Grocery Game to help fund Care Packages

    Good Morning!

I thought I'd share, we joined the Grocery Game a couple months ago, let me give you a (very) short version of how it works...

The on-line site www.GroceryGame.com basically matches your local Grocery Stores weekly deals, with the coupons in the Sunday paper.  Sometimes this means that Aquafresh is already on sale, and then with the double coupon, you pay 25 cents or even get it for FREE!  I save on average 54% on my groceries per week.

Just so we're clear, I have nothing to do with the company.  I would recommend going to the site to read up about it to get the nitty gritty, but I've been able to stockpile on Hygiene items, to the point that I can send an extra package every month. And then there's the Packaged Snack Items.  I NEVER pay more than $1 for a box of cereal (The Troops have actually told me that even without milk, it's a decent, crunchable snack.  It seems they really like Lucky Charms ;)

Anyway, I know it always helps to save a dime here and there, so I thought I'd pass on the info.

Because we sure do LOVE supporting our Troops!

WHOA! Thanks for the tip - I need ideas on how to save money quickly without wrapping up a lot of time into it.  Sounds like this could be the ticket!

Set me straight on this.  I quickly peeked at this a couple of times and got the idea that it costs something to do this.  Am I wrong?

I looked at the site briefly as well and I also got the idea that there is a cost in using it.

    Gran and Alpha,

Yes, it costs $10 every other month I believe. (depends on how many stores lists you choose).

Just to give you an example of the Grocery bill (Including produce+ hygiene + detergent + meat) of my family of 4 (me, hubby, 2 boys 3+5).  We went from $795 a month down to $400.  And in that I can send one or possibly two extra care packages a month.  Just this week, I got 2 Degree Deoderants for 45 cents and an Old Spice spray thing for free.  It's all name brand.

    HTH!

My husband's niece does this down in Texas.  Do you have to have double coupons for it to be effective?  We used to have several grocery stores here that doubled coupons, but none of them have in years.  Sad  At least it was a big help when my kids were small.  Without doubling many coupons aren't very helpful, but I'm glad to save every cent I can.

I just discovered this site and have to agree it's a good way to fund my care package habit.  I organized all my coupons and went to two (close together) stores.  By finding the best deals combined with the best coupons I saved $50 on $90 worth of stuff.  Like the previous posters, I have no affilation with the site, I'm just adding info in case you were skeptical.

My humble opinion: The cost effectiveness of this may depend on where you live.  The more stores you have to choose from the better deals that you can get. The more store lists you subscribe to, the more the Grocery Game will charge you.  I found the Grocery Game hard to keep up.  Since I was already using coupons and matching my coupons to the stores' weekly sale flyers, I decided to go this way instead of staying with the Grocery Game since the Grocery Game has membership fees.

I have dedicated Coupon Queen friends that swear by the Grocery Game.  It is like anything, you have to analyze it and see if you find any benefits from it.

I just posted a message about this elsewhere. I do this and love it. You don't have to have double coupons for it to work. It was worth it to me just to learn to shop at CVS. Even if you don't buy the lists, the forum is free. I get lots of good sale tips from it and the ladies are great help if you're looking for something specific. Everyone shares sales they've run across.

I don't have some of my really good receipts handy, but here's an idea of how I've done at CVS.

    One CVS purchase:

3 bags of combos (not the single serve, the next size up)

    1 Tube of Colgate

    3 bags Hersheys kisses

    2 crest mouth washes

    1 candy bar.

    I paid $.23 cents and saved $26.37

If I had not shopped at CVS before, I would have paid about $15 by using a cvs card and coupons. Because I've shopped there before, I had enough in store coupons to pay for almost all of it. In fact, I had to add the candy bar to be over my coupon amount.

Even if this was my first shop, I would have paid $15. But because of the CVS card, attached to my receipt for this purchase would have been a store coupon for $9.97 to spend on my next shop. Ou can use the CVS bucks on anything but prescriptions. Some of you probably have a CVS card and never realized they were giving you coupons back.

Granted, the first time I paid

Re: Grocery Game to help fund Care Packages

I had so much fun buying granola bars this weekend.  One navy group is getting a large flat rate box STUFFED with the things.

The web site pointed out that the bars were on sale via the store club card. If you spend $15 total, you get another $3 via a store special. Next, I learned that they take other store coupons from the web site. The other store had $4 off 4.  Then, the Grocery Game web site coupon list had another coupon for .80 off two.   I had two city newpapers that had the appropriate coupons.  Anyway, thru a bit of research and a bit of luck I ended up with two paper bags full of good brand name bars that averaged out to just over $1 each.

Another tip: apparently and Quaker granol-bar-type product coupon can be used with any Quaker granola-bar-type product.  At least at my store it worked.

Probably, I could've figured all of this out myself, but the web site aggregates all of the info so you don't have to search so much.
