Deploying Airman needs help transporting dog to temporary foster home

Can anyone help with this transport from Oklahoma to Alabama?

Posted yesterday on my greyhound adoption forum.....

I just wanted to check to see if anyone would be willing to help out with a transport. It's not a regular transport in that the grey is going to a new home. This one is for my greyhound Nadir's littermate Anna. When Anna retired I fostered her in my home for over a year. She was adopted by a young lady in the Air Force two years ago. I had told Anna's new mom that if she was ever was deployed there was always a place in my home for Anna to stay while she was away. XXXX will be leaving for deployment in May and Guardian Angels for Soldiers Pets is setting up a transport for April 18th to help get Anna to me. When Anna was adopted, XXXX lived a lot closer to me but since then she was relocated to Tinker AFB, Oklahoma and I am in southeast Alabama. XXXX is going to drive Anna a portion of the way and I am also doing the same. Guardian Angels is looking for volunteers to pick up legs of the route to help fill in the gap to transport Anna. If you would be willing to help out please let me know and I can send you the information on the route and who you would need to contact.

The routes still needed for this transport are:

Roland, OK to Russellville, AR 91 miles,
Russellville, AR to Little Rock, AR 77 miles,
Brinkley, AR to Memphis, TN 72 miles
Eldridge, AL to Hoover, AL 71 miles

This is a retired racing greyhound that will be temporarily homed with another greyhound, and someone who is familiar with the Airman and her dog. It is really tough for deploying troops to find someone to care for their beloved pet and here we have the perfect scenario to help this airman and her dog. I haven't found any K-9's

Ahh this is my first post! So exciting!

I have a few dog food samples and such that I was hoping to send over to a group with K-9 troops, but I have not been able to find any. Has anyone come across some groups with K-9's? I would appreciate the help.

K-9 in need

I just wanted to bring to the attention of those who are looking for working dogs/handlers to support a new contact (Reuben Chisolm) with a pretty sad story. With what he posted today (7/05 his first post) it sounds as if things are hard enough for the guys to get things right now where they are, but even worse his working dogs gear was stolen including his harness, collars, and leashes. HE reports his dog is working harder than he does and they are just making do with what they can in reference to his dogs gear. Right now I don't have the means to send the stuff his dog needs but I'm hoping by posting this someone out there can help him out.

I belong to a Theray dog group in Huntsville, Texas and we are looking for K-9's and their handlers. We would like to know what you need. Also could use some names and addresses to send these items too. This is new for me so hope this gets to someone who could help us with some ideas and names and addresses.

K-9 Cooling Vests

Don't know if this has already been discussed anywhere but here goes....one of my K-9 contacts requested a cooling vest for his MWD (summer's coming). Several of us went in on it and found the website: www.helpingudders.com I contacted Mickal...what a great contact here. She explained that they have donations come in for the MWD vests but no contacts to send them to. She's a one woman show....She gave me permission to post her site if anyone else is interested. They also carry the dogoogles, booties and throw in a military approved MWD toy. She ships directly to our guys and gals...no custom forms for us to fill out YEA!!!

Request for official comment on dog food/treats

I have checked previous posts and there have been many, many comments on dog food/treats and whether or not they are okay to send. Is there some way Marty or someone in the know could post an official source as to whether or not the "no pork" rule applies also to dog food so to settle the question once and for all. I have called/emailed several dog food companies trying to find ones made without pork. They all basically said the same thing...all of the products contain meat by products and other unamed things which means at any time their could or could not be pork in the dog food.

The thing that makes me wonder if it is not allowed to be send is that one place told me their company actually makes a pork-free dog food to sell in Iraq and Afghanistan so I am thinking, why would they bother to do that if it wasn't necessary. I get lots of free dog food with coupons and I'd love to send it but don't want to get myself or anyone else in trouble.

My daughter and I are getting together a package to send a K-9 unit and was wondering what everyone usually sends? I have a cooling vest, but can we send treats and toys? Can they be any treats and toys, or are they specific ones? Please share any ideas you might have!

I certainly do not claim to be the "expert" on dogs. but I would like to make some recommendations if you're new to supporting K-9 units. These ideas simply come from the fact that I have read a lot of the postings. . .

Read the posting carefully. Do not send dog food, treats or toys if they are not requested in the posting. Some of the dogs are on a special diet; if they are on the go all the time, they do not have room for lots of toys.
If treats, toys, or anything else are requested, make sure you pay close attention to any specifics given. For example, if they ask for only large toys made of rubber.
If you do not see anything listed about treats, toys, food, etc. . . write the person asking what they would like for you to send. Again, if it is not listed, I don't recommend you send it until you hear back from them. Ask that the person send a new posting to AnySoldier.com with exactly what would be best for their dog(s) AND for the solder. {pardon me, but I tend to use the word "soldier" as a generic term, and do not mean to offend anyone. . . it's simply that I'm "military ignorant"} Also request that they list the number of dogs they have, send along pictures, introduce their dogs and handlers to the supporters. . . all so that the supporters (you) will have a better idea of what they need, as well as can make a "connection" with them. All of this will help to increase their support as well.
If you want to search the listings for additional K-9 Handlers, click the "search" button on the "where to send" page. Try your search at least these three different ways. . .. Do one search for K-9. . .another search for K9. . . and another search for Handler. It all depends upon how the person wrote the posting as to how you will find them.

FYI, the postings I have listed above are just the ones I found in June. I did not go back further.
