Remembering Their Sacrifices

On the DearAmericanHero.com website, I went into Remembering Their Sacrifices and found a website created by a deployed Army National Guardsman's wife. I bought 2 of her denim shirts honoring our troops and wear them everywhere. I have talked with Kim by phone and want to help spread the word. She is a true patriot.

Also a reminder that the business sized cards on DearAmericanHero.com are free (a donation is always welcomed and used to make more cards) Richard wants to get one of these cards into every hand of our military to tell them Thank You.

As they stand shoulder to shoulder with the best sons and daughters America has to offer.
Are they hero's will be a question's one may face and they will ask
What makes a hero is it the ability to do what is right in times of despair
Is it that a hero would put his life before others.
Perhaps it is that a hero provides a symbol of hope for others
If that is the case then they will respond kindly that you must be mistake sir or Ma am
For that is not a hero it is simply a Marine,Army,Navy,Air Force,Coast Guard,National Guard.
For any one of us hold those beliefs to the highest standard possible.
While we face the doubt of those who would stand to oppose us.
There is no fear for we fight for a cause that can not be stopped it will always prevail.
As this cause awaits its baptism by fire its virtues are held true by the members of this country.
Some who fight will come home to bear the weight of what they have done and seen there.
For those that will and have fallen there are no words to describe the caliber of such individuals.
In times of hardships they have always been there for one another and as they are put to the test again.
They will succeed because that is all they know how to do

America is at a time of despair and soon will be tested to its limits but those who would stand in the face
of danger to protect every single last freedom we hold so dear and true. Though these men themselves will all eventually fade away some way to soon it is our job as Americans no as Human Beings to hold on to the virtues that these men and women so valiantly fight for America is one nation and the day these trials of hardship are over America and its countrymen will stand and dust them self off and clearly voice "That there is no end to us and we will always fight for what is right"

If you ever wanted to hear how the real America feels about her heroes, have I got an online event for YOU.

We've asked all our bloggers to join in on posting—all at once—one of their creations, plus why they care about the troops. What motivates them. To talk about THEIR heroes. And wow have they come through in SPADES!! There are about 140 blogs so far—and we keep getting emails from people coming across it who are off creating their own post, so we're adding links all weekend long. Talk about INSPIRING!!

NEVER let anyone tell you people don't care about the troops. Just give them a platform and America will tell you how she feels!

And a little something you won't get from the blogs, but is a backstory - one blogger was upset because we had some linking trouble when it came to her blog. She wrote angry emails, I was tryign to calm her down, and thought about throwing my hands in the air and saying oh well, forget it. Well, after we resolved it, she wrote the most BEAUTIFUL email. She said her daughter had been helping her with her post, and the card, and the whole thing---her 6yr old!---and was SO upset that their blog might not make it into the string of blogs. The Mom was beside herself trying to make this work for her little girl! She wanted to honor the troops so badly, this little lady, and when we finally all beat the technology and she was able to sit at the computer with her mother and go through all the blogs...well she felt SO grown up being included. I LOVE our little patriots!!

Alright, enough blathering. You'll want to go get busy hopping.....take some kleenex, there are some amazing posts out there across America (and the WORLD!)......posts should remain at the top most of the weekend, but scroll down if an unrelated one shows up. :)

Tear Drop Memorial for 9-11

Hi all

I was told that this might be a good place to put this. I had no idea this existed until a friend sent it to me. This memorial is given to the US from Russia after 9-11, and I never saw a single story about it. How sad a commentary on our "journalists."

Anyway, it is pretty, and very moving. At least one junkie has seen it in person! Check the General Chitchat thread and see it there too.

My name is Kim Fuhrmann

I am a Board member of "Dear American Hero".

Our main mission is to make sure that every single man & woman that wore the uniform or currently is wearing one for Our Country is Thanked.

Just one of the ways is with a simple sized business card, that says Thank You For Your Service and Dedication to Our Country, from a man Richard Glasgow, that has touched millions of hearts.

I am a Army Military Wife of 22 years, Air Force Sister and a Army Daughter.

I am a Grateful American Citizen!!!

I attended the Rochester Airport "Welcome Home Party" on Saturday evening for over 80 World War 11 Veterans, that had taken a one day flight and a tour to see all the Memorials in D.C.

All chaperoned and fundraised by Grateful Americans, many from your City.

I was an ashamed American Citizen of the News Media on Saturday evening, due to the fact that not even one News Reporter took the time nor seen the value of this most defining event that I was honored to be a part of.

Bag Pipes, the Color Guard, small children hugging their Grandpa's that had fought for their Children and Grandchildren's future,

cheering, handshakes, high fives, picture taking - the list goes on!!!!!!

Tears of joy, smiles from ear to ear, of the many that said that they would fight for us again if they had to.

Everybody should have been aware of this momentous occasion!

The News Media will talk about the deaths, murders and the F1N1 Flu day & night.

Where the heck is the Media talking about how many World War 11 Veterans one of the Greatest Generations that there is and sharing an event that was a once in a lifetime experience for these Servicemen & Women.

$300, 000 was raised to have made this trip happen for the Veterans.

I have taken over 200 priceless photos of this Event that was held at your local Airport in Rochester.

It took the help of many people to have put this Event on.

Can somebody find it in their heart to do a HEART WARMING STORY and wake up American Citizens!!!!!!!

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!

just ask a Veteran and many hundreds of family members that were at your Airport that showed up to THANK a World War 11 Veteran.

Where were all of you NEWS EDITORS and Broadcasters??????????????

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

'What are you doing?' I asked without fear,
'Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!'
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said 'Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night.'
'It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,'
Then he sighed, 'That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers.'
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.'

' So go back inside,' he said, 'harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right.'
'But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
'Give you money,' I asked, 'or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son.'

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
'Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.'

PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many
people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our
U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these
festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people
stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

The Old Man

As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open.

The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away.

I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm, walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too and took a few steps towards him. I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something.

The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade and then turn back to the old man and I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying, "You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age." And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.

I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke with her and appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough and I approached the old man. He saw me coming an stood straight and as I got near him I said, "Looks like you're having a problem."

He smiled sheepishly and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around I saw a gas station up the road and told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went inside and saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them and related the problem the old man had with his car and offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.

The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine) I spoke with the old gentleman.

When I shook hands with him earlier he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question,

"What outfit did you serve with?"

He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal . He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me and I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card.

He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket. We all shook hands all round again and I said my goodbye's to his wife.

I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me. One of them pulled out a card from his pocket looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then, that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me.

I said I would and drove off.

For some reason I had gone about two blocks when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name........ "Congressional Medal of Honor Society."

I sat there motionless looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together, because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage and an honor to have been in his presence.

" Remember, old men like him gave you FREEDOM for America "

America is not at war.
