    first timer!

hello!its my first time sending and im not really sure on a couple of things.

Im planning on sending a package from ireland.Ive gotton the address but there is no country on it?I read up abit more on shipping from outside of the US and was wondering do the packages have to be sent to the US and then they are shipped from there? So do I just have to add USA at the end of the address and pay the shipping for sending it to the states?

And will my post office supply me with the customs forms?

    thanks alot everyone!

(oh and i think this should be in the shipping outside USPS section, but i couldnt get into that for some reason..sorry!)

    Re: first timer!

    Hi Karlireland,

Welcome!!!  I'm thrilled to see another person here.  Ireland is a beautiful country and I'm happy to see it represented here.

I'm not sure if you have to write USA as the country or not, but you may need to.  Simply write the address on the letter/package exactly as you received it from AS.  Regarding what country to write in, ask your postal clerk.  I'm   sure he/she will be more than happy to assist you.  APO AE addresses are in the United States and that's how the military gets them and ships them forward to the soldier(s).

You will need a customs form and I'm fairly certain your local post office will supply them to you as our post offices here in the States do.

Again, welcome!  Happy mailing.  By the way, if you'd like to increase your chance of hearing from your soldier, you may want to include a self-addressed, stamped postcard.  They get "free mail" when they mail something to someone here in the States, but I'm sure not how Ireland's post office works that out.  It also helps if you put your email address on your letter so if the soldier has internet access, they may drop you a note that way.  Good luck!

     Big Hug

My question is .. do we include a self addressed "stamped" envelope to the soldiers? Does it have to be stamped for US?

    I found my answer..

    Want a Reply?

Want to know someone got your letter or package? Know this: There is NO guarantee a Soldier can or will reply to you, no matter what you send. The Soldiers are under no obligation to reply. We can't burden Soldiers who don't get enough sleep, don't eat enough, live out in the open, or whatever, to do anything not related to their job. Sure can't have their leadership tell them to reply either. If you get a reply, it is voluntary by that Soldier and you got lucky. However, if you want to really increase your chances of getting a reply, simply pre-address an envelope to yourself (or postcard), a few pieces of paper, and maybe a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the Soldier which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send. Better chance you get a reply with that...

Hiya fellow Okie - Nitty Gritty

Yes you are correct there is no need for s stamp ..... all active military overseas get 'Free mail' and trust me there is nothing like getting free mail.  I received my last one about a week ago & the best part was I got two in one day!!

Have fun, there isn't anything like putting a smile on some1s face & making them feel loved.

My soldier & best bud is Spc Joni Walker, a nickname I gave her is RocketDog. I gave that to her probably last year all over some shoes she bought, another story.... anyway it stuck.  And then she started calling me UnderDawg, cuz I kept tellin her to 'never fear' that I am here for her.  And I have been here for her - before her deployment, during her training, & now that she is in Baghdad.

Hi.  Just wanted to know if you "got in".  there seems to be a 2 month filter by default, which is why I did not see some of the posts people were talking about even though i thought I read everything.  So if nothing has been posted on that spot for the last 2 months, you will get a red X that says either nothing is showing or you are filtered out.  just click on your options and say show all.  Maybe some of those that have been around a while can let newcomers know that we don't see all the posts if we are on default.
