don't really like to impose on the contact by expecting/requesting a reply.

Obviously I'm glad to help any of them, or I wouldn't be here. Just wanting to make sure that what seemed like a good idea late at night actually is a good idea.

I have only had one soldier write me back, and it was the contact because all the other soldiers in his unit were sponsored except for him. To get the letters to him it was obvious that all I had to do was take off the "attn: any soldier" line. But how do I do it if the soldier I am writing is not a contact. Do I take off the contacts name and replace it with the soldier who wrote me?

e-mail address rejected at 'request an address'

I reviewed my profile & found a conflict between the public & private address.

I have corrected this error; however, the page continues to reject my e-mail address.

Me oh my. What to do, what to do?

Okay, I'm hoping i posted this in the right place...it seemed to fit better than the others, and i did not see the answer in the fAQs.

1. once i've requested and received the address of a contact, does it get removed from the list? and once i have that address and contact, can i send them shipments on a regular basis?

2. i see the green bars under everyone's user names...mine are white at the moment...what are they for?

Help Design a New Request Checklist!!

Folks, I have had a lot of requests that a checklist be given the troops to help them better request items. As you will know, not all of our contacts are star writers, and leave out a lot of the information which would be helpful in supporting them. Such as when they request 'sunglasses'...well, what type, what color, what...you name it. And the often requested socks...what color, where to get them, etc... We will also try to provide specific sources to where to get the items requested so you don't send them made in china junk when they need combat-capable items.

One of the biggest problems is that the troops simply don't have the time when they apply to the web site to think of everything and write it on the form. We will make the checklist available online so they can have a better idea of what to list, and how, so you can do a better job filling their requests.

Chrissy Boblits, board member and CFO of Any Soldier Inc. will be organizing this effort and posting here.

PLEASE, follow this thread (reply to this message, don't start another topic somewhere) and give us your suggestions. SPECIFIC suggestions please, as vague is what we are trying to solve... :)

Question regarding requesting an address...

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, Marty and Team, since it says right in the rules that anyone using multiple email addresses when requesting contact addresses will be banned... but I would like to ask anyway?

I have assumed that if I tried to request a contact address to be sent to my work email, I could be banned because my previous requests have my home email attached to my name and mailing address. Is that correct?

I'm just wondering-I'm trying get more efficient with sending off letters as soon as I request an address, but sometimes don't get on my home email for a week or more. (with life being crazy, sometimes tiny delays lead to epic procrastination: I'm not proud of it, but I'll admit it and I'm trying to fix it! )

I certainly don't want to mess with security of address requests! Thanks for confirming one way or the other!

Where did my toolbar go?

I have had the AS toolbar for a while now. Earlier today a little window popped up saying there was an update. It updated and said it would go into effect after I closed out of IE and opened again. Well I did and there was no toolbar. I restarted and still no toolbar. Shut computer down completely, brought it back up and still no AS toolbar. Any thoughts on where it went and why?

Hi. My name is Alena and I am trying to adopt two specific soldiers. My church held a Patriotic luncheon last Sunday and got a ton of supplies to send to the troops. My job was to pick a couple of specific soldiers to send the packages to. I chose two, one a chaplain and the other a chaplains assistant. Unfortunately, I have tried to get the address 4 different times, on different days and have gotten the response that the addresses would be sent to my email address. I have not recieved the address. Each time the number of address requested has gone up and I'm afraid others won't want to donate to them if they think they have ample sponsors. Is there a live person I could talk to about this? I have sent many packages in the past and have never had a problem. Someone help me PLEEEEase.

The last 4 names I have requested have not been sent to my email address. The web site "thinks" it has been sent because it still tells me that I have reached my limit after 2 times trying. I have requested a lot of names. I am the Store Manager for a Kroger store in North Georgia. We are taking up items/donations for the soldiers and then mailing them.

Could you help me with this? I just tried again, I tried to get Bobby Wilson and I never received it. I also have checked my bulk mail and have not changed my settings. This seemed to start about 3 days ago.

The staff at my school has asked me to compile a list of names and addresses for our entire student body to write to on Veterans' Day in conjunction with our special assembly program that day. We're talking 500 names!!! I would be overseeing the whole process. I have matched several students up with pen pals already and have some names from some of my contacts, but that is only a drop in the bucket. I wasn't sure if pulling several hundred names from the site was feasible or not, so I clicked on the "need more names" section and read what was offered there. It looks like this is a do-able thing, but I emailed Marty to verify it. My emails to him keep bouncing back to me, though I've successfully emailed him in the past. I really hope I can pull off this project, as it would gets LOTS of letters into LOTS of hands, as well as continuing to educate my students about the importance of supporting our military. I need to know if I can get the names from the site or if I need to scramble to find them elsewhere. I'll need to budget my time to make this happen, either way! Any help out there?
